  • Two pops and cpu is dead :P

  • hey man

I was getting so much resistance with the anchor and got very scared.

    thanks for the help :)))

    8===D

  • Holy shit when I first saw this I thought it was a video of me, you sound JUST like me, haha

  • ASHAKASHAKASHAKA

  • hey could you give me a rating on my pc or what games it could handle, iv just ordered some components to build it up i got

    sabertooth x58 motherboard

    i7 920 @ 2.6 ghz

    Titan TTC-NK85TZ cooler

MSI GTX 460 Cyclone Overclocked 1GB

    850w psu

    windows vista 64bit OEM

    4 GB Zeppelin ram

    thanks

  • Thanks for this video, it put my mind at rest. I just installed an i7 950 and the latch was pretty tough, I felt very uncomfortable pulling it down.

  • Can I ask you something mate? I got the same mobo and it had 5 bent pins on the cpu socket. I installed the cpu anyway and booted a few times but nothing shwed up on screen. i returned the mobo and will hopefully get a replacement. do you think the cpu was damaged?

  • waste of money

  • i put a 930 into the same mobo last night and i was s***ing it while putting pressure on the cpu arm :) the fact that im getting no display on my monitor had me wondering if i had f***ed it up, also the cooler is a pain to put on if you have never done it before took me forever

  • AMD advert in corner, faaack offf lol

  • hmmm iver read that u have to be super careful with installing the chip since the pins bend super easy. so i was a lil surprised to see u doing one handed kinda drop it in and kinda jiggle the processor while on the mobo (thats the part that made me go WTF is he doing? lol) cause i read its the last thing u want to do

  • @323chicano newer models dont have pins do they?

might be wrong but i think intel switched over a while back

  • what happens if you dont apply the thermal paste?

  • 1:03

    OMG OMG OMG OMG!

  • Nice, i7 920 stock cooler + Asus P6T SE + 3x2gb 1600mhz CL8 DDR3 mushkin ram for 500euros, good deal? I`ll get some good cooler when i get mone, as GPU i got XFX HD 5770 OC`d: 875/1400 from 850/1200

  • 5:30 that's what she said.

  • is that an x58a ud3r

  • @asus3571 Yep

  • @Wixdfast2 itswhat i thought i just did a build with one i7920 h50 got it to 4200mhz the first day no voltage icreases i tuched that northbridge it was so fuckin hot but its a very nice board i feel the one of the best boards u can get for the money just needs better cooling on the northbridge githe thing i like the most is the backup bios gigabyte is the only board manufacturer that has been able to perfect it

  • @asus3571 yes its =) i got that board too

  • I have a question Wix ,, Can I upgrade my Pentium 4 to Intel i7 ??

  • @astoniz no.

  • I just installed mine but, missing parts for my computer and waiting for them to be delivered, I can't test it. It's always the part that freaks me out. I'm always scared I'm screwing it up and completely destroying that little thing...

  • HEY WAIT, i'm getting like, this exact mobo, except the one with USB 3.0 and Sata 3

  • shiny mobo lol

    i'm getting one very similar

  • Great video by the way! Thanks! I'm building my computer in about two weeks (put the order tonight) and it will be my first Core i7 system (a 920 like you). If I had not seen your video, maybe I'd have been afraid I'm doing wrong or that I'd break something. Now I know what to expect hehe ;-)

    Cheers,

    Zyxy

  • Hello dude, great vid, i was wondering if i can buy an CPU Intel Core i7-920 2.66 Ghz , and if i could install it by myself. I'm not very much pleased with my game performances on my current computer. Here are my specs :

    Windows 7

    Intel Core 2 duo 2.13ghz ( 6400)

    4GB ram

    Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX,512 MB

    800 gb hard disk

So i am wondering if i could buy a new processor and do everything by myself. Please Help me! Thank you!

  • Good time to buy a i7-920 2.66GHz. Micro Center have retail versions for $199.99 (normally $350). If there isn't a store near you, you could try emailing newegg to see if they'll price match. I'm just now doing my first build with one.

  • @marinho94 You cannot, the Core 2 Duo is a LGA775 cpu, the i7 isn't available in LGA775. Go ahead, upgrade to a new mobo, or get a core 2 extreme and MOST IMPORTANT, a better video card. Like a GTX 280, or HD 5850, or something like that.

  • @marinho94 You would definitely need to get a new motherboard. You need the 1366 socket type.

  • if you do that, you would have to upgraed your firmware and drivers for your cpu. But thats if your motherboard accepts i7 core processor. if not, then get a new motherboard that supports it

  • Thanks for the video. Just installed my i7 and this is the only video i found giving me comfort on the amount of force required to put down the latch. This was my first ground up build and i was definitely sweating when i finished with this sucker (and I thought changing guitar strings made me nervous, lol)

  • @hcjarrodp i felt the same way with my first build no that youve felt the fear your next build will be much easier

  • gulftown bios update for this board!

  • Hey, I was happy enough when they enabled sli XD

  • very nice! although you should had someone film this for you while you did the instalation

  • I have the same board and it was REALLY difficult to push down. Thought I was going to break the board

  • AND THE COOLER? XD

  • you gotta tell me, how u put your iphone on the side? i cant do it...

  • so hard to put that hook down..:S

  • @HenryGAD are you smokin something? those hooks are piece of cake

  • on 1366 platform mobos are definitely hard to push it down

  • uh no they not... i installed my uncles i7 920 on an asus P4TD... piece of cake

  • very interesting...Gigabyte GA EX58 or the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2? How did this motherboard work out for you? Cant make my mind up which to get? I've always used ASUS motherboards in the past.

  • Just ordered: * 391447 - Intel Core™ i7 920 Quad Processor 8MB, Boxed * 428330 - Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R, X58, Socket-1366, CrossFireX, DDR3, ATX, GbLAN, Firewire, 2xPCI-Ex(2.0)x1

    * 492633 - Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz 6GB CL9 Kit w/3x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, for Core i7

    * 303162 - Antistatic Armchain 180cm

  • from komplett? ;)

  • haha, yes^^

  • i'm going to get that soon too. you should post a video where you unbox it and install it. ;) i'd definitely rate 5 stars for that. :P

  • This video helped me on my build. I was concerned with the amount of force needed to latch the CPU in there. I didn't wanna break anything, and this video kinda eased me nervousness. THANKS BRO!

  • i have a cable

  • Thanks a million for this video. I was worried shitless for about 20 minutes because the socket would not go down far enough to go under the latch. I now realize that it's normal. Thanks a TON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice vid mate, wanna get this mobo, with ati radeon 5850 / core i7 920 and 4 gb of ddr3 .

would ya recomned this board for gaming, and like heat wise, and overcloking capabillitys??

    have a good one champp;)

  • It's a great board, affordable board. You should be able to get up to about 3.5GHz or so, if you have a good HSF.

  • @hambo221 not sure how he feels about it but i can say this board is very simple to oc got a i7920 to 4200mhz with no volt increase bit will be very good for gameing just watch the northbridge temps it gets roasty ass hot also your wasteing a lot of performance by only useing 4gig of ddr3 its a triple chanel board

  • Does the Core i7 920 fits with my ASUS motherboard? because this motherboard I have can run with Sockets AM2+ and AM3. and its compatible processors is Athlon 64, Phenom II X3, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon X2, Phenom II X4.

    And it´s all from AMD

  • No, you'd need to buy an i7 compatible motherboard.

  • Okay. thanks. :).

  • no offense but thats just f***ing retarded, that is AMD AM3 motherboard not Intel LGA1366

  • Yeah I know. I just asked for being sure. But some ASUS motherboards like the Asus P6T WS PRO, X58 motherboard can run Ci7 and Ci7 Extreme. So ASUS also makes motherboards for that.

  • @firesanker haha thats a amd board each board only takes one brand of processors.

  • @firesanker hahaha u need and intel board for sure !

  • @NINFRK Yeah I know now. And I installed the new AMD T1090 with 3,2GHz

  • ok i just bought my computer... i heard something about static frying your CPU... i dont want to get the anti static wrist thingy.. is there anything else i can do to prevent the static frying my cpu

  • Chances of frying a component due to static electricity is extremely rare. Just make sure that you're on a non-conductive surface...i.e. concrete or tile floors. And a little ritual I do before each time is to touch the PSU with all of my fingers. I read somewhere that will safely discharge all the static from your body.

  • o,o thats cheap

  • Woot Core i7 FTW :D im buying a computer in the next year but ill prob just stick with a core 2 quad or somthin i dont got a 1000$ for just a CPU

  • They're only $200 at Microcenter

  • love the blue heatsinks on that gigabyte board what model is that?

  • It's the GA-EX58-UD3R. I'll try to get an HD pic up of the southbridge. It really is sexy

  • hi pal, thanks for the upload, helped me alot. quick question, do yo think i could get away with using the supplied cooler? i have the ud3r mb and the core i7 920, 3gb ram, antec 900 case. i was thinking about gettin the titan fenrir but id rather save smemoney now. thank you :)

  • If you're going to be overclocking, I'd suggest getting an aftermarket cooler. Otherwise, just stick with the stock. It'll do the job just fine.

  • get the Corsair H50 :-)

  • It doesnt help.

But I think, that my motherboard is not good for OC, because Its one of the most cheapest MB for 1136 socket.

  • Which motherboard do you have? What are you using to test and monitor it with? What is your overclocking method?

  • My motherboard is gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R, and to test I am using OCCT.

I dont have any OC method, I only use "Easy Tune 6" utility.

  • What are your temperatures at stock settings? I'd revert back to all the default. It should lower your temperatures quite a bit.

  • idle temp:

    42°C each core

    load temp:

    67-63°C

But you are american, and you dont use °C, but F (I think).

    42°C- 107,6F

    67°C- 152,6F

  • Is that at 3.0GHz? That's pretty average. I mean, you could get them a little lower, but that's around the ranged where I'm at.

  • No, it at 2,66ghz.

if I oveclock it at 3,0Ghz, I will reach 80°C

  • And I dont want the temperatures more that 80°C, thats why I do OC at 2,8Ghz (77°C).

  • You might just have a hot chip. Mine's kind of like that too. I can't really overclock it too extreme, but I can get a little OC from it. My advice is to just leave it at stock settings and be happy with it

  • I am gonna buy Asus Rampage II Extreme and Noctua NH-12P cpu cooler.

I hope it will help to ovecrlock my CPU at least at 3,6Ghz.

But I'm afraid that the problem is not in MB or cooler, but in procesor. What do you thing ?

  • I have this motherboard with intel i7 920.

The cooler is Scythe Mugen 2, but when I overclock my CPU (3,00Ghz) core temperatures are 82. Is it ok ?

  • That's a little too high. I'd reapply the thermal paste.

  • thx for the vid dude, helps :D

  • all that processing power in such a tiny object!

i could eat a bowl of those for breakfast!

  • tx for the vid, just installed my i7 920 on my asus rampage 2 extreme. This was my first build and I was seriously doubting that I got the CPU to fit in the right way. I was expecting some kind of click like when you click in ram or the GPU.

    But

  • Put a cooler master V8 cooler on it and it and it will OC a i7 920 to 3.7Ghz no problem.

  • Im about to buy this motherboard but Ive noticed those battey like things that stick up from the motherboard, will that be a problem if you will use a graphic card like ati 5850?

  • That battery is called the CMOS battery and its basic duty is to supply a very small of electricity to the motherboard to hold all the BIOS settings. It is so small and thin that it doesn't preclude you from putting a videocard in. The HD5850 will fit just fine. Good luck!

  • Thank you for the post.

    Cheers

  • Hi there, cool informative video.

I have a qeustion i'm going to buy this board. I already bought Xigmateks Dark Knight CPU Cooler, will i get problems? Does it fit on it, I often read that this board has trouble with big heatsinks. Maybe you can help. (sorry my english sucks today)

  • The Dark Knight fits perfectly on this board. I'm not sure if its in this video that I show the clearance, but the cooler doesn't have any issues fitting on this board. Works awesome too!

  • THANKS ALOT. Your quick response just made my day better.

thanks again and keep those good videos coming.

  • okay i have a "I 7 920" with 2.6 GHZ is this Good?

  • Yep, it's an awesome CPU. Its the best CPU:Money right now, in my opinion.

  • I have 99% Isoprolyl Alchahol that i use to clean the impurities off my cpu and heatsink and works just fine.

  • you should be able to go a lot more

  • Did he say I-Phone!? Thats desent video for a cell phone.

  • Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. If you have the perfect lighting, like I did in this situation, it's not all that bad. But in low-lighting, it's pretty bad.

  • i got a core i7 920 lol

  • is the gigabyte mobo good for the i7?

i prefer the asus rampage 2 for gaming :P:P

  • Yeah, it's a great motherboard. I haven't had a single issue with it at all. I'm not a huge overclocker, but it handles this chip pretty well.

  • does the i7 920 come with thermalpaste?

  • The stock heatsink fan that comes with the CPU does. It's pre-applied to the bottom of the cooler, but unless you're leaving your CPU at stock speeds, it's high advised to get an after market HSF, which most come with thermal paste.

  • Yeah, I'm use to the zero insertion force pin CPU's and when I was installing this I was so scared that I was doing it wrong, because of the amount of pressure it took to latch it down. Plus the CPU kinda makes this squishing sound, that sounds like the damn thing is going to snap in half. Defiantly a lot more nerve racking than it needed to be. Of course the instructions included with the i7 blow, and give no guide at all.

  • dude, thnx for ur vid, i was really worried , u need so much force to install the cpu, it really felt like i was going to break the bord ,gosh , ,tnx man, its 200 pound cou, u dont want to break it or bend the pins

  • how can i overclock my 920 without high temp.

  • Thanks for the vid, it was helpful. I 'm putting together my core i7 system now. I thought I was doing something wrong installing the CPU in the socket on my EVGA X58 board, I was afraid to use to much pressure but I guess you have to on the LGA 1366. I got it in ok after seeing how much force you had to use. Just a little tip but it helped out.

  • hey man can you tell me if that motherboard is crossfire x or sli or both thanks man!

  • Supposedly now the GA-EX58-UD3R, with a BIOS update, will support both Crossfire and SLI. I know that it supports Crossfire natively, but with a BIOS update you can use SLI.

  • I just did an installation of the same processor and same mobo...Everyone kept mentioning a triangle on the mobo which I did not find but you made everything clear. Thank you for the upload. This was very helpful! 5*

  • you should make a detailed overclocking video, that would be helpful, because i cant find any decent OC vids.

  • Thanks for the video, helped me from a bit of panic I had when buidling my own new machine - seriously, thanks. :D

  • By the way what pin were you talking about? Were you talking about those little black pins on the motherboard?

  • My i7 comes tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the video.

  • Thank you I got a ton of resistance like you, I guess I shouldn't worry.

  • is that GIGABYTE GA-EX58?

If so, awesome, cas I was thinking buying the same thing and install i7 on it.

How has it been turning out for u?

  • Yep, that's the GA-EX58-UD3R. It's one of the cheapest X58 boards, but it works great for me. I haven't a single problem with it, and it's been overclocked to 3.5GHz for about a month now. Works perfect, I'd highly recommend it.

  • They work pretty well actually. I've used isopropyl alcohol before to remove AS5 and I think it did a horrible job. The remover is definitely good stuff, but I'll agree with you on the purifier. That was just scented water.

  • Hi Wixdfast2, isopropanol (aka IPA) and acetone (some removers have) are both great cleaners and fully vaporize so you don't have to clean with water afterwards. IPA is great at removing inorganic materials such as graphite markings or salt residue, while acetone is best for removing organic stuff like finger grease or permanent pen. Acetone does not attack glass or most (if not all) metals but can attack some particular plastics (I'd not dare trying on my LCD hehe ;-) Just a thought

  • Thx for the vid!
