@selimaazouri What Old School said is true. Lawler and Dundee's relationship in the locker room is similar to what you saw in the ring. The fought like brothers and got along well when called for it. A lot of guys, especially those used to one another in the ring, would take liberties with each other in an attempt to make it even more realistic. Thus what looks like a stiff punch or a hard slam probably is a real punch or a full force body slam.
If you're in the Nashville area, be sure to tune into 104.5 The Zone's Inside Pro Wrestling with Jerry Jarrett this Saturday, June 5. Jimmy Hart will be our guest, and we'll recount the Memphis days. Visit our Facebook page, Inside Pro Wrestling.
@OaktownABQ I had it explained to me like this: there was a snowstorm in Memphis that week and it prevented Jerry Jarrett, Eddie Marlin, and Guy Coffee (the chain of command) from being at the show, and therefore Jarrett phoned Russell and put him in charge giving him full authority.
I always thought it was Lance basically saying "if he doesn't go then I'll go" and that would effectively have been it for Jimmy Hart. However, the new idea makes a lot more sense in storyline terms.
Seriously this was a job. Hart had graduated to the WWF. He wanted his departure from Memphis to be a memorable one. Lancer was always a consumate pro and went along with this.
@stubby84 Lance had pull (in storyline and in real life.) The idea was that Lance wasn't officially suspending him, but was letting him know that it was him or Hart, and that Eddie Marlin or Jerry Jarrett would choose Lance over Jimmy.
I thought I remembered Jerry Lawler fighting Rick Rude and the loser had to leave Memphis and Lawler won. I remember the rumors that it was set up because Hart was moving to bigger and better things with the WWF. Anyone remember that match?
In 2001, when they had the TV shoe "Opening the Vault: Memphis Classic Wrestling", which took a look at the history of Memphis Wrestling, Lance Russell, who made a guest appearance on one episode, managed to get revenge on Jimmy Hart for the flour incident by doing the same to Hart. Livid, Hart swore to get even on Jerry Lawler, Corey Maclin (sic), Lance, and Dave Brown for that (it was before the Clash at the Legends 2001 event, I believe, where Lawler fought a Hart-managed Lord Humongous).

Yes, Memphis wasn't the same, but he went to bigger and better things for the next 16 years with WWF and WCW and everyone should be proud with him.
