  • This is well done but as a now adult detroiter with fond memories of chiller creature feature and Saturday night dead I keep hoping someone with old VHS or beta will be kind enough to post and share. God I miss those days of tv with Godzilla movies hammer horror etc .... Good times :-)

  • also, only way we will ever see that very early 80's intro again is if someone unearths it from some an old VHS or Beta tape.... hopefully some one has it. i liked the Close Encounters music played along to the clips.

  • Chiller Movie was the best! It was on I think 11:30 and Saturday nights. Never will I forget the use of clips from hammer studio's Dracula films to the tune of some eerie music from Close Encounters film then the film. Then on to Son of Svengoolie who would crack a few jokes and play the film. Sadly, no known clips exist. The original intro reels were eventually destroyed as WKBD does not archive stuff like that.

  • @detroitrob311 "Svengooli Intro" is on YouTube.

  • I am talking when it was syndicated to Detroit back in 1982 or 83. WKBD TV50 ran a intro spot with scenes from mostly Hammer studio films and it closed with a scene from The Fly. I think the music was from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, then Sven would come on an introduce the film.

  • Please have the original somewhere. Please have....

  • I don't remember the opening to Chiller being anything like this, except the Close Encounters sting and the scene from The Fly at the end. I distinctly remember scenes from the climax of Horror of Dracula being part of it though, with music from Close Encounters throughout.

  • @DrGlitterhouse

excuse me, I meant "Horror Of Dracula" but if you want me to be precise, it started with a wavy fade in to Christopher Lee as his Dracula character showing his fangs about to bite his victim and then the music shifts along to the climatic end of Horror Of Dracula. I have some video clips of the commercial break with a scene from The Fly and the WKBD logo. This was on Saturday nights at 11:30 starting I believe in fall of 1982.

  • Good news for those wishing to see the Thriller Double Feature intro again. If you go to my channel I got part of it that I found on a video production site. It's not the complete intro as it is a commercial more than the intro but it's the best thing we've got for right now.

  • Here's what I got: nosferatu phantom of the opera nosferatu ? (vampire chick screaming) 13 ghosts nosferatu ? 13 ghosts night of the living dead carnival of souls nosferatu the fly
  • It would be great if someone had the original Thriller, Chiller (with led zep music), and Saturday Night Dead intros and uploaded them. I would love to get them.

BTW this is great effort and next best thing to original nice job!

  • 11:30 Saturday nights- I couldnt wait

Saturdays were great; Cartoons all morning, Sir Graves Ghastley at 12 and Chiller Theatre at night

  • Does anyone out there have The Chiller Movie intro or outro from the Saturday afternoon movies of the 70's? It was the one with the Frankenstein Monster stirring a smoking cauldron with creepy music and Bill Kennedy doing the voiceover.

  • Pretty neat, although this isn't at all how the actual opening went. Most of these clips weren't really in it, nor this music.

Or were you just trying to *guesstimate* what it was like (and this isn't supposed to be a literal imitation)?

  • I'm not sure if it was WKBD TV-50 or WXON TV-20 (it was one of them), but I'm looking for the commercial (if anybody remembers this) where there was a white skull in the picture and in the background were rotating 'dancing' lights that would dance behind the skull for a couple seconds and then it would stop and go to another set of lights and dance behind the skull. The music was very errie as well. They would be a voice-over anouncing a scary movie for either Friday or Saturday night.

  • @Stratman78 I think that was SATURDAY NIGHT DEAD- on Channel 4 WDIV at 1:00am after Saturday Night Live

  • Takes me back

  • I was always partial to TV 50's later "Saturday Shocker" feature, which used the bridge from Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" as theme music.

  • the Saturday Shocker theme was the one with the scream at the end right?

  • Yep, that's what I'm talking about. The part where Robert Plant is doing the whole fake-orgasm bit with all those creepy feedback sounds in the background.

So anyway, how many of the film clips used in this intro can we identify? I recognize "Nosferatu", "Phantom of the Opera", "Night of the Living Dead", "Carnival of Souls"...

  • The show with Led Zeppelin was the "Thriller Double Feature" not the "Saturday Shocker". I'm not pointing that out cause I'm one of those people who like to sound smarter than everyone else (I hate that) just trying to point people in the right direction.

Also "House on Haunted Hill is one of the clips at about 0:19. I recognize the same movies you do but there are a few scenes on there I'm not sure what they are. Hopefully someone else will come and be able to point them out.

  • The Saturday Shocker intro used to scare the shit ouf ot me when I was a kid. All I remember about it was some funky editing with the colour and someone going "AAAAAAHHHH!!" at the end of it. I've been looking for it forever. I'm pretty sure it was on WKBD.

  • @ronnyraven I would love to find the opening to "Scream Theater", that used to be on Channel 7 (ABC), Friday nights, back in the late 70's or early 80's. Used to scare the daylights out of me!!!! "Godzilla meets Bette Midler" "Godzilla prefers Bette Midler"

  • @kyokogodai I'm right there with you. I spent many Friday nights watching that and probably just about as many more falling asleep in front of the t.v. while visions of monsters dance through my dreams.

  • @ronnyraven Thanks so much for sharing the Thriller Double Feature commercial--man does it bring back memories. I remember as a kid in Detroit area having to run inside when I would hear the air raid sirens on a Sat afternoon to watch the Creature Feature, Thriller, or Chiller and have been hunting for the classic detroit tv bumpers for ever--thanks for sharing (you dont have the actual show opening vid do you?) ;)

  • @mdumas43073 I remember that; but it was Channel 20 in Detroit

  • Nice video. Any chance you might post the original version too? I've been wanting to see that again for years now.

  • Nice job. I would also love to see the original, anyone got it?
