Hi, i'm a bricklayer from Canada and i'm interested in knowing what types of connectors are mostly used in the U.S. and the U.K. regardless of construction type. Wooden, concrete, blocks walls... thank you guys.
English Bond, Flemish Bond is 1course strachers next course strecher and header, Hell yer i think i not mixed up with these two now :D Level 3 Diploma at college this year so i goto look out for this kinda stuff
What's the point of even laying frog bricks if your just going to lay them upside down? Why use a pointing trowel on a wall that size, Is the UK that hot you can't spread for more than one brick?
@unionbound if u build a house with london bricks the OLD way and us little compo then the house is 30% weaker, so the money u save on shit bricks u pay 4 in compo.... and as 4 the Trowel thats 1st think i said WTF?? i am english and my trowel is 11'' bigger the trowel bigger the money.
@bigbuilder1986 Im a union bricky from Canada. I use a 11'' trowel and love it i can spread so much at a time. But I do have to say that I have worked with someguys that use a 9'' and man they can spread like lighting with that little ass trowel but I think the bigger the better!
Unions are mostly mexican now why, where are the legal peoples of America? Just look at the make up of the unions now. Pushed out, forced out, harassed, fn bigger picture is racism towards Americans. Where is the loyality, patriotism?
Frog up? Frog down? How about banning London bricks. They're shit anyway, cost nearly double an ibstock and chip easily. Think about every blown wall you've seen and what they've got in common....that's right they're LBC! (tooled bradstone can fuck off too)
i have never seen a pig in my life, i really would like to see one though, it would be comical, my mate has seen one years ago the bricky who did it got sacked
it´s almost unheard of in modern brick construction.go back a hundred years or more when the whole construction was in brick and it was very common especially in internal walling.40 odd brickies all working different parts of the job mistakes were bound to happen.a lot of fasades ended up having a rendered finish.
its life mate it happens....seen loads..even done by blokes with 30 yrs experience each.... buildin game is shit full stop...ya working alongside drug addled loosers with no brain....
if you think you should fill every frog before laying to grind down you´ve got a screw loose.how spreading a lighter bed.thanks for those standard gauges i´d almost forgot them.
frog should never be upside down,if nhbc clock that you are in shit!i know it help s to grind down but truth be known if things are set out proper and you stay to gauge then you don't have to frog anything,if it's not a bwk measure you adjust gauge to suit i.e 2mm per course -or+.so on the the first lift of(for instance)23 course you could lose or gain 46mm!make up a guage rod to help these pricks who can't read a tape and you're good to go...it's called planning or setting out!!
thanks for the blatently obvious info.i think you should read the comments more carefully or at least sober before diving in there.nowhere did i advocate for for a frog down.you want try working in scandinavia brick skinning timber and concrete constructions where art of bumping and grinding is is truelly masterd.
to be honest i have never worked anywhere other than the uk,the comment wasn't aimed at you personally more a generalization of bwk, thought it may be helpful to others less informed!blatantly obvious it maybe but you yourself had"almost forgotten"standard gauge!as for being drunk or diving in if theres an error in what i said feel free to point it out!i know that the perfect work scenario is rare but surely good basics apply majority of the time?
"almost forgotten"i was being sarcastic you silly billy.god it feels great to have a free hand to point things out.your to easy so i´m off to point things out to someone else.
for those who have never worked in mainland europe.because of the type of construction ,the bricks and the mortar.itthe laying method is different.working out of a barrow or tub is easier and goes faster than if you were to use spots.the scaffold systems are designed for this.ít´s apples and pears.
why tap the brick with the trowel? no need to if you make good mud! use your fingers to position the brick and use the trowel to keep the bricks clean!
health and safety all the way now mate, soon it will be too dangerous to hold a trowel, ive just started a new site this week and the gaffer said that we are only allowed to use sthil saws if we MUST have to, supposedly the dust is a hazard WTF
takes ages, well it is me lol, started as labourer years back, now on the tools, but there's so much to learn and take it in,practice practice.and no theres no work here!!!
every vid i see of brickies across the ocean have there damm mudboards on the ground, wtf? save your back!!!! if your tender is to lazy to prop it up to proper height, kick his lazy ass down the road
Hi there, I'm not here to discuss skill or... you know, I love the background music so much. Can somebody tell me the title of the music embeded in this video. Isn't it great?
bricks are usually hollow to some extent for insulation purposes aren't they? Trapped air etc. The large white bricks I've seen used in Germany are full of tubular holes in one direction, e.g top to bottom. I'm only guessing though.
Tap, tap, tap, tap, lets hope he doesnt make it a career choice to lay bricks, tap, tap, tap, tap, Im talking about the so called brickie....tap, tap, tap, tap.
all trades take practice. amatures practice untill they get it right. professionals practice untill they cant get it wrong. as a former drywall hanger turned cabinet maker id have to say any trade out there takes practice to master.
@goat63able I never mentioned mastering anything. My first time hanging siding, installing soffit and facia, trusses, and shingles you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the work of a pro. When I watch people try to lay brick for the first time it's consistantly comical. It's more of an art than anything.
my former boss once said, "anyone can do it but not everyone can do it for a living." he also said,"if it was easy everyone would want to do it."
your work mighta looked ok when it was done but would ou have been able to make a living wage at the pace you were working at? ive come in to rescue a few homeowner specials in my time. part of being a pro is making it look easy
im working on the concrete on my old barn right now. youd be faster but my work still looks fine
@goat63able My original post says doing it right after reading a book is not going to happen. Where does doing something for a living have to come into play? BTW, I'm not a concrete guy, but I know my limits when pouring. All trowel trades are SKILLED trades, taking alot of time just to learn the motions of a trowel itself. My grandmother can pound a nail in. My daughter is 15 and can run a circular saw fine. Point is, this is a trade all itself. I've tried almost all.
just because your daughter can run circle saw it doesnt make her a carpenter. same for granny. can she frame stairs? how about a framing a dormer. just about all trades take some skill. for the years i was a drywaller i handled a hawk and trowel quite a few times and its like anything else you can read about it all you want but you only really learn thru on the job training.
if you want a real challenge try trim carpentry or furniture building. i do a lot of inlays in my work :)
@goat63able Congrats on your challenges :) Bottom line is you can get acceptable results in most fields being new to the game. Masonry is different.....Obviously, or you wouldn't be searching masonry vids, Lol.
