It's funny to see how rumors spread about such games, rumors based on superficial observations and frenetic repetitions by people who don't know anything about the main subject. If you think Bokosuka Wars is a shitty game, the only thing it means is that you didn't even tried to understand how it works or don't give a shit about it ... so why should you share your stupid thoughts ? Wake up guys, you're not the AVGN and your chain of swear words don't make anybody laugh except yourselves.

As hard as it may be to believe, this was a revolutionary game back in 1983. It pretty much laid the foundations for several different genres: the action RPG, strategy RPG, real-time strategy, tower defense, and Dota. Our favourite RPGs wouldn't exist without it.

It was big in Japan back in 1983, but arrived in the West some 25 years too late. Also, let's not forget 1983 was the year of crappy games like E.T., so Bokosuka Wars must have looked like a masterpiece in comparison back in the days.

"Bokosuka" means "burbling nonsense", so yes, this is a burbling nonsense wars. Anyway. "Wow" is an expression of shock, which can be either positive or negative.

I like "Wow! You Lose!" much better than "GAME OVER" to end games. In fact, the Friday the 13th counselor Game Over screen still gives me nightmares. I have a major problem with Bokosuka Wars: NO WARNING of death before being told "YOU LOSE!" The flashing B and swords denote a battle in which the computer will determine the outcome. In all battles, one side must die, and who dies is mostly randomly determined. All luck, no skill. What a really bad game.
