Great video by the way! Thanks! I'm building my computer in about two weeks (put the order tonight) and it will be my first Core i7 system (a 920 like you). If I had not seen your video, maybe I'd have been afraid I'm doing wrong or that I'd break something. Now I know what to expect hehe ;-)
Hello dude, great vid, i was wondering if i can buy an CPU Intel Core i7-920 2.66 Ghz , and if i could install it by myself. I'm not very much pleased with my game performances on my current computer. Here are my specs :
Windows 7
Intel Core 2 duo 2.13ghz ( 6400)
4GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX,512 MB
800 gb hard disk
So i am wondering if i could buy a new processor and do everything by myself. Please Help me! Thank you!
Good time to buy a i7-920 2.66GHz. Micro Center have retail versions for $199.99 (normally $350). If there isn't a store near you, you could try emailing newegg to see if they'll price match. I'm just now doing my first build with one.
@marinho94 You cannot, the Core 2 Duo is a LGA775 cpu, the i7 isn't available in LGA775. Go ahead, upgrade to a new mobo, or get a core 2 extreme and MOST IMPORTANT, a better video card. Like a GTX 280, or HD 5850, or something like that.
if you do that, you would have to upgraed your firmware and drivers for your cpu. But thats if your motherboard accepts i7 core processor. if not, then get a new motherboard that supports it
Thanks for the video. Just installed my i7 and this is the only video i found giving me comfort on the amount of force required to put down the latch. This was my first ground up build and i was definitely sweating when i finished with this sucker (and I thought changing guitar strings made me nervous, lol)
very interesting...Gigabyte GA EX58 or the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2? How did this motherboard work out for you? Cant make my mind up which to get? I've always used ASUS motherboards in the past.
This video helped me on my build. I was concerned with the amount of force needed to latch the CPU in there. I didn't wanna break anything, and this video kinda eased me nervousness. THANKS BRO!
Thanks a million for this video. I was worried shitless for about 20 minutes because the socket would not go down far enough to go under the latch. I now realize that it's normal. Thanks a TON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@hambo221 not sure how he feels about it but i can say this board is very simple to oc got a i7920 to 4200mhz with no volt increase bit will be very good for gameing just watch the northbridge temps it gets roasty ass hot also your wasteing a lot of performance by only useing 4gig of ddr3 its a triple chanel board
Does the Core i7 920 fits with my ASUS motherboard? because this motherboard I have can run with Sockets AM2+ and AM3. and its compatible processors is Athlon 64, Phenom II X3, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon X2, Phenom II X4.
Yeah I know. I just asked for being sure. But some ASUS motherboards like the Asus P6T WS PRO, X58 motherboard can run Ci7 and Ci7 Extreme. So ASUS also makes motherboards for that.
ok i just bought my computer... i heard something about static frying your CPU... i dont want to get the anti static wrist thingy.. is there anything else i can do to prevent the static frying my cpu
Chances of frying a component due to static electricity is extremely rare. Just make sure that you're on a non-conductive surface...i.e. concrete or tile floors. And a little ritual I do before each time is to touch the PSU with all of my fingers. I read somewhere that will safely discharge all the static from your body.
hi pal, thanks for the upload, helped me alot. quick question, do yo think i could get away with using the supplied cooler? i have the ud3r mb and the core i7 920, 3gb ram, antec 900 case. i was thinking about gettin the titan fenrir but id rather save smemoney now. thank you :)
You might just have a hot chip. Mine's kind of like that too. I can't really overclock it too extreme, but I can get a little OC from it. My advice is to just leave it at stock settings and be happy with it
tx for the vid, just installed my i7 920 on my asus rampage 2 extreme. This was my first build and I was seriously doubting that I got the CPU to fit in the right way. I was expecting some kind of click like when you click in ram or the GPU.
Im about to buy this motherboard but Ive noticed those battey like things that stick up from the motherboard, will that be a problem if you will use a graphic card like ati 5850?
That battery is called the CMOS battery and its basic duty is to supply a very small of electricity to the motherboard to hold all the BIOS settings. It is so small and thin that it doesn't preclude you from putting a videocard in. The HD5850 will fit just fine. Good luck!
I have a qeustion i'm going to buy this board. I already bought Xigmateks Dark Knight CPU Cooler, will i get problems? Does it fit on it, I often read that this board has trouble with big heatsinks. Maybe you can help. (sorry my english sucks today)
The Dark Knight fits perfectly on this board. I'm not sure if its in this video that I show the clearance, but the cooler doesn't have any issues fitting on this board. Works awesome too!
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. If you have the perfect lighting, like I did in this situation, it's not all that bad. But in low-lighting, it's pretty bad.
The stock heatsink fan that comes with the CPU does. It's pre-applied to the bottom of the cooler, but unless you're leaving your CPU at stock speeds, it's high advised to get an after market HSF, which most come with thermal paste.
Yeah, I'm use to the zero insertion force pin CPU's and when I was installing this I was so scared that I was doing it wrong, because of the amount of pressure it took to latch it down. Plus the CPU kinda makes this squishing sound, that sounds like the damn thing is going to snap in half. Defiantly a lot more nerve racking than it needed to be. Of course the instructions included with the i7 blow, and give no guide at all.
dude, thnx for ur vid, i was really worried , u need so much force to install the cpu, it really felt like i was going to break the bord ,gosh , ,tnx man, its 200 pound cou, u dont want to break it or bend the pins
Thanks for the vid, it was helpful. I 'm putting together my core i7 system now. I thought I was doing something wrong installing the CPU in the socket on my EVGA X58 board, I was afraid to use to much pressure but I guess you have to on the LGA 1366. I got it in ok after seeing how much force you had to use. Just a little tip but it helped out.
Supposedly now the GA-EX58-UD3R, with a BIOS update, will support both Crossfire and SLI. I know that it supports Crossfire natively, but with a BIOS update you can use SLI.
I just did an installation of the same processor and same mobo...Everyone kept mentioning a triangle on the mobo which I did not find but you made everything clear. Thank you for the upload. This was very helpful! 5*
Yep, that's the GA-EX58-UD3R. It's one of the cheapest X58 boards, but it works great for me. I haven't a single problem with it, and it's been overclocked to 3.5GHz for about a month now. Works perfect, I'd highly recommend it.
They work pretty well actually. I've used isopropyl alcohol before to remove AS5 and I think it did a horrible job. The remover is definitely good stuff, but I'll agree with you on the purifier. That was just scented water.
Hi Wixdfast2, isopropanol (aka IPA) and acetone (some removers have) are both great cleaners and fully vaporize so you don't have to clean with water afterwards. IPA is great at removing inorganic materials such as graphite markings or salt residue, while acetone is best for removing organic stuff like finger grease or permanent pen. Acetone does not attack glass or most (if not all) metals but can attack some particular plastics (I'd not dare trying on my LCD hehe ;-) Just a thought

sysel777 2 years ago
What are your temperatures at stock settings? I'd revert back to all the default. It should lower your temperatures quite a bit.
Wixdfast2 2 years ago
idle temp:
42°C each core
load temp:
67-63°C
But you are american, and you dont use °C, but F (I think).
42°C- 107,6F
67°C- 152,6F
sysel777 2 years ago
Is that at 3.0GHz? That's pretty average. I mean, you could get them a little lower, but that's around the ranged where I'm at.
Wixdfast2 2 years ago
No, it at 2,66ghz.
if I oveclock it at 3,0Ghz, I will reach 80°C
sysel777 2 years ago
And I dont want the temperatures more that 80°C, thats why I do OC at 2,8Ghz (77°C).
sysel777 2 years ago
You might just have a hot chip. Mine's kind of like that too. I can't really overclock it too extreme, but I can get a little OC from it. My advice is to just leave it at stock settings and be happy with it
Wixdfast2 2 years ago
I am gonna buy Asus Rampage II Extreme and Noctua NH-12P cpu cooler.
I hope it will help to ovecrlock my CPU at least at 3,6Ghz.
But I'm afraid that the problem is not in MB or cooler, but in procesor. What do you thing ?
sysel777 2 years ago
I have this motherboard with intel i7 920.
The cooler is Scythe Mugen 2, but when I overclock my CPU (3,00Ghz) core temperatures are 82. Is it ok ?

Supposedly now the GA-EX58-UD3R, with a BIOS update, will support both Crossfire and SLI. I know that it supports Crossfire natively, but with a BIOS update you can use SLI.

I just did an installation of the same processor and same mobo...Everyone kept mentioning a triangle on the mobo which I did not find but you made everything clear. Thank you for the upload. This was very helpful! 5*

you should make a detailed overclocking video, that would be helpful, because i cant find any decent OC vids.

Thanks for the video, helped me from a bit of panic I had when buidling my own new machine - seriously, thanks. :D

By the way what pin were you talking about? Were you talking about those little black pins on the motherboard?

is that GIGABYTE GA-EX58?
If so, awesome, cas I was thinking buying the same thing and install i7 on it.
How has it been turning out for u?
