@sms373 I dont have a prius but you could probably smoke my 745i....but then again who cares u drive a 3000 dollar car. I think my seats cost more than your whole car.
chevys do this when the lifters are bad so i would just invest my money in some new heads, pushrods and lifters...that way you know every thing is good and you can get all the performance you want in one weekend...however it will drive fine
I agree with passerby1100, sounds like piston slap, and A LOT of later model GM engines have it. Around 2000, GM saved money by going from the select build method, to net build method. This means that pistons weren't test fit to see if they fit in the cylinder bores tightly, so excessive clearances resulted. A lot of LS1 blocks were known for excessive piston slap. And don't ever go by what a GM oil pressure guage tells you, they are dead wrong lol. Good luck
Yup it's the rod bearings, if it were the lifters the noise pitch would be a bit high pitch, and like they said, your going to have to get the crank checked out to.
Mine held on for a bit like that but its dead now. Look into a 5.3 LM7, they are alot cheaper and you have to switch over the oil pan and intake system. Probably a bit more but thats what im going to do to mine
My car is doing the same shit, when I get it going though it goes away, not 100% but you can barely hear it even sitting in idle. It started when it got real could down here in florida, Car runs perfect and holds an oil pressure, What could I do to fix it and how much? or what s exactly wrong with it.
well depending on the year the early models of the LS engine had piston slap that would stop as the car got up to operational temp. so that could be it if you havnt found the prob yet

if you go through the trouble of replacing the rod bearings then change the lifters.

Even if you but new bearings in it the crank still needs to be machined and the rods and rod caps need to be checked and made sure there not fuck up.

You've got good oil pressure and that sounds like an exhaust leak. My LT1 made that EXACT same sound before I replaced my manifold gasket.
