Exactly. Pineda is still vocally in his prime whereas Perry is not. The other thing is Pineda had a rough go of it early in his life (mom died when he was a kid and he was basically homeless). It's hard to root AGAINST him.

He's pretty spectacular considering how hard that song is to sing. The video quality is terrible so I don't know but he fell flat a little in those high notes. But all in all he's pretty good.

Another shining example is the constant lineup changes with one of my other favorite groups, Earth, Wind, & Fire. Maurice White had not been able to tour since 1996 with his parkinson's, but is still active in the studio. But again, musicians come and go but EWF, like Journey, are still going strong.

As a musician myself, I understand that voices sometimes tend to go with age, and also lineups change over the years for various reasons. I just went to see journey on Saturday night. arnel is a very good singer, but he had lots of trouble singing certain songs like faithfully,Don't Stop believin and Be Good to Yourself.He's no steve Perry, but then again who is.

I just went to see journey on Saturday night. arnel is a very good singer, but he had lots of trouble singing certain songs like faithfully,Don't Stop believin and Be Good to Yourself.He's no steve Perry, but then again who is.

Yeah I agree this guy sucks so bad, thats why Journey hired him as their front man. Because they wanted to show the world how bad they suck. They had to find some one who was comparable to Perry's weak vocals. The other leads they had hired were way to good for them.

Arnel is a good singer but hes not even close to Steve Perry. He cracks constantly and sounds out of his range alot of the time. If you want to hear someone that can sing go listen to Mdaviatx sing journey. He blows Arnel away. And at 2:28 that was 1 of the screw ups I was talking about.

He has nowhere better voice than the original, all supporters should at least get that clue. But he preformed outstanding on this clip. He's problem is the 'ss' sounds and making his voice clean, but I would say he is a GREAT singer, 2 of a kind! almost perfected S.P's voice. Go Arnel!! I'm so happy Journey started their tour again!!:D

so true, but singing cover does not mean singing a song note for note. If you do, that would only invite severe comparisons. Its hard to win any comparison with Steve Perry. With these later versions, Arnel is starting to alter notes here and there, putting his own identity into a Steve Perry known song.
He is eagerly anticipated here in the States.
