I'm gonna get bashed for this.

John is amazing. However this was one of the few times he actually played the full solo. Usually he just bend the strings into some squeaky mess, covered up with some wah, wah pedals on lives... 'Tis truly horrible considering the fact that he's written some of the most epic solos ever.

no i think it's a dominant 7 chord. it's the dominant chord, that builds up a tension.

if the song is in A, then the chord would be an e (major) dominant seven.
