G1 just had lazy/cheap animation at times.

@AeonMagnus What do you mean, doesn't split? I can see no problem with Computron as the other 4 bots were the arms and legs. Scattershot was the big head/torso.

This is in my opinion one of the saddest moments in all of Generation 1. Grimlock's increased intelligence made the other Autobots respect him more, but in the end he willingly gave it up to save the day. I cried a little the first time I saw this (I also cried when Optimus Prime died in the movie).

I always hated this episode. I never understood why grimlock didn't transform while smart. Heck the dinobots rarely transformed after the movie. They were action masters stuck in dino mode.

Yes, because the animators were appalingly lazy. I would have fired most of them and gotten a new, more dedicated team.

@DaleHusband The animators only put in what they're told to put in. It's like blaming the factory workers because the trunk of your car is too small; it's their fault if they construct it wrong or they let it roll off the line without the proper QC checks, but they don't decide what type of suspension to use, how big to make the doors, etc.

The Dinobots would have transformed if it had been incorporated into the scripts or the storyboards.
