So yes it is a definite disadvantage. I'm sure there is a work around... but I don't think it's fair to force someone to find a device to unlock their vehicle's potential.

You buy a Mustang GT, you have a limiter. Think of the XO-1 as a 427r. It's already modified, ready to run. But now you're making it a GT by putting a limiter on there. You paid 15K+ more for a limited car that supposed to decimate.... Does that make sense? You might as well have bought a GT and modified.

That makes as much sense as needing to buy a coffee maker to turn on your car. Yeah the display is cool, yeah it's an awesome idea. But I should be able to drive my RC car the FULL 100MPH out of the box without an iPiddle. We've come full circle. It's not necessary and it's forced consumerism. Traxxas had the best intentions to go with a idevice simply BC of compatibility. There are soo many android phones out there that a apparently will.work on one but not another. With a idevice you do not have a compatibility issue. Plus for safety you do not anything malfunctioning. Traxxas was pushing the envelope by bringing in concept a fly by wire. You can change the setup on the esc and servo on the fly even while driving plus true telemetry.

I will never buy one of these because of the fact that they require an apple device to unlock it. I have a strong aversion to anything apple. If they added android support I would consider it. Another gripe is they advertise "100mph out of the box" When its clearly not. It requires gearing up and unlocking. They can't even say that everything required to get it up to 100mph is in the box because it doesn't come with an ipod or iphone...

If Anacondas can put up w/ a JATO or VXL/BL models, they're just x-trainers for the XO-1.

If you are running around a race track where you are unlikely to get past 65-70mph, you don't need "belted" land speed tires. My Interest in the XO-1 is not land speed records, but to buy an RC that will let me change out my old RC apparatus, since it literally comes with everything I would need but a new charger.

This car runs great out of the box, but with the I'pod gear upgrade it performs even better. Just like every RTR or even KIT car. My cars perfomed exactly as they were advertised out of the box ready to run. I didn't have to buy a fucking iPhone for my HPI Savage flux to run 60 MPH. It did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do with no need for extra $200 MP3 player to unlock it. That's my point. You shouldn't need to buy extra to do what it's advertised to do out of the box.
