Inflation is the increase of the money supply. Price increase is a SYMPTOM of inflation. By the way, if the money supply is constant, then if people are bidding up one resource (such as a pair of glasses), then other resources will be cheaper because they have less money to purchase other things.

Either Paul Martin is an ignorant or an hypocrite. Since he has been running many business offshore to avoid taxes and became Prime Minister of Canada, I will assume he knows what inflation is.

Inflation is not an increase in the money supply...if output expands and you dont expand money supply you get deflation. Inflation is a rise in the price level, usually due to an increase in the money supply, nevertheless, not that in itself.

@zzzak123 You are incorrect. The DEFINITION of inflation has been the increase of the money supply (inflate = "pumping" money). The politicians and bureaucrats have hijacked this word to hide their actions. If you look at older dictionaries, such as in the 70s, you will see that inflation is indeed an increase of the money supply.

If inflation is a rise of price level, then what is the action of increasing the money supply? By the way, a price decline is a good thing. (watch?v=PTUY16CkS-k)
