We catch them all on shad caught in the lake with a throw net. They can be dead or alive, I've never noticed it mattering much. If you use them dead, give them a squeeze to get some of their blood and guts oozing out. Change the bait fairly often, as the goodies wash off and then the bait doesn't have it's scent anymore.
You could use light line, but the lengthy time needed to "play them out" ends up killing them, as they expend all their energy during the fight.. We like to catch and release so that other people can enjoy the fight. And yes, it's a blast.
@pshm187 All depends on what size range you have 3-4 inch silver spoons,3-6 in curly tail grubs white, charteuse, and pumpkinseed are good colors.Rattle traps shad, firetiger, and bluegill color.Swimming minnow jigs firetiger, smelt, sassy shad, and bluegill color.Berkly Gulp 4 inch swimming minnows and drop shot shad are the best articial baits rig with a 1/8 ounce jighead, size 0 weedless wormhook rig, or a 2/0 round shank hook and hook it through the eye area those are all good baits.
my 2 years of fishing for wiper i have cought like 12, my first was 8 pounds and like 3 weeks ago i cought a 13 pound on medium hevy rod and a 7 pound on ultra light its was soooo fun. All at Truman lake, below the dam. And yesterday went to Parry lake and cought 23 white bass
Nice catches! The only thing that worries me about hybrids is that one day, the pure white bass and the pure stripers may become obsolete. Heard that hybrids are sterile, but research found recently that the males are somewhat fertile. Just worried that the pure striper population may become tainted because I love fishing for pure stripers. Nice vid though.
I've heard of "Wipers" once before, but never seen them until now, brother-in-law lives in Colorado and he says they are D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!!!!!!!! Great catch guys!
GOOD JOB DAD! THOSE GIRLS WILL REMEMBER THAT DAY FOREVER!!!

Great video. My favorite thing to use is a Mimmic Minnow, but it seems like shad work great too!
