I've grown to like this album a lot, but I can do without the goofy left-wing politics in some of the songs. (Put out The Fire, I'm lookin' at you...)
the sound of the synth is very similar to Axel F... I think. Not the melody, the sound. If this song had appeared in Beverly Hills Cop while showing Eddie Murphy driving his car at night going to a party, it would've been a huge success.
"ATTENTION all Queen fans,On September 5th, Freddie's birthday, we will be watching Bohemian Rhapsody repeatedly all day to boost its view count up to at the least 700,000,000 views. You don’t even have to listen to it. You can just keep playing the video back to back all the way through without sound. We’re doing this to compete with Justin Bieber's garbage music videos & to make Queen be heard across Youtube. Copy& Paste this across all Queen videos. Spread the word!
This is probably the best of their dance/funk songs, for what that's worth, if only because it maintains a foot in the rock camp. Imagine if Dancer was recorded with rock instruments in the style of, say, Fight From The Inside. It would have absolutely thundered.
Freddie and the lads never fail to amaze me with the stuff they come up with! Is it any wonder Queen are rated as one of the best bands in the world... EVER!! This track batters and bounces its way along in typical Queen fashion. Name me ONE band as diverse and as musically inventive as Queen? No? Thought not!! .... Fekkin love 'em!
The reason it makes more sense....... If you ever danced all night and then just wanted to dance the next day, then it would make sense to be woken in the evening ! Therefore it "says" something !
If you have to be woken in the morning, well that wouldn't mean anything ! Anybody might want to be woken in the morning for any reason! It's not poetic or comical and doesn't say anything !!!
What evidence is there to support the claim that Hot Space had any influence on Michael Jackson??? The fact that Hot Space was released six months prior to Thriller does not establish a CAUSAL link. Besides, Jackson started recording Thriller BEFORE Hot Space was released. Also, Jackson was making dance music long before Queen did.
I'm a huge Queen fan, but I refuse to engage in historical revisionism to defend an album that bombed commercially.
@duhg "Michael Jackson, who was close friends with the band during the time, later cited Hot Space as a building block for his own blockbuster album Thriller."--Wikipedia
@clintonearlwalker I've seen that Wikipedia entry and I'm not impressed. Notice that it has no citation or other verification. It would be great if Jackson did give such a nice compliment to Queen, but I don't see any real evidence that he did. If someone can find it, I'll tip my hat. Until then, I'm inclined to think that the idea that Michael Jackson's Thriller was influenced by Queen's Hot Space is an urban legend perpetuated by Queen fans.
@duhg That's a possibility, I've heard other people complain about the veracity of Wikipedia, I've used it many times for several years and never had 1 single problem. However, that is the only source I've seen combining "Thriller" and "Hot Space", of course that is only source I've looked for. My sister had "Thriller", I still have "Hot Space", I never noticed any connection. I may look and see if there is any more sources of this "urban legend", a Queen site, or a Jackson site. Cheers!!
@witnessthisable I'm sorry, but on the one hand I'm from Germany and therefore fluent in german and on the other hand how does it make sense to make someone in the evening (unless you have a very bad jet lag and with Queen coming from the UK, they shouldn't have such a jet lag in Germany)...
I know that most ppl said that hot space is not that good, but its actually one of my favourite album! I guess i love heavy sound of bass and the funky feeling....
If this was a michael jackson song, it would be played constantly on the radio and be incredibly popular now. Its a good song, not one of my favourites. Probrably the most funky queen songs and it was a very brave transition which i believed worked.

It's therefore quite funny to say "good evening would you like to be woken".
The alternative wouldn't be funny at all! And Freddie did have a sense of humour.
Such things are not put into recordings without some significance.......
Does this answer your question ?
