yep, it did just come out and I just finished reading it. I wish I could say it was worth the wait. Regardless of my previous comments I wanted this book to be great. I will probably read it again, but I can't say I loved it the way I did some of the previous books in the series. With 2 books left in the series(whenever they may happen) I am starting to loose interest. Maybe I just need to digest what I just read a bit more, but I can't help but feel disappointed.
Books need time to grow. Everyone who has read the four books so far, knows how dense they are written and how well everything is tied together. Writing such a thing book for book and releasing them once in a while makes it even harder to keep on track. So dont bitch about how long it takes, because it will find an end and it will be awesome.
To everybody complaining about how long his writing process takes, it took tolkien 13 years to write a book about a fifth the size of Martins CURRENT series. And Robert Jordan died before he fiished his series. To all those who have the grit to say he is not working hard enough lets see you do something a tenth the magnitude he has done in his career.
@yzak 100 Well, its been 2 months since your note about there only being 5 chapters left and so far, not a word from George. His blog tells us he has been running around to book signings, conventions and he has been watching football.
but not a word about the book. I honestly believe he and his publisher may now be stalling the launch of the book for the purposes of selling the TV series. So expect the book to conveniently appear in April. He doesn't give a shit about the craft of writing.
@beef4u2use Seriously who cares. If you don't like waiting for the series then don't read it. If you disrespect him enough to say he is so lazy then don't keep track of what's going on with him. Unless you are an author and you are writing a 900 page novel yourself than you don't know what all he has to deal with in terms of release of a book. Whats not to say he could have wrote 400 pages and scrapped it because it wasn't enough. Just give him his dues and wait.
There like only 5 chapters left for A Dance with Dragons so its coming soon. Why don't you people realize that if an author doesn't have ideas for a book or isn't comfortable about FEELING his story he cant write for shit, do you guys really want him to finish the series fast shitty like how Terry Goodkind did? or do you want him to be in his A game.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I am so tired of his bullshit. He hasn't put out a book in 5 years, after telling his readers that it was just about done almost 4 years ago. Yet he has the audacity to run aroung to all these conentions and read "excerpts" of his upcoming book. He's too busy watching NFL football and buggering off to this Com or that filmset. Add to that, the fact that there are to be 2 other books after this one is alledgedly released.
He was in town to teach a college writing class for a week...I for one am not a writer, but this Saga is his "baby" so to speak ; I say take all the time you need!
The problem is he ain't got all the time he needs... He is allready in his 60-is, and at this rate of writing he won't finnish the series till he is 90, so...
@beef4u2use If it takes him longer to make the end of the series work, so be it. It would hardly be the longest a writer had worked on a series. Besides, he doesn't owe you (or anybody) a goddamned thing.
@13one Actually, as one of thousands who have purchased all the previous books he has written in the series I say he does owe us. At the end of the day we provide his income. It would be like paying to see a comedian and half way through telling us a story he fucks off for an hour to sell his next show. I am fully aware that the creative process can't be scheduled, but I see someone who is frankly not applying himself. It doesn't matter, my life will go on just fine, without his books.
@beef4u2use I disagree! An artist should no be pushed less you want an inferior product. I am no artist, but you show yourself as a dick for being an individual who wants the performer/writer/actor to appease your personal wants. You may add money to his pockets but you want to influence that which he gives to you in writing? WTF............I do not know you but I call you an arrogant dick based on what you wrote. He doesn't "owe" you his shit. I think you need to change your perspective a bit.
@Thulgore You're right about a couple of things. You definitely don't know me and you are definitely not an artist. Get out of your mother's basement, and get a life. Even Leonardo da Vinci had deadlines. That's life. People make commitments whether their profession is of a creative nature or not. By the looks of your picture, working at the comic book store is as big a commitment as you have had to make in your sad little life. Nice hair and beard...the remake of OZ is just around the corner.
@FiveFingerRainRap Thanks for sharing. I was wondering your thoughts were on the matter and you have finally responded. I particularly like to eloquence with which you make your point. You have trully thought this through. "Ya can't rush art". Well that comes as a real surprise considering all the wonderful work that has been done by so many a staring artists. All those artists that were commissioned to create works with time constraints must have just gotten lucky. Grow the fuck up asshole.
@beef4u2use 'staring'? I presume you mean starving? So what, then, has starving got to do with taking your time? All I know, is to George this is literally his life's work, the thing he has put the most effort into out of anything else, ever. Let the man take his time to say what he wants to say, properly. This is not a product, it is a man's magnum opus for christ's sake. And you try and call me an asshole?
