i had it when i was young and i just wouldn't turn on and i miss it so much

and i got it to work on the internet it was so cool

i got the internet to work through USB

  • That was the first computer my parents ever bought for our house! Good memories. I was like... 8?

  • PUT LINUX ON IT!!!!!!!

  • gotta love the flower mouse icon...

  • I sell Dell Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 1GB RAM for $10 all day long, you should of called me haha

  • i got one of these and pimped it out.

  • i have 2 of them and the motherboard is bad

  • install linux, drop a raid card in it & hard drives to make a nice file server

  • THE ONE THAT WAS SIMILAR TO THAT ONE WAS AN XE734!!!!

  • a HP Pavilion was my first real computer back in those days. Before that I had an Commodore C64 ;)

  • Dude My dad bought this computer brand new when it came out in 2000 lol he still has it today 2012 and it still works flawlessly lol XD

  • @NotechRX7 My dad got a old Dell back in 1998 and it was working fine about 2 months ago in Nov its CPU Fan went out and killed it sad it died and I had it Maxed out

  • BTW i just got a 2.4 ghz 512 buss from the dump they let me have it for free im using it riht now lol =3-

  • i just have one thing to say old = gold!!! =3-

  • Convert it into a very robust custom built firewall/server for free. Open source software at pfsense.com. Not trying to spam everyone, but there are many usefull things to do with old computers.

  • That's just too awesome!!

    $ 8.00? seriously!?

  • Certainly boots up fast! Less clutter on computers in those days right?

  • Lol, a good use for these old computer is called Linux :D

  • I remember my dads Ex-Wife had that same model...Dude install win 98. XD ME blows.

  • 64mb ram? you can install windows xp :)

  • I know it's already been said but... now I know what happened to my HP... no srsly I lost it T_T

  • looks like my old one. you're welcome to it!

  • 100watt power suppply lmao

  • Why not get alienware its better faster and you know for a fact It won't crash on you because it would be new

  • I bet this is a SDram, before the ddr ram came out.. Ebay will get you a cheap very cheap upgrade ram... Im sure its fragmented which a defrag will speed up the HDD... It doesn't matter how much space is used up, only matters if its frag... New thermal paste on the cpu would help... So for an extra what 20 to 30 dollars off of ebay u get a pertty nice PC.. You can load any server os and have things run though it or use it as a gate way for your net :|...Linux

  • you never know, maybe theres a VOODOO graphics card in them

  • I have a computer very similar tothis one ,looks just like it but has winxp on it andit stillworks and I won't sell it for anything!! It just keeps running and running ,I had to take twist ties to the cooling fan as oneof the clamps broke ,then I went and bout a new fan for it and while I had it out put a pentium 4 chip in it ,Still keeps up pretty good with the one I just bought at Christmas!!

  • I remember those older hideous piles of crap. The worst one made was the XE783 (Walmart Xmas Bundle in 2000/2001). Celeron with 64MB of RAM running Windows ME. Lovely POS i810 chipset to go along with it. Horrible hardware combined with a horrible Operating System.

  • put xp on that

  • I have an (older) HP Pavilion 514x it still works, aside from a Hard Drive failure and the fact whenever you open it, you seem to unplug the CPU Fan. It still runs from a USB EHDD. Very useful as a Linux server.

  • Srry about the long post, what I'm left out is "even old computers, like my T23 laptop that doesn't even have a true graphics card (it has a pci "chip"), can be useful and valuable

  • i seen one on the side of the road the other day wet and smashed

  • @MrJuwillia wont work. trust me, i have a slightly diff model. cd loader crashes and kernel panics on it.

  • Recycle it, put the old girl out of her misery.

  • I find P4 dells next to dumpsters all the time..

  • I believe I have the same computer growing up. It was a fun computer except for the fact that McAfee's Guard Dog blocked 80% of the websites, even children's sites.

As of now, it sits in the garage. If I could, I'd run it and see how it's doing.

  • Hey Roadgeek, I have a Question. I have the same computer except it is a 6630. I know you don't have it anymore. But the Question is, Why don't mine make a beep when i start it up anymore? I have the BIOS Update.

  • I HAVE THAT SAME COMP!!! I bought it for 25$

  • good airflow lol

  • I had the same exact computer, still runs after 12 years even though it's in pieces right now

  • i use to have one of those

  • I have a 1980 toshibe computer with windows NT workstation and 95 on it. I got for 4.29

  • wats the CPU Speed?

  • I was just wondering if you like Apple products as well. You seem to love Microsoft Windows. But anyways, great find and awesome video! Thanks.

  • If I sold a computer, I would at least wipe the HDD and reinstall the OS (at least Windows 2000). And if it had low ram I would bump it up to at least 256mb.

  • wow.. 64mb of ram? I know its from 2000 but windows 98 and Me support a maximum of 1gb I was expecting something like that to have 256mb or 512mb

  • I found a Windos XP server at goodwill for $10.

    I didn't buy it sadly. :(

  • I also shop at Value Village and have bought 3 computers from them, all for under $10. Gotta love that place. Newest one I found there was a Dimension with a Pentium 4 @2.8ghz with a $4 price. Re-installed windows and runs like a champ.

  • I have a Pavilion XE734 that is very similar to yours

  • What is worse? Windows ME or Windows Vista? I subscribed b.t.w. ;-)

  • @19FD89

    Me is worse.

    98se is much better!

  • CRT Tvs

  • Start selling these on ebay. U have a good chance. Where i live there are only TVs and keyboards and junk

  • Holy crap i can get 2 of these for freeeeeeee!!!

  • 30 seconds of looking at your trunk was too much

  • You should talk to your local mom&pop PC shops, we throw stuff like that away all the time, nobody wants 'em. as for those that said use it as a server? i hope you get electric for free with your rent friends, as any use you can think of for those dinosaurs will not be worth the power they suck. you could drop in a plug PC and be using sub 10 watts, those things? not great on power usage, no low power states on those old CPUs.

  • Windows ME bleh, that will be fixed though... :)

  • Is that computer capable of running Windows XP Home Edition SP3?

  • I laughed when you saw the Windows ME logo. Hahaha!

  • Have you ever took apart a computer just because you wanted to, and then put it back together? I've been thinking of doing that with my old laptop

  • @Roadgeek I have the same cpu accept it's a laptop. it's a pavilion, designed for me, and made around 2000. its a pavilion N5240, HP

  • I have that same computer in my room, with Windows XP and Debian Linux on it. O.O

  • well if that harddrive is wierd mounted then u have to see how i mounted my hard drive in my pc :D

  • NOOOOOOOOOOO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to have a computer exactly like this one, except it was Windows 2000, and my parents used it for internet browsing back in 2004.

  • To all the people saying that they wouldn't take this computer even for free, there are a million things you could do with it, especially turning it into a home server, very useful for storing things or keeping network drives for storage, or a print server to keep the printers up and running.

  • @M5000thesdgversion

even if you had it as a printer server or network server, the electricity used will be wasteful. There are a lot better energy conservative server computers out there now.

  • @mclaine33 Yeah but anything to create convenience is going to cost a little, so if it's worth it to you, it could be used as such.

  • We call ME Mistake Edition

  • i had that same model PC, sadly it wouldnt boot up so we threw it out

  • If I saw a computer like that on the curb for free, I would pass.

  • @akaheman72 not me

  • Man, you do awesome videos!

  • What is a thrift store?

  • @Id1443890780 a place where you buy old stuff for cheap....

  • @Id1443890780 A place where you buy other people junk.

  • I bought an old gateway at a place called the chicken barn it's an antique store...well i got it for 35 bucks with windows xp and a intel pentium 4 processor and everything worked!

  • nice find man love your computer videos you sir just got another sunscriber

  • @Compaq0304-actually me is not as bad as some people say it is because alot of people still use it in very limited computers.

  • I know a computer shop that just throws working computers away at the back of the store, so i always go there when it's closed and take the computers with me :) it are mostly pentium 4's but i even had a pentium D with ddr2 ram once (i gave it away), they throw other things to away like working cellphone's, pc componements, and once i had a working lcd screen^^ (only lasted 1 year, but still^^)

  • Holy crap! This is the exact same one I had before... well, it died.

  • Windows ME SUCKS!!!

  • I thought that thrift stores don't sell computers.

  • Is ME better than 98

  • @shadow444222 No it's WAAY worse. In fact, ME is probably the worst OS of all time. ME always dumps memory and messes up. 98 is a really good OS.

  • @computerkid1416 thanks for letting me know that man.

  • I have a older version of that computer that I have gutted out and need to fix soon that ran 98se before the hdd died

  • Well it's still got Napster installed so there hasn't been a wipe since at least sometime back in 2001.I'd say it's the same install of windows that was on there when she got it back in 1999 or so.

  • Wow, computers that go for $8.00, and people that don't know how to restore their hard drives. That thrift store is the typical computer hacker's dream.. lol

  • I have a computer similar to this a HP Pavillion 6370Z... It was crazy to replace the floppy drive on that thing! I hope that you have better luck replacing any drives in your pc than what I did in mine! I'll make a video of it one day to show you. That's a good little pc! Does it take PC 100 RAM? I'll have to look for a Value Village in my area now!

  • That thrift store writes the prices the same way the "Unique" stores around here do, so they're probably run by the same company. Windows ME is okay if you don't load it up with too much crap, but tends to bog down and run low on memory if you install too many applications, because its extra graphical effects take up more memory than the plainer appearance of Windows 98.

  • Cool Find! I wish my local thrift stores had PCs. I'm eyeing a hot wheels one on eBay from 1999. I have an old emachine that has a hard drive mounted kind of like that. This one looks like a good candidate for Windows 2000, or maybe 98 if you can find the drivers.

  • cool man!!!!!

  • Nice find. It's not that often that you find a computer that new for $8. I bet if the goodwill I go to had a computer that old it would cost around $50.

  • @computerkid1416 I'm guessing who ever put the price tag on my HP knew NOTHING about computers! But it worked in my favor.

  • @computerkid1416 I found a Apple PowerMac G3 450MHz for $20

  • @computerkid1416 i know of a goodwill that sold the land and building then went across the street and tore down a closed restraunt and built a brand new store. the prices from close to open literally doubled. i stay out of goodwills because it seems more like a buisness than than something out help people save. like really really high yardsale prices

  • You should do a video of the software that is in the computer before you reformat it. Other then that, nice video. :D

  • @buggy715 I installed all the new OSes on a new 20GB hard drive. I saved the original so all I have to do is stick it back then. I'll try and do a video of that shortly.

  • Haha, nice. I haven't used a Windows ME in ages. I also like the way it looks. Pretty nifty for ~2000 if you ask me.
