Miss Judy, I want to make my Mom something for Christmas but what can I make I'm new at this so it can't be really hard. And I only have Size 8 needles ! thank you so much!
whatever size needle your yarn calls for. I used an 8 with worsted weight yarn. just start at one end and increase till it's as wide as you want it. knit straight, then decrease at the other end.

I have a few questions for you Judy. First: How long is the headband? Second: At the widest part of the headband, how many stitches are there? Third: Instead of tying it together with the strings, would making buttonholes and fastening it with a button be okay? Thanks a lot!
You should make the headband as long and as wide as you want and, yes, you could do a buttonhole, but the headband will probably stretch with time. That's why I did the cords.
Just cast on one stitch, increase on every row till you have the stitches you want. Knit straight, then decrease to match the beginning. You can watch my video of HOW TO MAKE A POINTED EDGE SCARF to get the idea of what I'm saying.
My headband looks good except that the long sides curl under and the piece won't lie flat. Any idea why? What am I doing wrong at the end of the rows to make it curl. It looks like a long tube instead of being flat. I did make the flower and it turned out great!
did you use the garter stitch? that wouldn't curl. if you used stockinette stitch it will always curl. thanks for writing. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.
sorry, I thought you'd be able to follow what I said. Cast on and increase till it's wide enough, then knit till it's almost long enough and decrease to match the increase at the other end. You can watch my video on Pointed Edge Garter Stitch Scarf to see exactly how it's done.
And what should I make my Mom? :)
