@RPFS2008 He knew he could do more for his "cause" with the enemy. That's why he went to the Fed. To help his ilk. I once heard him say that corruption was OK because it would get corrected by the Market. If I ever met the man, I would have robbed his ass, took his wallet and all his credit cards.
What a coward Lyndon Johnson was in 1968. He gets his country embroiled in a war then he walks away from it. Of course the poor slobs sent off to fight his war had no such luxury.
Milton Friedman (uncorruptible) was truly an asset to education. His careful thought & logic makes much more sense than anything our politicians are capable. Mr Friedman was not near as infulential as I wish he had been. That was not his fault. - When someone talks to a snail, it's impossible get results from the snail. Although he made some progress with some more intelligent snails, he couldn't work miracles. He was trying to inform politicians with agendas & that was like talking to snails.
Wow! Alan Greenspan actually did some good for once. It still doesn't make up for causing the worst financial collapse since the Great Depression mind you but it's a start.
What did Milton mean by : You are a mercenary general and I am a mercenary professor, we are served by a mercenary lawyer, we are served by a mercenary doctor..?
@LibertyPen Mercenary are those paid to do a specific task that are not employed or have the same nationality as the one they are working for. Once their task is accomplished they move on. So a freelancer is a mercenary but not ordinary workers.
Voluntary is ALWAYS better than compulsory. Individuals are ALWAYS a better judge of what merits military action and what doesn't. If this country were attacked do you think there would be a shortage of volunteers for the military? an defending the natin would merit it. Are our police actions throughout the world over the last 50 years meritorious? Would you volunteer to go to Iraq or Vietnam?
yeah, compulsory is better than voluntary when you are a military dictator. But for the people who do the fighting and dying, voluntary is always better than compulsory.
this is just clearly wrong. What if a violent alien race tried to kill all humans. then war would be wrong? you would rather be right and lay down and die? BAH
well they are right and wrong. If everyone adopted this attitude there would be no war because there would be no soldiers to fight it. Except the first group of people to raise a war party wins cause no one will fight back.
In this context, when they are talking about abolition, they mean ending slavery. Women were never enslaved; Therefore, there was never an abolition movement for women.
True. He, in my opinion, is the best at presenting the case of freedom. While I don't agree with his monetarist views, I can't ignore how he has introduced freedom and liberty and libertarianism to many more people.
My thoughts exactly. I disagree with Friedman on matters of the state and economics, but unlike modern liberals, he wanted what was best for people and actually did something about it... AND some god damn research!
Unfortunately Milton F. still believed that when banks collapse liquidity must be restored by inflation if necessary. This is stupid since expansion of the money supply distorts investment preventing recovery in loan markets.
Seeing Greenspan in this video reminds me of the phrase: 'the banality of evil.' Imagine if John Law had stood before the French Regent in 1721 and said: 'I have found a flaw in the free market' without a hint of irony. YOU and your paper are the problem, John Greenspan.
@AshillaBeige You say you disagree with him, but do not say what you disagree with. Most likely because someone can pick apart your arguments using Milton's own words, like he did to everyone else. I am pretty sure he knew more about economics than you do, I think I'll trust his opinion.
Well, I'm not really looking for a debate on economic views. So just to clear that up.
I'm going to read some of his books soon, but I've not really read read any of his books.
I'm not a monetarist because I don't believe that every human being will take the same action. As you can tell from that statement, I'm more in favor of Austrian economics.
fuckin jew his dead for good, and im happy im not socialist not komunist, im jus a human with hope to lve like a human not slave

Allan Greenspan was an Ayn Rand pussy licker who was force to admit he was wrong to congress about his dog eat dog cowboy capitalism.

"his dog eat dog cowboy capitalism"
Yep, he was so much for free market capitalism that he thought it best to go into the central planning business.

So is Milton in effect saying that human beings only work for a paycheck and money is our primary interest?
L45 1 year ago
@L45 No, he is saying wanting to go to war for government pay is a lot better than being forced to fight like a slave.

L45 1 year ago
@L45 A mercenary is simply one who performs his/her duties merely for pay. Therefore, most people who work could be considered mercenaries.

The problem with getting volunteers is that just about any college you go to has a large number of people damning the military.
And we think that these same people would rush to enlist?

Great. From what documentary is this excerpt from?

Not when you NEED soldiers ASAP.

@DickeyRogers
It is when the majority of people won't join any other way.
At times of great upheaval we need a military. The people can be levied as a military.
In the event of a draft it would be a case of too many dead to fight anymore.
wormer105 1 year ago
@wormer105
if the war is justified u dont need compulsion
people will volunteer. If people arent willing to volunteer then obviously the war isnt worth it

Both of us I assume know different but this way of thinking is everywhere.
