I had a rare intermittent "limp mode" that can trigger 1-2 times per track day, and never happened on the street. Car is stock. code was "boost pressure too high". Took a while to diagnose, but turned out to be "not up to spec" vacuum pump causing boost spikes.
Thx for your comment. The camshafts have finally been replaced. Since then, I haven't be on the Ring again. Hopefully, I won't have the same problem next time...
USA Forums doesn't really tell you why. Its part of the MSD8x code to use power reduction based on oil & water temp. You might consider a bigger oil cooler & water cooler upgrade w/fan.
Oh another VANOS seal issue. You get code BMW 2A82 intake or 2A87 exhaust then it initiated code 3100 boost pressure deactivation. We have had a similar issue on a 135i at Homestead Florida track last 2 weeks ago.
Yes i know a friend that had similar problems, "safe mode" is also knows as "limp mode" :) . You might want to join e90post.com , it's a great forum for BMW owners ... give me an update is the situation changes. Cheers !
The car doesn't have starting up difficulties, neither loss of power. On the other hand, you cant push it hard, otherwise it puts itself in ''safe mode''. It's not very problematic in normal traffic, but much more on a circuit like the Nordschleife...
The car will be analysed tomorrow, I hope they will find out which kind of problem it is ! Do you know other drivers with equivalent problems ?

Does the car have problems starting up, loss of power ? . It's a known issue with 335i's , the high pressure fuel pump on them is really crap.
