everyone in here who thinks only kickboxing and grappling are the only things that are useful in a real fight have no idea what a real fight is. UFC has rules and regulations put into play to keep things from getting really ugly, so in essence, ufc is the furthest thing away from real fighting, its just as real as the crouching tiger hidden dragon fight sequences, and thats for entertainment like ufc.

Some people will try to mame and kill you with weapons, and there are martial arts out there that specialize in just using them like kali, kendo, iado, and fencing just to name a few. Do some research on it, you might like what you find.

He trained in TKD in his early years and he credits it as beginning his MA skills, but no way his profession MMA stand up ability is based on TKD, he kicking technique is pure Muay Thai, watch more of his fights and tell me his kicking technique his Muay Thai. He trains in BJJ without MINOTAURO, yep he has a black belt in Judo, but if you look into his main training it's Muay Thai, Boxing (freddie roach), and BJJ (Big Nog). Look at some of his training vids on u tube and all access UFC
any effective strikes he throws are from thai and western boxing ,but he plays around with some other fancy shit from tkd and even savate.I was a child black belt in tkd and when I eventually moved to thai found myself a far better kicker than others in the sport with no other background.I was faster ,more flexible and better dexterity than the others but still changed to the thai round kick as it was way stronger.

Its a pity that Muay Thai doesnt get much fame or tribute especially since its one of the most practical and deadliest martial arts in a real fight and also look at the UFC fighters. They're using muay thai techniques. Must be because its from thailand that why....
jiu jitsu and wrestling are better in my opinion but it is so deadly...you can always see it. florian isnt great but he's gotten so much better at muy thai that he's moved up in the ranks fast, it should be highlighted with jiu jitsu - such a great art!
i agree jiu jitsu is a very dangerous and practical art but only if you're able to grapple him. jiu jitsu + muay thai = killer. But then jiu jitsu is already widely respected by many even more so with the movie never back down. But muay thai still remains shunted to the sidelines never basking in the glory it deserves.
i think Kudo Karate is also a good style, it isnt jus about muay thai and jiu jitsu, nowadays you have alot of guys going in and boxing instead of muay thai, also machida has proven that karate mixed with good bxoing and good muay thai is also efficient. MT and BJJ arent the onlly good styles around

yea muy thai is great, and we can see how its progressed fighters such as kenny, but I just heard this week that kenny has switched training camps and will be from now on training with GSP...and his art is kyokashin karate...GSP's karate and shotokan(machida) karate have proved to be a deadly art in the cage. even vitor belfort applys karate these days...so its not about muy thai so much anymore...its all about karate!
karate is definitely effective for counter-striking - i used to do it, but majority of good strikers do training more based off of muy thai where they're elbowing and kicking pads to build up there shins. Karate is good but i still say muy thai/boxing for standup and bjj/wrestling for ground. GSP started in karate but he's become such a wrestling freak that he doesn't display it that often but to set shit up. nonetheless i think they all have their positives and negatives.
i hear that. and really, karate only started getting some serious attention after GSP and machida stepped into the scene, so it's not the best but its definitely nowhere near the worst. i come from a taekwondo backround but i also studied tiger fist karate and i've seen the advantage and disadvantage with both forms. i guess it's all about will power and how you apply your knowledge.

He trained in TKD in his early years and he credits it as beginning his MA skills, but no way his profession MMA stand up ability is based on TKD, he kicking technique is pure Muay Thai, watch more of his fights and tell me his kicking technique his Muay Thai. He trains in BJJ without MINOTAURO, yep he has a black belt in Judo, but if you look into his main training it's Muay Thai, Boxing (freddie roach), and BJJ (Big Nog). Look at some of his training vids on u tube and all access UFC

any effective strikes he throws are from thai and western boxing ,but he plays around with some other fancy shit from tkd and even savate.I was a child black belt in tkd and when I eventually moved to thai found myself a far better kicker than others in the sport with no other background.I was faster ,more flexible and better dexterity than the others but still changed to the thai round kick as it was way stronger.

jiu jitsu and wrestling are better in my opinion but it is so deadly...you can always see it. florian isnt great but he's gotten so much better at muy thai that he's moved up in the ranks fast, it should be highlighted with jiu jitsu - such a great art!

i agree jiu jitsu is a very dangerous and practical art but only if you're able to grapple him. jiu jitsu + muay thai = killer. But then jiu jitsu is already widely respected by many even more so with the movie never back down. But muay thai still remains shunted to the sidelines never basking in the glory it deserves.

i think Kudo Karate is also a good style, it isnt jus about muay thai and jiu jitsu, nowadays you have alot of guys going in and boxing instead of muay thai, also machida has proven that karate mixed with good bxoing and good muay thai is also efficient. MT and BJJ arent the onlly good styles around

yea muy thai is great, and we can see how its progressed fighters such as kenny, but I just heard this week that kenny has switched training camps and will be from now on training with GSP...and his art is kyokashin karate...GSP's karate and shotokan(machida) karate have proved to be a deadly art in the cage. even vitor belfort applys karate these days...so its not about muy thai so much anymore...its all about karate!

karate is definitely effective for counter-striking - i used to do it, but majority of good strikers do training more based off of muy thai where they're elbowing and kicking pads to build up there shins. Karate is good but i still say muy thai/boxing for standup and bjj/wrestling for ground. GSP started in karate but he's become such a wrestling freak that he doesn't display it that often but to set shit up. nonetheless i think they all have their positives and negatives.

i hear that. and really, karate only started getting some serious attention after GSP and machida stepped into the scene, so it's not the best but its definitely nowhere near the worst. i come from a taekwondo backround but i also studied tiger fist karate and i've seen the advantage and disadvantage with both forms. i guess it's all about will power and how you apply your knowledge.

@xGLmedia its not that i dont respect them, thats not it all i love all martial arts, its a matter are they useful, and the most useful are some sort of ground work, judo, wrestling bjj, jj, ajj, a striking, boxing muy thai karate some tkd is useful, the kicks are really good from tkd, jkd is probably my favorite martial art because it encompasses all aspects, but wing chun, akido are among of some of the useless for a fight, its great that some one wants to train them but not effective
