i want to buy some rare coins like key dates and such whats a good place to start im a teen and cant just go buy a early bust dollar or somenthing. Give me your oppinion on what coins are good to start on
Ebay is a good place to become familiar with the lingo and associated sites and such. Double stamped and error coins are also valuable. What I'm seeing is that if you have them graded and sealed, then they are worth much more.
i have a 1928 two doller bill with red printing, a gold 1983 jfk coin in perfect condition, three benjerman fraklen coins, two morgan coins one is 1880 and the other 1890, and two one cent pennys. how much are all of them
It's interesting if you click on the YKoz3 link above. It seems he is abusive with many.
In 1943 the cent was struck on a zinc-coated steel planchet rather than the usual 95 percent copper planchet. The United States was involved in World War II and copper was needed for the war effort. The metal content of the cent changed from 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc to a low grade carbon steel base with a zinc coating.
Maybe two dozen -- copper planchets were struck with 1943 dies.

A relative term indicating that a coin within a series is very difficult to find. Also, a coin with only a few examples known. A rare Lincoln cent may have thousands known while a relatively common pattern may only have a few dozen known.
rarity
The number of specimens extant of any particular numismatic item. This can be the total number of extant specimens or the number of examples in a particular grade and higher. (This is referred to as condition rarity.)
Numismatics (Lat. numisma, nomisma, a coin; from the Greek, derived from voµi eiv, to use according to law), is the scientific study of currency and its history in all its varied forms. While numismatists are often characterized as students or collectors of coins, the discipline also includes a much larger study of payment media used to resolve debts and the exchange of goods.
I would. Silver's all time high was above $50.00 per ounce, and now it's $14.43 per ounce. The last time gold was around $800.00 Silver was close to $50.00

Could you tell me your definition of a "rare coin"? Seems that rare is a VERY overused word when it comes to numismatics.

So then my 1895 quarter eagle in NGC 62 dress, with a mintage of 6,199 is rare, or no? Seems alot more rare than any '16-D dime, or '09-S VDB.
geckster109 4 years ago
PCGS Price guide shows the coin that you have is worth APPOX. $700.00
It is truly a rare coin.
A 1916-D DIME IN MS 62 IS APPOX. $15,000.00
IN THE SAME GRADE A 1909-S VDB PENNY IS WORTH $1.600.00 APPOX.
