Definately one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It reaches out to so many levels and people of all races and colours. x Marcia looks stunning, a naturally beautiful woman.
@jnmklo9 - Weldon Irvine wrote it, Nina Simone performed it 1st. If you watch the Mos Def video Umi Says you will see Weldon Irvine playing the organ in it. Great talent many have never heard of.
Do you see how Marcia looks into the camera at 1:04 and stares with those beautiful eyes ? Reminds me so much of them Egyptian paintings on the walls of Egypt..Truly a Nubian Queen
@Skimmerranks ... yeah, I agreee, my heart just melts!!! I have grooved along to this song since I was a young teenager in the late 70s. They were so cool, and such simple, powerful lyrics. I'm a middle-aged white fella in Australia, and wish our a song like this could inspire some of our indigenous young people
Bless my eyes, but what a gorgeous woman Marcia Griffiths was in those days! The sort of woman wives and girlfriends don't like because every man that looks on them mentally commits adultery. The sort that while you look at them you can't imagine that anything more beautiful exists.
wonderful and evocative i am now old gifted and black but this song makes me feel 18 again. grab it by the hands and make it yours if you still are!!!!
Why is this song so fantastically moving? I don't know - but it is so evocative, so moving. Old twisted and white, I might be, but this touches me deeply - beautiful beautiful beautiful.
These two performers were at the Beres Hammond "A Moment In Time" concert a couple of hours ago. They didn't perform together but they were independently sensational.
OTW like Gozzilliaca also, it is moving isn't it? The times....
I liked this (1969), pop & hit the times. Nina Simone, was too polemic for me.
But now I actually think it better. But I still l;ove this. Bob Andy's voice makes it.

I am happy to have been around when singers sang, this is how you make a cover version of a great song-Nina Simone must have felt honoured .

I used to think this was about Cyrille Regis and Laurie Cunningham when I was 5/6 years old!
And what about Marcia - most gorgeous women in the 70s.

Excellent comment! Boing Boing! RIP Laurie Cunningham. They were from the era I became an Albion fan. Legends. :)
