This is a military parade band. The cadets learn to march as a rifle line company and don't have need or time to learn 8/5 football field marching and cheesy half-time shows.
Cheesy? hm maybe it's my lack of musical appreciation but I believe that I hate college bands in general simply because they lack ability and musicality. But naturally I realize that they only practice maybe maximum of 50 minutes a week, whereas junior drum corps practice 14 hours a day for 3 months all summer.
well the VMI band has classes like any other regular college, they play the march down music in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for dinner. They then also practice for a good portion of the afternoon. VMI is not some club, VMI is a college.
you can't really compare the two. i've done texas dci like marching shows for four years and i know it sounds really bad. But the two are completely differ and you can't compare them
you might think the marching sucks, you just don't know what beat we go off of for the left foot, it's too hard to explain, you actually have to go to VMI
Has anyone looked at their rival's band, The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes?

Definitely the Regimental band of a renown senior military college. One of six I might add.

Oh, well, it has the melody of "The Minstrel Boy." I just assumed it was "The Minstrel Boy."

Are you talking about the last song? If so, the last song is "The Minstrel Boy."
zealot2007 4 years ago
The last song is most definitely Shenandoah. It is a staple of the VMI Regimental Band.
