I agree, plus the government would have it's own oil experts and equipment, instead of having to rely on the greedy bastards that caused the problem in the first place.

BP sought profits but did not care much about making mistakes because the State was there making huge contracts with them, subsidizing them and who knows if bailing them in case of a bankruptcy like it happened with banks.

on the federal gov't, you have to understand the the Federalists which made up the majority of our founders wanted a strong NATIONAL gov't.
Who says Oil belongs to the State...Unreal....If Bush was in office you would be screaming about Government control...But now that your Socialist Hero is in office you call for absolute Government Control...
Well done Louie. It is a real effort to get these people to talk to the issue instead of supporting some sort of Ideology. They've been conditioned and brainwashed. The resources of a nation should belong to the people of the nation. The profit only argument doesn't work in areas like medical treatment, education, and even oil because cutting corners on safety and quality to increase production and profit don't achieve the proper goals.

My system is not the "right" system, it's just a system where people with their money decide what sells and what doesn't.
I'm for giving states more control over what they do. Leaving the Federal Govt aside for most of the issues. 10th amendment type of stuff.
Ron Paul is about taking away ALL subsidies, not just oil ones.
