  • Who said Superman needed air? The villain 'thought' he needed air.

  • He is trapped, he can breath in the bubble

  • Everybody does know the reason he cant breathe is because the bubble is made of kryptonite

  • This isn't a blooper, superman does need air. However, his lung capacity is so high he can hold his breath for extremely long periods of time. Superman 4 with them fighting in space was horrible; cool but horrible. Because of his molecular density, the vacuum of space does not effect him like if a human was directly exposed which would cause the air to be sucked from their body. And there is your nerd science moment brought you buy Zeta Studios.

  • it sucks because it's superman 3 and everything is horrible "let's see how long he can carry on without any air"? try ABOUT A WEEK you ugly gender non-specific pathetic excuse for a movie villain.

  • Check out Superman IV. Not only does the vacuum of space not apply, but apparently there is oxygen, wind, and best of all GRAVITY! I was so pissed!

  • Why does Superman insist on standing around bullshitting with the bad guys until they hand him his ass? Just fly in at bullet speed, punch their little heads off and call it a day.

  • @RichYan33 Which was the actual problem with this movie. Superman was a wuss.

  • Where was the blooper

  • @Frankie212009 Superman doesn't need to breathe oxygen because he can fly and survive in outer space. He should be able to handle that bubble.

  • lol Superman suffocates in a bubble but he's always flying through space smiling and shit.

  • Technically, Green K doesn't take away his powers. It poisons him. His heat vision should work fine, assuming he could muster up the strength to use it. I doubt the writers put that much attention to detail in, but it's not an error.

  • Comment removed

  • Script error, but not a blooper. Wrong word.

  • He wasn't suffocating. Just because the villain didn't understand Superman didn't need air doesn't mean the writers didn't.

He struggled and got out because he... needed out.

  • There is another blooper in this scene, Pause the video @ 1:04 & then take a look on the right side of his briefs. You can actually see the harness that is holding him up sticking out of his briefs. Then press play, can still see it when the camera tilts up. Also, if you watch the actual DVD on a clear enough TV, you can also see the actual wires. Matter of fact, there are A LOT of scenes throughout this entire film where the wires are very visible.

  • Here is another scene where the wires are visible:

    youtube.com/watch?v=kGu_zr-0k9A&feature=related

You can't see it on here, b/c of the quality, I'm just posting it so you all can use it as a reference when you watch it on DVD. Right after the fireman says "My god their trapped" Supes takes off & that's where you can really see the wires on both sides of him.It seems as if, A) they didn't have enough $ to "paint" them out, or B) were just outright lazy. Can also see wires in part 4

  • I'm sorry, but It wasn't allowing me to post the link, so obviously just add w w w . in front of that URL above

  • I don't think it was a script error, as much as all of these characters are written as morons. Just a really poor script and story. Really embarrassing to watch.

  • the computer scanned his anotomy for possible weaknessess and found that a kryptonite bubble would would kill him,,, and yest he does need to breath but he can hold his breath for a very long time,,,, if you watched superman often you would know this.lol look at me talking like he is real.lol but error denied, fail.

  • Its not a blooper. They didnt give him a chance to breathe in. Duh.

  • Let's try to remember, the computer doing all this was built in the 80's. Can anyone name a computer from those days that wasn't total crap one way or another?

  • @0g0dn0 if the machine was running Windows Vista Superman wouldn't need to bother turning up.

  • Why superman just walks in instead of superspeeding in or crashing through the rock etc and taking them all down always remains a mystery to me!!

  • @TheDevinus that would mean personally would kill 3 human beings.

  • All of you need to watch Superman 3 again. It was not a script error nor a kryptonite bubble. it was just a field placed around him to cut off his air.Superman can hold his breath longer than humans tghat why he can fly in outerspace. Also Gus was being used to kill Superman he did not want to do so. And Clack had sex with Lois (Superman 2) Lana was his childhood crush ofcourse he wanted to hit that.

  • @RheNate Thank you. Superman 3 catches more flack than it deserves IMO.

Bad Superman movie? See Superman Returns.

Cheesy Superman movie? See Superman 4.

Superman movie that tells a comic book style story that is overall a fun popcorn movie? Superman 3.

  • @loneproducer

Superman Returns is way,way better than Superman IV.

Superman IV is the worst superman movie ever, and 2nd only to Batman and Robin for worst Superhero movie ever.

  • I never understood why Superman let Gus Gorman free at the end instead of putting him in jail.

  • Yeah, I spotted this error even as a kid when this was on TV when I was very young. It's pretty damning, seeing as he flies in space fairly often throughout the movies.

  • Oh, and Richard Pryor LITERALLY handed Superman kryptonite earlier in the movie and in this one he was all sad because "he doesn't want to kill Superman".

  • Oh, it's from Superman III. Big shock.

  • Blonde Bimbo next to Richard Pryor: Black man's kryptonite.

  • @jcali619 yeah because she 's not dumb just wanted that big dick the black man and the blonde bimbo got good credit

  • That ugly evil woman didn't know he can fly in space...

  • Still haven't changed the title of your video? ...Typical of people like you. Instead of helping others, all you want to do is help yourself.

  • So he can block a bullet with his eye, punch through metal, and fly, but he freaks the hell out when you put him in a cellophane pouch.

  • ....nno shit he cant live without air. he's a carbon based lifeform and has lungs. did ya think they were just for show. that's right, i brought real science into this.

  • Another script error,.. he can take heaps of punishment at the hands of Zod's crew but can't fight his way out of a plastic bag,.. :P

  • this was the worst superman movie ever made, even worse than superman returns. almost singlehandedly killed the franchise.

  • you, quite obviously, havent seen superman 4.

  • IT IS NOT A BLOOPER!!! HOW MANY TIMES DO PEOPLE ON HERE NEED TO TELL YOU. A BLOOPER IS AN ACCIDENTAL MISTAKE, THIS IS A PLOT HOLE OR BETTER YET A SLIGHT OVERSIGHT THAT FAN BOYS WITH NOTHING ELSE TO DO CAN NITPICK FOREVER...!!!!!!!!!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

  • i was about to thumb up this video as per the title it sounded logical and i was going to commend u.

but when the video ended, i finally realized technically speaking you really dont see superman struggling for "AIR", you assume he is but maybe he is panicking for being confined.

    and i mean technically speaking.

sorry for ruining your video though

  • That's not a blooper. That's a plot hole.

  • You all really funny analyzing supe! If it was a kryptonite bubble, he'd be dead. Green kills him. Red makes him act funny, and I forget what the gold did to him. He doesn't need air because whole comic books took place out in space. He once picked up a shallow frozen lake by the edge. and the ice didn't break! Lois got knocked up by him, and he ain't even human! He could get any creature pregnant. He's superman.

  • @conax133 gold kryptonite takes superman's powers away permanently. obviously it is the rarest form of kryptonite.

  • @conax133 Red is different every time. Gold takes away his powers. Blue helps him

  • What I noticed is that nobody actually said that he needed air. The scientists assumed that he wouldn't last without it.

  • @llirbwerdnadivad That woman wasn't a scientist. She was just up there at the computer.

  • @CaptainArrrgh I didn't see the movie, myself, so I wouldn't know...thanks for the correction. :)

  • Yeah, this even made me go what? when I was a kid. Probally not the best scene for nitpicky Superman fans.

  • Okay, you guys calling this a blooper don't know much about Superman. He can survive holding his breath for around 20 minutes. The kryptonite bubble saps his strength so it probably brings down that ability to normal human levels too. As for him walking on moon you guys realize of course he can fly at near speed of light so a trip to the moon should only take a minute or 2 tops. He doesn't fly that fast on earth cause it would incinerate everything near him from friction

  • @DougMcHead Almost right, except if it was a kryptonite bubble he would not have been able to use the heat beam from his eyes.

  • If superman can breathe in outerspace which has no air a silly plastic shouldn't kill him. How ridiculous!

  • @Hondalover3000 Actually, when in space, he is strong enough to pull in the small and distant oxygen particals that are there. In Superman cannon, space isn't totally empty.

  • invisible my butt

  • uhmm superman does breath it says it in the comics but he normally holds his breath which the comics say he can do for a very long time so if he didnt get a chance to hold it then maybe but im going to go with NO

  • tbf, how does this woman know he can survive without air? he doesn't exactly look like he's struggling to do anything more than get out of the force field.

  • Plastic > Kryptonite

  • The whole movie was a blooper.

  • the air had kryptonite LMAOOOOOOOOOO xD lol wtf ??? good remark

  • Well actually its the bad guys that say he can't live without air. When he pops the bubble, he just lands and stands there. he doesnt fall gasping for air or weakened in any measure. And I don't think at this point the computer has scanned him yet for his weakness. Hard to remember having only that little clip to go from.

  • This movie...is ridiculous. "I don't know you, lady." Yes. Very Superman. Not.

  • jeepers creepers! this kyrptonite bubble impairs my powers, and i can't breath! must.... use.... heat..... vision.....which......is.....also.....impaired.....by.......bubble!

  • @MeTaLdUdE02 Glad I wasn't the only one who picked up on that!

  • The whole movie was a blooper ! ! !

  • It was a kryptonite bubble blown by a machine that can detect anyones weakness... dont you people read the bible?

  • @cruiserweight77 LOLOL

  • @cruiserweight77 Except if it was a kryptonite bubble he would not have been able to use the heat beam from his eyes.

  • @kezcooke Actually, he can still use his powers when near Kryptonite. They're just weaker.

  • @llirbwerdnadivad After just having watched the original Superman, I think we are finding convenient excuses for this oopsy. Any other time that I've seen Superman react to kryptonite, it has been a very abrupt loss of power - he was stumbling around all over the place trying to avoid Lex putting the lump around his neck - if we went with the 'it only makes him weaker' he would have still been able to fight Lex off with his 'beams'.

  • @kezcooke lol...good point.

  • @llirbwerdnadivad it depends how close he is to the kryptonite, if he's within a few feet he can barely move a finger, and can't use powers at all

  • @Livebymediebyme Well, I'm not an expert on Superman, so I'm going to assume you're right. I've only seen the first and second movies and Superman Returns.

  • @cruiserweight77 yeah, it says so in Revelations look it up people. lol

  • @cruiserweight77 the bible says that? lol

  • I don't think it was the air problem it was because he trying to get out of the bubble or whatever that was

  • he can walk in space and on the moon because he can hold his breath for extreme amounts of time!!!

  • @bluzier88 How exactly does one "walk" in space?

  • @AwesomeHackTutorials By moon walking of course. Micheal Jackson was very adept at it.

  • maybe it's a special kind of bag that drains air off air from him and trust me even the strongest person can't tear a bag if he can't grip it properly that's why he used laser beams...

  • this is why Batman is better

  • if he can move faster than a speeding bullet..surly he could dodge a shitty £10 disco light ..and use his heat vision to heat up the platform and melt the fucktards .

  • I don't think it was that he couldn't breathe, it was just him wanting to get out and of course he could pop it, he figured just use his heat vision and it worked.

  • A big computer... think he's compensating?

  • I wish I was Superman, then I'd acctually use my powers! wha's the problem with no air, he can breath in space, geez, this guy is a moron!

  • What's the problem here exactly? Superman struggled to break the bubble... but he broke it. The villains (who had been BADLY mistaken about everything up to this point) ASSUMED he'd die without oxygen but nothing about Superman's actions or dialogue support that. In fact, the minute he's free, he's ready for action. He doesn't even need to catch his breath!

The movie arguably has problems but nothing specific in this sequence indicates the bubble was anything but a minor nuisance to Superman.

  • And in Superman 2, he can talk in space to 2 Russian cosmonauts who apparently don't need pressure suits or oxygen to live.

  • big mistake also is that Kla-el doesen't need to rely on oxegen!!!

  • I lost all respect for Superman after he had "relations" with that lady, and she was still able to walk the next day.

  • @GradyBaby13 I suppose because he was super tender....

  • This whole script was a major error. It's a Richard Pryor comedy also starring for some reason Christopher Reeve as Superman.

  • It wasnt the same type of movie as the first two but the movie was actually good on its own merits

  • @blaq7427 Maybe if you wanted to see Superman The Comedy starring Richard Pryor. It was so bad that Superman IV's budget was slashed and they settled for terrible special effects.

Elements of the movie were OK,but overall the movie was an abomination.

  • @mrsparkle001 You just think its bad because it isnt like the first two and it has become popular to bash it but judged by its own merits it was very enjoyable. Besides its a comic book character it was never 100% serious anyway

  • @blaq7427 It's impossible to judge it on it's own merits. It's a sequel to two fantastic classics, and the first one was pretty serious for a comic book character. It's why it's so beloved. Batman and Robin, or the one with Mr. Freeze, is the same way. You had the first with Jack Nicholson and it was great, then it just went downhill.

They screwed the pooch with the 3rd, so bad that the 4th, which I consider a better story, had terrible effects and failed.

  • @mrsparkle001 its not impossible if you never saw the first two

  • @blaq7427 If that means you, I implore you to watch the first and second one! You will see what I mean here. Be aware that the 2nd one has some oddly placed comedy due to the switching of directors, but it's still a fantastic film. Zod is one of my top movie villains of all time, probably in my top 3.

  • @mrsparkle001 The first one had comedy too so what ? The 3rd is a good movie but it is just not the same type of movie

  • @mrsparkle001 plus the first one made superman too powerful if he can turn back time then why fight crime at all just do a few laps around the earth

  • @blaq7427 That's pretty much the one major criticism I have of the movie.

  • @mrsparkle001 The first one was directed by one of the best Directors there is, but the producers and he, didn't get along. They got another guy who only did comedies to direct for them 2 and 3, but the actors and other people resented the producers too, so they started being dropped as much as possible. The 4th one was done by a different company and mostly Chris Reeve kept that one going, but Cannon went under before it was done

  • I do wonder, given the video tape that lead him there seemed to be addressed to "Superprick" (No you've decided to show your true colours), where they planing on killing him while they thought he was still in "Dick mode"

  • This movie was so bad on so many levels.

  • That invisible shield didn't look too invisible...

  • This movie sucks so hard.

  • "You coulda fooled me, Mister".

Even when being sarcastic, Supes is still the overgrown boy scout.

  • Well he shouldn't be able to fly to the moon, that is for sure. But the outer earth atmosphere has just enough oxygen for Superman since his lung are way more powerful. It's all just a matter of air pressure.

But the "bubble" is presumably a vacuum without any air. That's completely different.

  • @hankaaron1961 Touché - Love the geek speak.

  • Superman III: Superman vs Giant Computer

  • @JoshChadwick im going out on a limb here but i think this computer is supposed to be brainiac...yes i know how hard that sucks but i actually do think thats what the supercomputer was supposed to be in this movie. i dont get it though whats the blooper in this video?

  • No, see, let me explain. Superman DOES in fact need air to live, just like humans. He only has an amazing ability to hold his breath due to the fact that he has super lungs! This is evident when we see him use his super breath! Therefore, when he is about to fly in space or swim in the ocean, he takes and nice big deep breath and doesn't let it out until he gets back. In this case, he was surprised and didn't have a chance to take a deep breath, which it why he was then struggling for air.

  • @mrderekevan Yes, that's probably correct. He can take in such enormous amounts of air that he can probably live on one breath for days or possibly even weeks. Just as Zod and his two henchmen/woman were blowing all the cars around in the Metropolis fight scene for several minutes, creating hurricane force winds and beyond all on one breath

  • Actually, if this movie was done today, this wouldn't be a blooper because the modern version of Superman, as shown in the current comic books and "Superman the Animated Series" need to wear a special suit for space travel.

  • Well, the plastic S that he used in Superman 2 was just about as effective as that...

  • Kryptonians clearly have trouble with latex projectiles.

  • @Sage80 Hahaha everyone's a fukkn comedian!!

  • 0:30

"instead of humping others, all you want to do is hump yourselves"

I know that not it, but lol anyway.

  • yeah but come on...the whole film's an error. Superman going up against a computer. It's stupid. The film makers new that not having any air was a contradiction but they didn't give a fuck. Most film makers at this level know what they are doing and pitch a film to a certain audience with a certain tone. They didn't give a shit, they were making a Richard Pryor vehicle film. The error isn't any one moment, but the whole film.

  • @userpube they should have stopped at Superman 2.

  • The reason he can go out into space without a pressure suit and air is because his body and lungs are far more advanced than ours. If you read the comic books he's able to hold is breath with air frozen in his lungs for a long time that's why it seems he breaths in space but he doesn't. Superman has his limits just like we do and also it's a movie it's made up in a movie you can do anything that why they call it fantasy.

  • Well, if someone is nearly invulnerable AND smart, they are way too formidable. I think Reeve's Superman was smart. He just let kryptonite slip his mind. It's the old 'pride comes before a fall' story and I can forgive any movie hero for being a little forgetful. That's actually something that makes him heroic. He knows he has this one deadly weakness and he can't protect against it all the time. He has to go to Luthor's lair anyway, or people will die.

  • It's not really a blooper if the attackers think he can live without air, whether he actually can or not.

  • You know, I never actually noticed this because suffocating without air makes sense. Those scenes of Superman in space, General Zod and friends standing around chatting like there's air on the moon, giant chunks of Superman 4 with him fighting the Nuclear Man....that's the stuff that always bugged me.

  • @williamlaughs

Yes, the first four Superman movies ignored that little detail... or they hadn't thought of it yet. Superman actually does need a pressure suit to travel for prolonged periods of time in space. When he is flying without one, he has to hold his breath, which he can do for a lot longer than a human.

  • @Elfrunner People always say his one weakness is Kryptonite. But it's just because of lazy writing that this has become accepted. Remember, in the 50s comics had to be extra clean because of the new comics code. It wasn't all bad. Superman thrived in the 50s and these movies built on that mythology. Anyway, you have to keep what's good about the character but have some reality so you can relate to it. For me, Christopher Reeve's acting went a long way to achieving that anyway.

  • @williamlaughs

Well, Kryptonite is a quick way to take him down. Every other way takes much longer. :P You could always remove his air or starve him or hide him from the yellow sun and he would be doomed. The green rocks just do it all faster. But then again, magic can harm Superman, too. And it can do it expediently.

  • @Elfrunner I remember a comic where Luthor used a red sun beam to weaken him. And in the comic All Star Superman he actually gets a lethal dose of yellow sun radiation that overloads his cells. So I think radiation, not just from kryptonite, can hurt him in extreme doses. And I've always thought that while Superman would have a strong immune system, that he might be susceptible to alien disease. Consider that in the Superman universe new aliens and alien objects can show up at anytime.

  • @williamlaughs

In The Death of Superman, he mentioned to Emil Hamilton that he felt under the weather after being almost ground zero of a nuclear explosion. So while he could survive it, it still harmed him. And then in The Dark Knight Returns, it actually showed Superman caught in a nuclear blast that nearly killed him. He used the stored sunlight in a flower to save himself.

  • @Elfrunner I think part of the issue with Superman is that it's all or nothing for some writers. For the first three quarters of the story he has to be the Superman people expect, doing huge things easily and at super-speed. And in the last act he has to nearly die from some trick. I don't mind it so much if the movie is good. And from what I hear, the next Superman film is going to change that. It's a bit risky. But I guess that's the point.

  • @williamlaughs

I think they ought to give Superman some credit in these outings. He's smart and shouldn't be easily tricked by Lex Luthor or anyone else. It's like the writers imagine Superman should rely solely on his strength to solve problems and not his mind. In Superman Returns, Lex said, "Didn't your father ever teach you to look before you leap?" This is so true! He should look before he leaps! If they insist on harming him, make sure it's a smart method and not for Superman's blunders.

  • >Invisible shield label on the weapon

    >Sparkling green cumshot the size of a horse

And the oxygen thing is what everyone notices?

  • He wasn't dying because of lack of air. It was keeping him captive and in peril of the kryptonite.

  • "He can fly in space and walk on the Earth's Moon without a pressure suit but can not live without air??! Major Script error!" not really the error here. the error is he can lift mountains, push planets back into orbit, but he can't pop a bubble? really?

  • @pirateburke86 Or fly so fast he can reverse time itself, why not do that in every movie, just reverse time and take out the bad guy before he strikes lol.

  • @pirateburke86

Yes, that too. Bubble too strong, but planet not too heavy.

  • @pirateburke86 Both are definite errors. Never really made sense. Oh well. Chalk it up to theatrical license. I still enjoy this film. :)

  • @pirateburke86 I LOL'd!

  • @pirateburke86 Kryptonite layered bubble...please pay attention to the movie. Guss designed this computer to find anyone's weakness and destroy them.

  • @IronManu77 exactly, you can even see the bubble is green. the machine obviously created a bubble with some sort of kryptonite material, so Superman is obviously going to be weak.

  • Comment removed

  • this looks like a best picture winner compared to superman 4

  • this part was bullshit! fucking bullshit!...superman can't breathe in that ....ok no problem

then he should stop fucking flying into space most of his spare times

  • This is NOT a blooper; this was a completely intentional 'tangential plot' loophole that was intended to be returned to in a later installment (illustrating the true clandestine nature of all superheroism) before Reeves' untimely accident precluded the possibility.

  • See, this is what happens when the Salkind brothers tell the talented Richard Donner to take off. Tragic.

  • Comment removed

  • Superman can fly into space for a certin amount of time cause he holds his breath (for a super long time?) Anyways the comic book lore sais this once the story line brought him into space he neede breathing equipment or his craft.

  • without any air??????? the guy flys in space u dumb bitch he dont need it!!!!

  • God I always thought the blonde was HOT!!!! I was a horny kid lol

  • Here is something I don't get... in the trailer they made it as if the computer turned superman eveil but in the actual movie falsely made kryptonite turned him evil... i don't get it

  • The real villan in this movie was supposed to be Brainiac but the twats scrapped it & put these morons in!

  • We were not really informed as to how that machine works. All we know is that a self taught computer whiz invented it, a greedy millionaire funded it and there you have it. It seems like non of the characters knew exactly how it worked. Except Richard Pryor. Awesome movie. I remeber seeing it when I was in my early teens, that robot lady scared the f@ck out of me.

  • @adamcampen Yeah, esp. since it can apparently figure out a person's weaknesses (though you'd think that'd be a waste of time since most humans are weakened by the same things - unless the supercomputer is going to generate a bottle of alcohol or a gram of cocaine or something) simply by scanning their physical presence...ridiculous.

I saw the film when I was six and the robot scared the shit out of me as well.

  • Comment removed

  • That bubble created around him was filled with Krpytonesium, it doesn't suck out air, it causes Superman's Lungs to go numb so he can't hold air nor did he have time to take in air before being encased. Let someone throw you in a pool of water before warning you and see how long you can hold your breath.

  • @adamcampen

That's honestly a brilliant idea but why isn't it explained in the movie then ?! Do we have to guess all that stuff ?

  • he can live without air but she did not know that so it is not a blooper or an error

  • Well in the movie they said this machine find ennmies weakness and as you all can see at first the bubble was green so probly Kryptonite ...

  • wheres the blooper?

  • dumbass superman u got heat vision

  • I don't think this counts as a blooper. Its just a script fuck up.

  • the whole film needs to be edited out

  • Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. He can't survive without air, but he can hold his breathe a long time, bout 1-2 hours if I remember the comic right. He certainly wouldn't have suffocated in 2 minutes. So a script error I guess but it was a crappy movie overall anyway compared to the first two.

  • this was back when computers didn't have a specific purpose

  • the only thing they can say which explains this problem is that the bubble was layered with kryptonite causing Superman difficulty in moving and breathing.

Superman 4 though was him going in space with a woman and her still breathing. Now that was unforgiveable.

  • @mugabesunny That is because Superman is surrounded by an invisible aura within which anyone can survive. No wonder women are attracted to him because he is in full and complete control of his own self.

  • @IronManu77 lol true. i guess he aura can cover the Superman 4 mistake. But you do wish if the people had bothered to put more care and attention, Superman 4 could have been a much better movie. I still find Superman 4 better than Superman 3 and Superman Returns as the anti nuclear message is as relevant today as it was then.
