  • bravo, great from italy.

  • Please release more albums. I have the two on your website. They are great. How about one with this rendition on it.

  • sounds like a song far west, complete with pianist with dancers, very good

  • listening to all your music vids and I am totally gobsmacked!!!

  • I have been listening to Boogie woogie since 1950 and the first records I bought were 78's of Pine Top, Meade Lux Lewis and Albert Ammons, Art Tatum. Then Dr John and he is great but your sweet, Tipitina-Junkers Blues is the best I have ever heard as it has a beautiful intro, blues and boogie woogie and you put more soul in it than in all of your other songs combined-a Superiorwork of art. Thank you, Gary

  • cool left hand too!

when are you coming to Toronto?

  • Also, da fehlen einem doch glatt die Worte - einfach und schlichtweg hinreissend!!!

  • I'm still catching my breath.... what can I say?

Fess is smiling up there in blues heaven.

  • One thing to say.....Don't you dare to stop uploading!!!!!!!!!!!!Fantastic man...really fantastic!!!!!!!

  • It is a pleasure to watch and listen to you play. Thank you for sharing your talent, don't stop uploading.

  • One of the sweetest Tipitina's I've heard. Thanks BWK!

  • lovely, damn lovely man

  • I just never grow tired of hearing you play this! Hope all is well Michael!! You Rock!!

  • comme les autres de l'ipro et savoir taper les notes

    tres beau

  • I like this version even better than the other one!

  • Brilliant ... just what the art form needs ... a guy with a plaster bust of Chopin (? hard to tell from that angle) on his piano deconstructing Fess and rippin it all time best ... if this guy is Marcia Ball's son, all bow down

  • my bet is marcia balls son.

thanks for louisiana 1927 in 07 marcia!

  • Which one is wearing a gold lame suit ???

  • Brilliant ! feels New Orleansy- like it on an ol stan up tho`

  • Just when i thought Tipitina couldn't be better than the best I've heard, I hear this... Thanks man! You make this world a better place, pianistically.

  • Thanks Virtuapapa!

  • @Boogiewoogiekid Matt, first I must say this is amazing, very hard to tell the difference in between you, Dr. John and Professor Longhair. I did want to say that this is just the tune to Tipitina.....not the Junkers Blues, If you listen to Fats Domino's The Fat Man that is how I know it. I could be wrong and if I am please feel free to correct me.

  • Thank you Gary! I know that Fats derived his piece Fat Man from Champion Jack Durpee's junkers blues, but there is another and different Junkers blues by Tut's Washington that Professor Longhair picked up and renamed his Tipitina. This is recorded in a documentary called Piano players Rarely Ever Play together.

  • @Boogiewoogiekid - Well you added some knowledge to me, now lets see what you can do with Champion Jack Dupree' verson/Fats Domino' version. The best rendition I ever saw him do was 1985 @ Universal in Los Angeles CA. Look up The Fat Man Live and that will give you something to work off of.

  • yadda yadda yadda

great blues, great piano, great rythm, great cup of coffee and great statue of some dude from the 1700s... but MAN! THAT'S a pair of sunburns - I - MUST - HAVE!!!!

    cheers from brazil, mate! ;D

  • That's wholesome

  • everyone saying how great you are ..... dont get me wrong, you are amazing - but the off screen beat guy/girl is cool to ^^

  • I'll tell her - she'll be happy to see this comment! - thanks for watching!

  • Matthew Ball, eh...is he related to Cajun Blues Singer/Master pianist Marcia Ball?

  • i could listen to you play all day

    agreed, very elegant intro!

  • I don't know how many times I've listened to this and it's all great, but that intro is one of the most elegant things I've ever heard.

  • I stop by to listen to this and put it up on facebook again every 2 days!!! What a Talent!!!! He can make that thing SANG!!! PS - Thanks for writing me Matt! You're the GREATEST!!!

  • I am in absolute awe of this man and his talent!! I don't know how old he is now but I can tell you he is going to be BIG, VERY BIG and very soon indeed!! He's Handsome AND a Talent ne plux ultra!!!

  • I must say watching this cat play is a sensual experience! WOW!!!

  • wonderful

  • Great work! Booker says hi.

    ZdP

  • As all your videos, FANTASTIC! Don't sack the tamborine, it adds a nice beat to it :)

  • Thank You!

  • Great playin!! (sack the one on the tamborine!!)

  • As an avid piano player myself, I must say that the feeling put into this piece is awe inspiring.

With such grip on the groove of this piece it's hard not to be drawn into it.

I love playing the boogie woogie style, and have been inspired by many of your videos.

I'm only 15, and so I am probably lacking some of the experiance required, but here's hoping that some time soon I can sound at least half as good as you!

  • Thank you for this terrific comment - its just as gratifying to be called an inspiration to the younger generation of enthusiasts - thanks - Matt

  • Wonderful. Its nice to listen.

  • Just simply awesome!

I so hope that one day you come over to the UK - so many people would pay to see you play live over here (just make sure if you ever do you reserve me a ticket ;) )

  • I'll just second what WillieDines1 said as he pretty much said it all.

  • Cool, mate. Really great playing!

  • That is a piece of playing that would definitely make Fess, Tuts, Booker, Dr John and all the other New Orleans piano legends proud :)

I've heard alot of boogie woogie, blues, stride, ragtime and New Orleans Piano music, and this version of Janker Blues/Tipitina, is ranks up there with the very best of tracks I've heard :)

This piece has got ALOT of heart and feeling in it, and I woould love to hear more New Orleans piano like that :)

Top rating always and thank you for sharing this :)

  • AMAZING!!! - Better than Dr. John's!

  • Sweet.

  • Very, very nice, Matt.

  • Wonderfull!

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!!
