Wow, what a smart well-trained dog! I have a dog that is Chi mixed with min pin, and others. He's pretty smart too. He can sit, down, and fetch. But I'm working on shaking hands -- he keeps running away when I reach for his hand!
My dog will do all the tricks she knows, to get that treat. But I'm trying to treat knew ones, so I try to have the treat ready in hand or pocket, but soon as she knows I have it, it's hard to get her to focus on the new behavior I want, not the old ones that she's learned.
We have a min-chi mix, she's such an intelligent dog and has such a personality on her. She knows the basics, but when trying to teach knew tricks she sometimes gets distracted by treats. We try a mixture of praise, play, treats to reward her for desired behavior. But she LOVES, really LOVES treats, and is sometimes distracted by them, just by holding it in my hand. Getting her to remain calm can be a challenge. What are some methods to use for such an intelligent, spirited breed, when training?
my dog gets overly excited for treats as well. When he goes for the treats we tell him NO and to STAY...and try to calm him down. We give him a tiny piece of the treat and then go on to the trick. After he tastes the treat.. hes more than willing to do what it takes to get it, and he ends up doing the tricks we teach him. it is hard tho! we cant even say the word treat!
How did you teach roll over? can't seem to get my pin-chi to do it. so far he's learned sit, down, sit up, and we're working on stand and speak (he likes to bark at people outside so that's how i'm doing it). he has no desire to roll over though lol

oh shoot, did you lose your dog??? i found a dog in the pound that looked exactly like that and i have him now. hes the same breeds as this one and the same color!!!!!! His name is Mojo and the bark sounds exactle the same. Did you lose your dog???????
The hardest to teach was the speaking. I taught him by holding beef jerkey in my hand and not letting him have it.. kind of teasing him with it until he started to bark over and over... then i kept saying SPEAK SPEAK and i finally gave him the beef jerkey... from there, every time i told him to speak, he remembered that it got him the beef jerkey and now he speaks like a pro. Just keep workin with your dog.. you have to have patience
also did your dog have pups cause my dog isn't as old as yours but found some in the pound that looked exactle like that. i have one to. looks exactle like that. did he have pups or no? just wondering cause this dog i ahve is bright also and seems to have been trained.

He must LOVE IT! Once I had the beef jerkey in my hand, he kept barking repeatedly.He was going crazy for it so everytime he barked, i would say "speak" until he finally learned. So he can sit, lay, Shake, roll over, play dead, Stand, speak, Spin lay in his bed, & sit pretty. Anything else we could teach him??
hey this is reeses28us but using my friend acount.. all mt dog can do is freeze! i say toy dog shes lookin like a stuffed animal
