  • I had a similar idea to all these designs for turbines mounted exterior to the car, but all turbine mounted systems that rely on wind created by forward motion from the engine is using energy to create energy. That worst part is, you don't get the same efficiency out of it. The only way this type of system will work is when you are traveling downhill and not applying gas. The drag created from the turbine will slow the car down to it's cruising speed, acting like a regenerative brake.

  • There it is again the perpetuum mobile. And there are still people believing in it. It is like believing in god: It just does not work.

  • @heinrich97

the car is standing still, so it generates energy and stacks it in a battery when you are away. when you come back you should be able to remove it and put it inside the car.

  • @CrapsRasta OK, that will work, but since it can only collect wind coming from the front and has such a small area, it will take weeks to collect even one kWh. And You won't be driving far with one kWh :)

  • @heinrich97 this works, this is NOT a perpetuum mobile!! and it was NOT created by God, but by man!

there are wind cars that drive against the wind with that technology! Of course with a lot bigger wind turbines.

see videos here on youtube on the "ventomobil" and others. This here just lowers the cost for ecectricity - but it woud work!!

  • the turbine would cause more drag on a car that is not areodynamic in the first place, dumb

  • Seems interesting . . Have you tried making some proto of this design to check the cons on field??

If interested let me know !! i can try to get it developed here !!

  • I'm sort of surprised a patent was granted since I have seen similair devices in the old newsreel black and white type from the 30's and 40's with the same type of mount and use.

  • it seems that the friction (drag) this device makes can at most only be equal to the energy it can make. So your factor in energy loss through the natural process of channeling and redirecting this energy, you always end up with less energy and thus its not effective. Commercial jets have a device like this but its used as an emergency back up power generator should the engines fail.

Regenerative brakes would be highly more efficient then a wind turbine
