i just listened to this, wearing headphone, with my volume so loud my mom came in to ask me to turn it down, i might be deaf in a few years,, but goddammit is that shit awesome!
I live under a rock. Actually a mountain. I quietly listened to Nirvana for a year before I finally got the news that he died. If a fan is somebody who listened and appreciated Nirvana a lot then I qualify. Often though, a "true fan" is defined as somebody who stalks the band and carves out pieces of the ground they walked on and hoards them (which I'm not).
your not an asshole i agree its pretty sad when somebodys suiside can be a gate way for media cover and boost their popularity .its sad because that was the last thing he would have wanted
My computer bookmarked this page itself. And I keep accidentally clicking on it, however I'm okay with it, if you haven't noticed, because I haven't deleted it.
My favourite Nirvana song. As soon an the fuzzy lead guitar and drums kick in, my head is going up and down more than 100 times a minute. Damn I love this song.
This song is raw, pure grunge energy. I hear this song was made by Kurt while ontour in 89' with the band ''Tad'',the singer's dirahea problems gave Kurt the idea to make the song ''Immodium'' later changed to ''Breed'' I read that somewere before but its been awhile. Awesome song no doubt and my favorite from ''Nevermind''
I know this isn't really any of my business (and I would appreciate it if no one respond to me as an asshole), but I just have this feeling that people give Nirvana the "legendary status" due to Kurt blowing his brains out back in 1994. Don't get me wrong. I have both "Nevermind" and "In Utero," and I enjoy both those albums, but seriously, how many people were true Nirvana fans prior to Kurt's suicide? If Kurt was still alive, would he get that status? I know we'll never know, but just asking.
@nickelodeon8911 It's a fair point, definately. As you say, we'll never know (and as I was too young to know them when they were around I can only look at them with rose-tinted hindsight) but I don't see him having the legendary status he holds today - I'm sure there's got to be a fair few people out there who hold their opinion of him through not wanting to think ill of the dead. Kickass band though, undeniably.
@nickelodeon8911 Why WOULDN'T he still have the legendary status? Him and three other bands started a revolution. He's an amazing musician. One of my favorite musicians of all time, all due to how well he plays and how he sings. He's unique.
@nickelodeon8911 Thats actually a good question. And my personal awnser is yes, and here's why... In september 24th 1991 the nevermind album was relesed, and on feb 3 1992 it when triple platnium, knocking back M J's Dangerous, numbers don't lie. If thats not enough, take a look at grundge socity, he took a trend that was laughed at by everybody and turned it into a fad, and became the icon for generation X. He was more then just a rock star, he was a leader he just didnt kno it
@nickelodeon8911 I do believe he would still have that status. Look at Dave Grohl that cats in his 40's and hes still drumming for a few different bands now and still the frontman for The Foo Fighters.
@nickelodeon8911 Actually, nirvana was extremely popular long before he killed himself. One of the reasons he killed himself was speculated to be the huge media attention that he couldn't handle.
@Max120997 you should really give the pixies a go if you like kurt's music. i was watching a documantary and im pretty sure he said they influenced his music greatly.
@nickelodeon8911 Well I guess I don't fall into this category, being born in '96. I loved Nirvana, and didn't know that Kurt was dead until about '06. I treated it as news, when like the entire world knew this.
@nickelodeon8911 but things go as they go, we can think about why we give nirvana a ledgendary status, and say its not because there actual tallent(if i get you right) but lots of people get happy by thinking this way, so for whatever reason it is, its the right thing.
@nickelodeon8911 I was born before he killed himself. I grew up listening to Nirvana. I grew up loving Nirvana. Did Kurt offing himself help get the band more well known? Perhaps, but like with many other bands, if there wasn't talent, then they would have been forgotten. I don't know, just my two cents.
@nickelodeon8911 I've known Nirvana for as long as i can remember, but I've only recently got into them well enough to find them one of my favorite bands (one of them). I don't think the suicide makes the band any more legendary or more iconic and i don't think it makes Kurt Cobain's character any better, but it does give most of the lyrics a more meaningful viewpoint. But i don't think it made the band any better, i loved his character you could relate to and how realistic he was, my opinion:)
@nickelodeon8911 I understand what you are saying but I can tell you what I experienced. Which I would assume you did not and that is not meant with disrespect. I am 42 now. When Nevermind came out it legitimized the angst of a generation and we had to be accepted now because of Kurt and Nirvana we were front and center. Before that all you heard about was Mariah and Jackson b.s. Kurt paved the way for a whole generation of bands and music, not just was he the frontman for Nirvana. IMO. Peace.
@nickelodeon8911i totally get where your coming from. it all depends. i was born in 93, but i still love their music, and if he was still alive i would definitly listen to any new stuff he put out. most people that listen now are either old fans or newer (stupider) kids who over-hype him in an attempt at being cool.
@nickelodeon8911 Nirvana were probably the biggest band in the world.it was a triumph for all the outsiders....there was loads of great music in the early 90's not just nirvana,,,honestly the 80's were just terrible.....so how many people were true nirvana fans ? millions ,my friend....nothing to do with kurt's death..that was shocking and sad..
@nickelodeon8911 I was born during the rise of nirvana, but when i started to get into rock music i was introduced to this band by a friend, and although i cant say i was a fan before kurt died, i would of been if i was born earlier.
@nickelodeon8911 same with many dead rockstars , like jimmorrison , dimebag darrel ,john bonham ,dimebag darrel , cliff burton etc etc . some people start giving the credit they deserve once they are dead
@nickelodeon8911 But yeah, Nirvana is legendary, but I think they're legends as a band. Nevermind was the best rock album of the 90's (and arguably, I don't think there's been anything better since), it changed everything.
@nickelodeon8911 I don't consider Nirvana Legendary, they are my favorite thing, but legends are nothing but fairy tales, and nirvana most certainly happened. I will admit that I really didn't have a good respect for Nirvana until I did start to learn some of the history behind it, but thats not just Kurts death, thats the history of his life, and of the bands life, not many people know that Ghrol was the forth drummer they had.
@nickelodeon8911 Death makes them immortable. Just like Hendrix, Joplin etc. great artists... They wouldn't necessarily have the legendary status they now have if they hadn't died tragically. Talent and tragedy seem to make a good couple.
@pelataanpa I dont believe that.. look at mccartney. I don't listen to any of his new stuff since the beatles yet I can't imagine my whole world consisting of the beatles without him. He is already dead to me I guess. But immortal in the beatles and their work. I think the same would have happened to kurt, jimi.. probably not joplin though. lol.
Since I was a year old in '94 I had no idea of any of that stuff. It was around sometime in 2006 I heard "smells like teen spirit" and I was in love with them since. They were the new Beatles (A bit better) so either way they were gonna become legendary. Too bad he isn't alive because we wouldn't have the crap music we have today (on the radio).
@nickelodeon8911 well I don't know why I feel the urge to respond to your comment but yeah.. .I just feel like I have to.
I was born a couple of months after Kurt suicided, so it's quite possible that I only know him because he killed himself, that was the part when Nirvanas popularity grew immensly,
Today I really like Nirvana songs, the emotion, the anger, the soul, the spirit simply everything and I feel sorry for not being able to hear Kurt sing in real life.
@InfernoImmortal I'm not exactly sure of the effect of Kurt's death either, it most certainly contributed to Nirvana's monumental success. But at the same time, in talking to people who were quite involved in the music scene back when Nevermind came out, there was still a sense that a new era had really come into being. While Nirvana weren't the first grunge group they were kind of the pinnacle of what grunge could mature to be, irrespective of Kurt's suicide.
@nickelodeon8911 I personally think of Nirvana as leaving an impression on people, rather than being legendary. Kurt's suicide added some sympathy fans, but the majority of Nirvana fans are those who enjoy them because the music is good. Kurt didn't focus on his words, he focused on how the song felt. And it was that focus that led to a really great and lasting sound.
@nickelodeon8911 I think Kurt still would have had a pretty large status due to the fact that he was a large personality. Not to say that his suicide didn't speed up and foster Nirvana's monumental record sales. The point is that while the financial success of the records may be bolstered by his suicide, the music is phenomenal and people who really like it would have found it either way.
@nickelodeon8911 I think you have a good point. Its tough to say but I like to think it woke people up to his great music. Its tragic that it might have taken his suicide to really show the impact of ''Nevermind'', However; I still like to think their was a huge amount of fans listing in 91.

@headmaster2983 i find that you have no reason to say whats REAL music or not im sure we listen to the same stuff but still if you dont like people calling your shit "gay" or "fake" then why do it to others and theres more mature ways of calling someone a low life fuck than calling them a faggot were not in 3rd grade ....hopefully....
Jdawg03031 1 month ago
@Jdawg03031 Oh sorry there's just something that had to be done about these fucking comments (my bad i meant to say "theres"), because "Im" so fed up about them. Just because you don't agree with my comment doesn't mean you have to bud in my opinion. So if I think he's a faggot in my world he's a faggot :D. Everybody's a critic. :)

@headmaster2983 "faggots" wow. how original. Come up with something less ignorant then moan about how this is real music and how much of a hipster you are.

i went to wal-mart to get this CD, and there was only one copy left. i took it and 3 seconds later, a middle aged man walks over and looks for the same CD and says "damn, out of stock" i had it in my hands and was in the middle of a decision, give it to him or keep it. i kept it, although i wanted thelp out a fellow rocker :3
