It's incredible how clean those double stops at the beginning of the solo violin part are!! Every time I listen to this recording I discover more an more amazing technical things about this violinist. Great tone, perfect intonation, precise tempos, beautiful musicality, etc. Definitely he has to be consider one of the great violinist of the 21st century, if not the greatest. At least he's for me :)
non scherziamo proprioa paragonare oistrakh e i violinisti di ora, kavakos è un grande ma oistrahk.heifetz, kogan erano il violino il fascino di quei violinisti è morto, scordatevelo
I'm pretty positive that this piece represents neither technical nor musical difficulty to Mr. Kavakos. His technique is just superior to any living violinist.
@GKJusticar55 There is a common saying among violinist about Brahms' violin concerto: "you can tell how good the soloist is just by listening to the very first 12 measures of the violin solo part!" And in my opinion, these are the cleanest, more precise, more dramatic, more beautiful in tone, and perfectly tuned first 12 measures of the violin solo part I've ever heard in my life.
There is no strict definition of what is 'right thing' - even for the case of intonation, not to say about sound and other things. At list, that opinion is expressed in PhD dissertation of Yuri Yankelevich - teacher of Viktor Tretyakov, Vladimir Spivakov and other famous violinists. His Brahms to my opinon is not reaching the level of understanding and of expression as that by Oistrakh.
"His interpretation and sound rival Oistrakh's..."
As much as his wrong (technically) right hand allows him.
Anyway, I agree, that Kavakos is excellent violinist, with excellent sound. But he is a bit too free in his interpretations to my opinion. E.g., I don't like the way he plays at 5:40 . Probably, I am mistaken.
He's not wrong technically with his right hand. His right hand just looks different because he's left-handed, and it should be kind of difficult for him to use the bow with the this arm. But watch out! Kavakos is more correct technically than Oistrakh and Heifetz. He's almost flawless. And when I say technically more correct I mean to play the right thing at the right moment with the right tempo, rhythm, and intonation, regardless style.
Short biography: Antonio Stradivari was born in Washington in 1973. He made his first violin in 1980 at the age of 7, under the supervision of his cousin, Guarnieri. His violins are now sold all around the world and you can find many on ebay.
so funny. U have been VERY helpful...I guess I cannot find a good violin like this on Ebay ever ! If you happen to find one, let me know and I will buy it from you ! hahaha :)
I can identify it by sight here: it's a G.B. Guadagnini. I can't tell the period without seeing the f-holes straight-on. Guadagnini had 5 periods based upon the cities where he lived, his Cremonese being the shortest period. I don't see ovals in the bottoms of the f-holes, so if I had to make a conjecture, I'd say Turin, after 1780, but this is going out on a limb. My favorites are the early Guadagnini violins from Milan.
@BestAmateurViolinist don't pretend the expert because there maybe someone that knows! This is the Falmouth 1691 Strad. Kavakos perchased for first time the "Turin Guadagnini 1780" in 2008 and performed with it for first time in Rheingau, Budapest.
Watch Kavakos playing Dvorak, this one is the Guadagnini

Kavakos is amazing, but he isn't an Oistrakh (David) and his technique is definitely not Heifetz's, in my opinion.

yes, it's a lot better...

At least, 1-st part. 3-d part is probably at the level of Oistrakh
