  • Italian, of course. "Gino" Marella everlasting legend

  • @josep3r3z you're right! lol

  • I remember seein this back then before the show started.

  • You know,I also grew up in that era and I always had a soft spot for him for some reason.I read his obituary in the newspaper and was very surprised at the coverage that was given to him.I felt that it was an era in wrestling that came to an end.I liked the him very much.He was respected by all.

  • I watched the WWE for 21 years. I still the commentary between Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. They were awesome announcers. RIP Gorilla Monsoon. We'll never forget you. You'll always be in our hearts.

  • I heard that he used to get into the ring for a match wearing an expensive jacket, take it off slowly, fold it up carefully, then drop it to the mat and kick it out of the ring XD Classic.

  • A man who called a wrestling match and explained why the moves hurt using medical terminology. Truly a better time in wrestling. I miss you Gorilla.

  • Whenever I see old wrestling videos from the 80s and early 90s on youtube and I hear Gorilla Monsoon's voice comentating, it instantly makes me happy. No disrespect intended to JR, but Monsoon was simply the best play by play comentator ever. And I loved him and Heenan together. They made me laugh so many times growing up as a kid.

  • Me To Glad I saw The Hennan/Moonsoon Era too. Will U stop and Will U be Sercious will live in our Voclubarry books. Gorrila should strike Lightning down on Cole tonite to show him what a real wwe comentary looks like.

  • Gorrila was the best. Gorrila was the first guy to introduce me to pro wrestling and the WWF back in 1983. Gorrila like Jr had a passion for the bussiness. Pro Wrestling has not been the same since we lost Gorrila. Brain and Gorrila kept me laughing on Primetime and Wrestlemaina's. God Bless The Brain. Gorrila was the Heart of the WWE

  • He looked so thin in the video when he got old. That is sad.

  • Proud to say I grew up during the era Monsoon and Heenan did commentary.

    "Will you STOP??"

  • @SnakeMan227

"You could cut the electricity in here with a knife!"

  • Monsoon and Heenan were quick witted and smart. Today the commentary is dumbed down and boring.

  • He looks like a mafioso

  • his son was a referee in wwf but was killed in a car crash

  • Monsoon's Play by Play was the best, loved his passion in just saying "Irish Whppin!" or "Inverted Atomic Drop!!!"

  • The rapport between Gorilla and Heenan was priceless! Those two kept me entertained for years! I was truly saddened at Gorilla's passing. Sadly, just like the death of Gordon Solie, Gorilla's death leaves a HUGE void in wrestling commentary. I would like to see Vince McMahon return to announcing. Jim Ross, Lawler, and Vince would be GREAT together! I can't stand Michael Cole or Booker T! Just like today's wrestlers, the announcers aren't even as good as they used to be!

  • @don62snodgrass

McMahon was a great announcer. He never should have gotten involved in storylines.

  • @don62snodgrass

yea but20 yrs from now people are gonna say they miss micheal cole and king, and they cant stand cena and hhh commentating

  • @josep3r3z The thought of Cena doing any form of commentary sends a shiver down my spine...

  • R.I.P Gorilla Monsoon

  • "Ooooh, will you stop!!"

    Gorrilla to Heenan

  • His son died young, Joey Morella. Not sure of the spelling

  • It was worth the price of admission just to hear Gorilla yell, "pandemonium..."

That was all you needed to know. R.I.P. Gino

  • Gorilla is a legend. Hands down.

"Old school WWF clips and Videos." Search it on Facebook and like! 80s and 90s clips in your news feed. Can't go wrong with it!

  • We Miss you Gorilla

  • mr.monsoon was the nicest guy you could ever meet he would tell mr.heenan to be quitewhen he would say something wrong

  • miss you gorilla

  • Why put something of such poor quality on youtube? I realize that it is the only video you have of the tribute, but this was unwatchable.

  • joey marella was a ref and gorillas son ssmccullough and sadly passed away in a car accident

  • Damn, this tribute sends chills up and down my spines. RIP Gorilla. You were the greatest commentator ever.

  • We shouldnt cry that Monsoon is gone. God is the biggest wrestling fan and he just wanted the best commentator to call his matches.

  • @southerncajuncharm this is correct

  • Many people only knew him as a shill for WWF back in the '80's but I knew him as the guy who put Mohammad Ali on the run, and I saw that with my own two eyes before the Antonio Inoki / Ali match. So Have a banana daiquiri on me there big man. You were one tough hombre and you are missed.

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • The President of the World Wrestling Federation

  • we miss you gorilla.

  • A while back, my text message tone was "This place has gone bananas!"

  • Interesting Fact: Santino Marella was given that surname as a tribute to both Gorilla and Joey Marella.

  • @NeptuneNetwork: I don't believe that

  • THANKS FOR THE MEMORYS GORILLA YOU WERE HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE NUMBER 1 RING SIDE ANOUNCER NO ONE CALLS IT LIKE YOU R.I.P

  • to james92802: You are a jerk. Gorilla would have whooped your ass in his prime or even in later years. This guy was truly legit shooter. If you think he sucked, then why did he win NCAA title twice? One of the greatest super heavyweights ever. Always remember asshole, there is always someone bigger and tougher than any of us. I wrestled too & was taught Greco/Shoot, someone tougher is around the corner.

  • Monsoon was unfortunately a shill for Don Vinnie and some of his commentary such as on Bull Nakano was simply put, f**ked up and stupid. But he was an interesting announcer for many years and he died way too young-I think diabetes played a part in it.

  • Wrestling has gone downhill now that men like Gorilla Monsoon are gone.

  • Gorilla was the only man to wrestle Muhammad Ali and box Andre the Giant !

  • He's with Joey now.

  • we miss you gorilla

  • 1999 was a sad year for tha wrestling business. Tha tragic death of owen hart,

the passing of ravishing rick rude and gorilla monsoon.

  • Nice video quality dumbass.

  • @Anaxagoran

It's from a video, the hell did you expect?

    It's watchable...Unlike todays WWE

  • @SolidMike84 Um well there's plenty of way s to make the video better. This is one of the worst qualities ive seen.

  • @Anaxagoran

    Still watchable

    I've seen worse

  • Gorilla Monsoon - 80's

    Vinny Mac - 90's

    Jim Ross - 2000's

  • @Frequent2001 That is absolutely uncalled for !

  • Was his son a referee for the WWF back in the late 80's?

  • @ssmccullough Joey Marella, yes.

  • @ssmccullough Yes, Joey Marella. Joey was killed in in 94' after he fell asleep while driving. "Harvey Wippleman" was with him and was almost killed.

  • @ssmccullough Joey Marella was his adopted son. Sadly, he was killed in an automobile accident in the 90's.

  • @ssmccullough Yeah, his name was Joey Merillia. He used his mother's maiden name. Joey was the ref during the WM3 Hogan/Andre match and he got into some angles with Danny Davis. He died is a car accident before Gorilla died.

  • @Cavillier1970 Joey died in a car crash on July 4, 1994 when he fell asleep at the wheel while not wearing his seatbelt.

  • @cra0422 I knew it was something like that, but the details I was fuzzy on. I remember it was near my birthday. Thanks

  • @ssmccullough yes he was. Name was Joey Marella. I think he died too, if I am not mistaken.

  • @ssmccullough Yes Joseph Morella

Died in a car crash before his father died

  • @ssmccullough Joey Marella

  • @ssmccullough yes his son got killed i a car accident

  • @ssmccullough yes his son got killed in a car accident

  • @ssmccullough yes. His son's name was Joey Murilla. He was the Referee for the Hulk Hogan/Andre The Giant Wrestlemania 3 match. He died in a car accident.

  • @jilajig2 You mean Marella

  • @lildwayne21 you are correct. my bad:(

  • @ssmccullough yes he was but was killed in a car accident

  • @ssmccullough His son, Joey Marella was a referee. He died in a car accident in 1993.

  • @ssmccullough I believe so. I think he was the ref in the Andre Hogan match at Wrestlemania III.

  • Comment removed

  • @ssmccullough Yes, Joey Morella :)

  • @ssmccullough yes his son's name was Joey Marella.he was killed in a car accident in 1994 after leaving a live event.

  • Can't believe he's been gone 11 years.... :((

  • I cried when Bobby Heenan was elected into the Hall of Fame and he said "I only wish Gorilla was here"

  • @JuiceIsLoose22 Yeah, I remember that too. I cried as well.

  • I miss his voice during matches, I would have liked to have heard his voice during the Austin era, that would have been interesting.

  • we love you gino

  • i am in fucking tears

  • "Give me a break!"

  • @yardape99 "will you stop??"

  • @11JimMorrison

"That'll give you a negative attitude."

  • This is a sad song and it makes me cry just watching it

  • what did he pass away from?

  • There was noone more dedicated to the industry more than Gorilla Monsoon. He was an extremely talented competitor and broadcaster. No words can describe the man. Like bobby heenan said, the pearly gates in heaven will now be known as the gorilla position.

    R.I.P Robert James "Gorilla" Marella.

  • Perfect title "The Saddest Gorilla Monsoon Tribute."

    Thanks for posting this.

  • People say Jim Ross is the best announcer ever but I disagree. Monsoon was the greatest of all time.

  • i wish the the WWe still had an active commentator who was even half as great as this guy was

    R.I.P Gorilla Monsoon

  • "with great sadness and heavy hearts" a phrase used too often when sum1 dies in the WWE

  • We miss owen too.

  • Rest in peace. Mr. Morella. You were an amazing entertainer and remain in our hearts forever.

  • i shulld wish he was in world now i wulld intervive him. he was awesome my new favourit sad about wader go anger mansoon shulld dont stop slap on wader..

  • RIP Gorilla Monsoon. I grew up listening to Gorilla Mosoon annouce matches. There will be noone as good as he was.

  • the single best Announcer ever in the History of Pro Wrestling he was one of the main reasons I watched wrestling

  • 0:35 at Wrestlemania in this clip, he received the loudest ovation of the night. He passed away just 2 months later.

  • @James92802 dosent count for shit when you proved what a lame ass square you are ... not to mention a big time asshole ...

    R.I.P Gorilla Monsoon

  • Dan Gable sucks !!!

  • @james92802 nobody cares what you think!!! Monsoon is in his college hall of fame for what he did in the NCAA as a wrestler. Are you in yours I bet not!!

  • Gorilla was a NCAA wrestler and is in his schools hall of fame for what he did as a NCAA wrestler.RIP Gorilla

  • @James92802 a hero can be do anything dude a person can look up to a pro wrestler athelte an actor or firefighter or a cop

  • I agree whole Heartedly MRHOLLYWOOD52485! Something I have learned about Hero's, it's not about how much they make, how many friends they have, or what belongings they have, A hero in my mind, is someone who has expierenced possibly the most toughest parts of aderverity and still has come out to be some of the greatest people I have ever met in my entire life. Hero's are the example of what it is to be a Legend. Here's a saying, "Winners and Champions live a long time. Legends, live forever!"

  • Well - little know fact about Dan Gable -- when he was a kid his older sister was raped and murdered.

Despite that he became the greatest wrestler in American History - and one of the greatest coaches in the world.

  • James98202, and right there falls in my definition the of a hero and legend....People complain about bad days. People complain about being underpaid. Something you can NEVER take away from anyone, especially a legend, is their experiences that has earned them the title as such! Just wish that today we had more people in the world who can be the example of what it looks like to push through even the most hardest times, and still comeout to be one of the greatest folks that has ever lived!

  • @James92802

pro RASTLERS in the big bizz make more money and fuck more women than you ... and reall wrestlers ... Faruk Sahin , Ibrahim Karam , Stephen Abas ... I used to wrestle on the mat in Jr high and High school but pro wrestling is alot more fun! its a great show to put on that nobody can argue with. except you maybe

  • @James92802 ok i do know some real wrestlers name i do now dan gable kurt angle brock lesner ya they went to pro wrestling but they were wrestlers but look where they went after

  • Very respectable tribute to a very respectable man.

Anyone know what show this aired on? Date?

  • R.I.P

  • you know UFC fans will always talk shit about the " real " factor ... but you dont have to like pro wrestling but respect it and the men that put their lives on the line to entertain the world. this is one person that will live on forever in the history of wrestling R.I.P Gorilla Monsoon

  • James92802 nobody said shit about body building or NCAA us pro wrestlers and pro wrestling fans know the difference between SPORTS and SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT and to say we pro wrestlers have no athletic capability ... well that just makes you dumber than you think us wrestling fans are , ever seen japanese wrestling? Acrobatics , martial arts , etc. we use it all and are trained to not hurt each other with our skills so take your head out of your ass and step into a ring if you know it all.

  • @James92802 honestly , I want somebody with your expierienc in MY ring. they do a great job. but somebody like you I wouldnt mind Deathmatch style to tear your ass apart with everything from a kama to a weedwacker. face it ur a mat tech wh thinks everything else is BS. and your lack of sportsmanship is appauling. so ya rant on idiot im not a dumb redneck wrestling fan like you think. keep makin yourself lookdumb. maybe yo should smoke some weed to open your mind upa lil bit. lol Fuck You dumby

  • @James92802 nobody asked you if you were in the military or if you dislike us "posers " as you say. call us what you will but your dumbass rants about wrestling isnt gonna stop any of US watching or admiring people in pro wrestling. so im gonna stop wastin my time on you cuz I dont really believe your lil rants about NCAA and military BS. and by the way if your such a hater of pro wrestling what you doing watching a video thats in tribute to a PRO WRESTLER anyways? lmao stuuupid fuck

  • anyone know the name of the music??

  • people take the UFC vs Wrestling thing on a different video.

This is about a wonderful broadcaster and a wonderful man who truly epitomized Sports Entertainment.

R.I.P Robert "Gorilla" Marella. You were the greatest and always will be.

I'll use a bret hart quote for this.

Gorilla Monsoon "The Best There Is, The Best There Was, And The Best There Ever Will Be."

  • No correct yourself he epitomized WRESTLING! Sport Entertainment is the devil

  • yeah you're right. My bad. I should have said Wrestling, he was the Wrestling business, the purity of wrestling.

Definitely A Wrestling Man not a sports entertainer.

  • @James92802 Hey big mouth! If you would have done some research on Gorrilla Monsoon you would have found out that not only was he a former amateur Wrestler like you are, but he also did some Track and Field, and played football too when he was attending Jefferson High School in Rochester, New York. He held some distinctions on Track and Field. He also went to Ithaca College were he kept wrestling and in 1959 he finished in second place at NCAA wrestling.

  • @James92802 If he didnt know to wrestle and has no talent, tell me why he had an 18-second wrestling pin distinction and a second place in the 1959 NCAA wrestling championship?

The Next time you want to go on a rant on someone like Monsoon, make sure that you know all the facts about that said person and dont focus only on what he did in pro Wrestling.

  • he was great at giving wrestling fans a true explanation and passion for what the business was all about. He wrestled for many years and was pretty athletic for a man his size.

But it was his broadcasting abilities that made him into a legend and by far the greatest broadcaster Pro Wrestling ever had and will ever be.

    That's why he is great.

  • @Oldschoolhockey91 AMEN man... AMEN !

  • @Oldschoolhockey91 Monsoon was a dreadful announcer, just terrible. Your inane babbling sounds like a WWE press release; it's almost an entirely meaningless statement. You could have written about how Monsoon was very magnanimous about the industry, and how he didn't like certain aspects of it. Instead you went for near-meaningless emotion. Fail.

  • @MattSingh1 Hey fuck you. He's just trying to pay respects to a dead man who had a great passion for the wrestling businss. Personally, Monsoon was an awesome announcer. Take the hate somewhere else.

  • @j0nboy12397 Wow, "fuck you"...how long did it take you to think of that salient and coherent retort. If you mistake integrity, and dissent, for 'hate', well, I pity you. Like I said, and you completely ignored, Monsoon actually DISLIKED certain aspects of pro wrestling. You totally ignored the points I made. More the fool for you...

  • @MattSingh1 hypocrite, you ignored the points I made as well.

  • gorilla monsoon by far the greatest play by play announcer of all time

  • This gives me shivers and forces me to shed a tear as these men are gone. These men defined my childhood. WWF R.I.P.

  • kids now a days missed one of the best play by play announcers of all time im glad he is the hall of fame and that i can still hear his play by play on the summerslam and royal rumble and wrestlemania dvds from the past

  • Miss gorilla monsoon wonder what he'd say if he saw the wwe now

  • I salute you Gorilla Monsoon. You and Heenan and Piper and Ventura made my 80s and 90s special. *Salutes*

  • this is the worst video quality in youtube

  • the wwe fans know missed out on a great announcer

  • gorilla and bobby heenan was the best announcers ever

  • RIP Gorilla Monsoon, you are greatly missed.

  • one of best announcers i wish he was alive and i would have love to see him and jr or the king do one show together

  • WWF was golden in the pre-RAW era. Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura was doing Superstars and Gorrila Monsoon and Bobby Heenan did Wrestling Challenge.

    They were both great teams.

  • I miss Gorilla Monsoon so much :'(

  • If it wasn't for Gorilla Monsoon, there wouldn't be a modern day WWE.

  • Gorilla and Heenan were the best team ever, better than JR and the King

  • jim ross is the best commentator in pro wrestling today, but to quote gorilla monsoon, finding someone that surpasses the standard that the gorilla set -- highly unlikely, in my book.

  • Gorilla Monsoon was the best. I firmly believe he was responsible for a large part of the WWF's success in the "good old days".

He was also the only man to WRESTLE Muhammad Ali, and BOX with Andre the Giant.

  • man...62. That sucks. He could still be commentating today.

  • He tried his best to live a long great life, but he had diabetes. I loved him.

  • ya and we wouldn't have to deal with Michael Cole every Monday Night!!!

  • @rkoduke3d Give Michael Cole credit hes no JR but hes getting better.

  • Look at Wrestling today;(! All Legends died!RIP from Germany

  • Gorilla was one of the greatest wrestling commentators of all time!! He was always my favourite when I first started watching WWF video tapes when i was a kid!!! Nothing beats his arguements with Bobby Heenan: "Will you be serious!!" lol =D

    RIP...

  • R.I.P Gorilla Monsoon. He was the best commentator to have ever called a professional wrestling match.

  • You know who was a really great broadcast team as well. gorilla and Ventura. they were really good together. Not as good as brain and gorilla but none the less very compatable.

  • I'm an old school WWF fan, and Gorilla Monsoon was one of my BIG favorites -- Bringing class and humor to Prime Time Wrestling and all the other WWF shows.

Was thinking of him and whole family recently in light of the 10th anniversary of his passing. He brought, and STILL continues to bring on my VHS tapes, a LOT of joy to my life! May his memory and legacy live forever!

May God continue to richly bless you, Victor, and the whole Marella family! We know Geno is in a better place!

  • Gorilla Monsoon was a little before my time but the more I watch old wrestling, the more I appreciate him for what a great announcer he was. Most of the matches I've seen with him on commentary were with Jesse Ventura and they're great. And yes this video choked me up a little even though I didn't watch much of him. RIP Gorilla Monsoon and God Bless

  • It's hard not to get choked up watching this video. The best WWF announcing team, no doubt was Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan. It was a special time in the WWF, I miss those days.

It's been over 10 years since Gorilla was taken from us, but still I hope you are RIP.

  • does anyone have the nitro episode where bobby heenan pays his respects on the night he died. really would like to see it

  • Me too. It's still not on youtube :(

  • Also, if anyone knows where to find that Joey Marella tribute they aired on WWF Superstars back in July 1994 then please give us the link for that too.

  • I have not been able to find the tribute to my brother anywhere ( I have it on VHS)..would love to see it here, and yes, you may share my information....take care~Valerie

  • Back in the early to mid 70s, my mom used to work for the Channel 29 affiliate based in Philadelphia. She told me that Gorilla would bring the tapes in and how he was such a nice gentleman there and how everybody loved him.

  • thanx guys....this is one of the best tributes to my dad I've seen yet...I love this video, but the comments mean so much more. He was one of a kind, a legend, and is truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
