  • @mintedlama agreed,.fair enough, however, this isn't politics (even though there's that in everything) still, that doesn't apply here cuz this is for the love of music. Most fans are NOT on message boards or on youtube comment sections. They are quietly accepting that AIC has moved on and will NOT move on with them. There are plenty of silent fans out there who just do NOT like the new AIC and refuse to listen to the new stuff even if it comforts you to think my opinion has no merit.

  • @mintedlama The vast majority only knows of them BECAUSE they kept the AIC name, however, they will ALWAYS get hassled and compared forever. Bands that move on in a different direction, from their past, do

not have to put up with comparisions not nearly as much if at all.

And, the vast majority of people are not fine with it but QUIET about it! Like I said, you won't convince me and I won't convince you but we should both be allowed our opinions.............even if I'm right (lol)

  • @casey10bb Fair enough regarding your opinion, but you can't speak for 'quiet' people or use them to back up anything you say. Noisy negativism is always heard above the silent majority, however.

  • @casey10bb I was actually at this concert, AiC has a name, however, the recovery was with taste and gracefully done. They kept the same sound with a new singer that fits perfectly for what they write. They have the same sound that they always did, only with a new voice. Thumbs up if you agree. :-D

  • It doesn't matter who wrote what -- it's the delivery and sound of the voice that carries the song along...period. If you don't like the tone of someone's voice; no convincing is going to make you like it any better. Duvall's voice is 'ok' for some, but his tone is not as attractive as Layne's voice. And the band made their choice, they wanted to continue on as AIC so they are going to have to endure the comparisons. Sure they might of been compared anyway but this way made it worse for them

  • @casey10bb I think they would disagree that 'this way' made it worse for them. The vast majority of people are fine with it.

  • Sounds shitty compared to Layne imo.

  • i saw them here in oregon, i was in the front standing next to the stage with my freind im 14 and the singer is prety good but will never be as good as the old alice in chains.

  • all of you trying to tell yourselves this is good are clearly deaf. This should never have been done. I think most people would have been ok if they did an album of new songs, it would have sucked though, and no one would care. We all know this is fact, and time will prove it. I dont blame Jerry for trying to capture the magic that was, but he never can. thats his debt for getting Layne and getting that greatness while he was here. You have no idea what AIC was if you think this is good

  • @inspectorluv They have an album of all new songs. It has was critically acclaimed, won several awards, and so far 4 singles have been released and get quite a bit of airplay. So if you could be completely unbiased (which you can't) you would probably like the album, as most everyone else does. Where I respect your opinion and I'm sure most everyone would rather have Layne alive, you make yourself look a bit silly for not even knowing they put out a new album (that has so far went Gold).

  • @mintedllama - you are right llama, I was too focussed on the bad covers they do of the original songs in these videos. I listened to the entire album when it came out with high hopes, but found a bunch of shallow words over some decent guit. riffs. The album sold purely to people like you & me who were hoping for something great. The title track was the only song I ever listened to more than once, and I have never put the cd in again since that first day. It has no soul. it is a bad cover band.

  • @mintedllama - by the way. As a kid I saw them in Olympia in 1989 (I am pretty sure) - Gruntruck opened up for them. That was amazing. My band recorded our demos on their equipment in their studio at NAF as well -- needless to say, I was a huge fan. This new version is no different than a thousand other cover bands around the country - in fact most of them are probably better - but whats the difference - a cover band is a cover band. You are all paying to see a cover band. It wont last long.

  • @mintedllama Ok, the new vocalist is good. They've made some great new songs. That doesn't make it right.

Do you think that if Monet died 20 years before Renoir, that Renoir would have picked up Monet's canvases, painted over them with his own rendition of Monet's work, then made some really great new paintings and signed Monet's name to them?

This should be a new band in my opinion. Layne's voice was too unique and too much of a defining part of what AIC is.

  • @renfist That analogy gives no credit to Jerry who wrote 90% of everything AiC did. Let us not also forget that the band (Jerry, Mike, Sean) asked Layne to join THEIR band. As far as the naming, I really dont' get worked up about it. I don't care what they call themselves. Lots of bands have gone in different musical directions without a name change. Im sure lots of Metallica fans would like for them to start calling themselves something else.

  • I was going to go to the Vancouver show tonight, but after watching this I have decided to sell them. If this was a new band with new songs, it would be fine, but it ain't like that! AIC without Layne Staley is not AIC! Not Ever and Nowhere near! It's a cash grab and it doesn't come close to portraying the emotion of AIC pre-Layne's passing.

  • @namzop You're going. And they do have new songs. The last album has more emotion in it (without Layne) than any album with him.

  • @mintedllama Yeah, your probably not a real aic fan for saying that.

  • @bigboss25262 Im glad you're around to judge who and who isn't a fan. The emotion was always written from Jerry's pen... it was sung by Layne. Now it's sung by someone else, doesn't mean it's no longer there.

  • @namzop If you didn't go, you missed one of the best concerts in the whole BDS tour. I went to the Portland show and they absolutely killed it, and we didn't get half the setlist you guys did. I was at this show above as well ^ and it was the best concert I have ever seen. It was amazing. If you're an Alice fan at all you owe it to yourself to get out there and see these guys, if not anything to just support Jerry, Mike and Sean if you don't like Will. Will is a fantastic vocalist. My 2 cents.

  • @namzop get a grip......Staley is dead.....move on...this crew puts on a heck of a show.Check out the vid of them on jimmy Kimmel Show or It's your decision vid. You might change your mind....................

  • @namzop Check out the Would video on the Jimmy Kimmel show. If you say that's not good and tight, you are high...lol

  • @namzop I agree 100% - this is awful. Why would people out there try to convince themselves that this is good - it isnt. Seriously horrible..you can hear this for free in any bar in the country on friday night...what a joke AIC has become with this garbage. unbelievable.

  • i fucking miss Layne so much it makes me cry

  • those guards standing in front must be deaf! lol. hes really good, cant wait till i get to go see them!

  • i hate drugs....they really fuck things up....

  • This singer is really fucking good.. better than staley?

  • @mjordan1998 Nah, go watch the Love Hate Love video to remind yourself of Layne. Nobody can touch him. HOWEVER, I've seen some not-so-great live performances from Layne due to being a little messed up... at least with the current cast of characters you will always see a solid show.

  • @mintedllama you're right. I think he and staley have the same voice, but staley has an extra quality that's kind of haunting.

  • @mjordan1998 Man, you are sooo right! Staley had a great haunting quality I don't hear in Duvall. I like him, but there was only one Layne! I took notice of Alice in Chains turning stations when I heard Layne's voice - then I became a big fan!

  • @mintedllama True, Love Hate Love is one of those things imo that even if another singer can sing it technically perfect, they aren't going to get every nuance right like Layne did. He was really artistic with his tone and technique.

  • @mjordan1998 I think layne is a better singer. look up the video Would? unplugged but the new dudes pretty good to thats just my opinion

  • @mjordan1998

NO F'ING WAY. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO LAYNE. THERE IS ONLY ONE LAYNE. Duvall is good, but Layne was one of the best ever.

  • wtf?
