  • i spend bout 30 min somewhere around there but i usualy just play fire fun on saturday i do enter tounaments sometimes

  • I was sent here by another friend of mine, and want to thank you for your input and ideas.

Regarding your general question about deck construction: I take days, if not weeks or months, to build (let alone, construct) a deck. I usually aim after an idea that friends and I agree on, and build something unique off of a base idea (like Tengu Plants). I'm struggling with consistency, but your deck construction ideas will come in handy!

  • @WiiAgent007 Thanks a lot! And I hope these videos can help out a little :).

  • haha i decked out a dark world the other day with a reaper and a d fii

  • @vongrimm09 Nice, musta felt great :).

  • Do you use Dueling Network? if so, what's your opinion on it? Do you use it to test potential decks or what?

  • @wafferz Yes, I use DN. I think that the player base is what ruins DN for many people, not DN itself. Once you get really high in rating, you get to play against competent players using Tier 1 decks, so the playtesting is actually useful. Actually, I'd say about half of my playtesting of my Scrap deck was on DN, although I did just play against friends I knew.

  • @TheSandTrap So, i saw the deck profile on the scrap deck and i noticed that you only used two scrap effect monsters in your deck. Compared to many scrap players, you stripped off almost all of the other monsters to just chimera and beast. Not only in my mind does it free up space in your deck for other useful cards, it brings it down to the essential components for a quick scrap dragon. How did manage to trim the fat and realize you only needed those two cards?

  • @wafferz It was easy; all of the other Scrap monsters really sucked! lol. They were just inconsistent and shitty overall vs the meta.

  • i take at least one week

  • @marton2356 Duly noted!

  • Straight as an arrow......to the knee? o.O

  • @DarkLordAce3 A knee is a possible target, yes, lol.

  • love the Skyrim music in the background XD.... had it paused? lol

    great vid bro!

  • @OblivianTy7 Yes indeed, and thanks!

  • @TheSandTrap haha I've done much the same lately. love all the content, definitely can't wait to see more!!!

  • @OblivianTy7 Glad to hear it :).

  • Must be nice

  • @chaoshexer96 O.o?

  • @thesandtrap wow you look pretty young, I wouldn't have guessed 26

  • @chaoshexer96 Indeed, I get that a lot.

  • Couple of things:

    1) i've recently started watching your videos and i enjoy them a lot, also i'm quite new in the game (started in april) so don't mock me if i say something stupid, btw good job on the vids :)

    2) debris thingy: do you put one in your side deck thinking that the opponent will side-out their maxx c-s?

    3) when making a deck i take a theme or a combo(s) i like i make a list of cards which would be good and test a 50-60 cards to see which suit well and which don't (last format i pla

  • @nemamrazmakusifri I asked a simular question to #2, because I thought of that too. It's on the other video. He said his opponents don't side that much.

  • @nemamrazmakusifri 1.) Thanks! Glad you like them.

2.) No, I do not. Since I'm running an original deck, players don't seem to know how to side against it. Most of them keep Maxx "C" in even though it's not very strong against my deck, so I wouldn't want to put in a Debris Dragon anyways.

    3.) Thanks for the feedback!

  • damn, youre married? how old are you?

  • @chaoshexer96 26 and happily married :).

  • LOL love that game to

  • @mark3561982 It's glitchy but addicting :).

  • Why did you not side royal decrees in your scraps

  • @Saggysacks6969 You mean for Nats? Because I used a lot of traps, because the meta didn't have many trap-heavy decks, because I liked my opponents setting traps so that I could abuse Scrap Dragon with them, etc.

  • @TheSandTrap Do you think you would side them in this format(like against tgs), if how many. Also what do you think you will be taking to nats this year

  • @Saggysacks6969 If you're watching my videos, then you should know better than to ask these kinda questions, silly! How I side depends not only on the meta (which doesn't feature many TGs), but also the deck I'm running, how useable Royal Decree is in other match-ups, etc. Regarding Nationals, 1.) I wouldn't say what I'd be using at Nationals for other people to find out, and 2.) I don't have a clear idea of what the meta would be like, seeing as there's going to be a new Banned List in March.

  • @TheSandTrap what do you think will be the most played at nats, plants and i will be running almost the same scrap build you had at nats

  • straight as an arrow to the knee:) don't know if you heard the guards in Skyrim say that yet

  • @TeamSTRIPEZ Not that variation, no lol. I've actually only heard one guard talk about taking an arrow to the knee so far.

  • your wife/gf is so cooooooool! First the maxx c vs venus video and now on here! just lovely

  • @SuperHemou She is indeed my lovely cutie pie :).

  • um , any deck any tourny, i scrap up cards i think hm this would be good. single out what i feel is inconsistent. make a deck as a raw, do a little test drawing and test plays. see the flaws and worst situations. see what ppl run, side in card ppl dont expect. so it isnt done in one time period itll be like 30 min here another hour their. any free time during the week. once averiaged out. maybe 4-5 hrs but i feel a deck is never complete so it never really endslike u said :)

  • @Romantictogepi Indeed, good sir! Thanks for the feedback.

  • are you still in TeamEndPhase?

  • @LilEpikBoii Hell no!

  • thats just for locals becouse there are not many ycs in the uk so very card to go to events

  • @harlaquin666 That sucks :(.

  • i love my zombie deck but im always changing thing in the deck. always on youtube for new ideas. new one is adding two genex crusher. what you think about that idea. seems that in my locals everyone is running whats most popular at that time. i like to play a deck that is fun and if that means i dont win all the time so be it. but i wouldnt want to run a underworld deck when 5 other people are running the same deck. same thing when sams were in and t.g. agents. next deck im building is x saber.

  • @slash4217 I used to be like that, focusing on only using original decks. But, I found that it usually meant winning less, and I didn't like that. It felt like my original decks were holding me back from greater success. So, now I only use original decks if I truly believe they are better than the rest of the decks and, thankfully, I've been able to come up with very competitive, original decks to play with.

  • nice pyamas pants!

  • @SuperHemou Thanks braaaah!

  • Deck constructing never stops ... unless you net deck ... I don't like to net deck so I take a good wile to construct my deck. It starts with a thought and progresses from there until it ether works or fails.

  • @KaibaJeremy1 Indeed! Thanks for the feedback.

  • @TheSandTrap np bro :D

  • i dont take a long time but what i do is build it and then tweak it around until i like it dueling with it. i think its a process and i dont really have a set time for building a deck but for me it usually depends on the type of deck and what i am trying to do with the deck. so ty and keep the videos coming (>**)><(SWagALIciOUs)

  • @Rav3nCain Same with me. Thanks for your input, and I will do my best to keep them coming :).

  • is having the inca tuners and sun in a stardust assault mode deck a good idea?

  • @kelechian I'm not sure. I haven't thought about if that kind of deck is strong against the current meta or not, how consistent it is, etc. What do you think?

  • it takes me 25 minutes

  • @MirageChicken95 Thanks for the feedback!

  • atleast 10 min checking out my comptishion

  • @megapro82 Checking out your what?

  • @TheSandTrap competition

  • Depends...If it is a new deck I will spends a few hours each day starting 2-3 days before the tournament tweaking and checking. An old deck (one that I have already played at tournaments) I will spend about 30 min or so the day before. However actually building a new deck will take me weeks to test/tweak (not net decking).

  • @AllThingsRift Thanks for the feedback!

  • deck seems like it auto lose to darkworld because its so slow

  • @SenorSupremo I admit that g1 is bad, but then again I think DW can sack any deck and win anyways, so I'm not too worried about that.

  • how do you feel this deck will do against inzecktors? what kind of changes might be made? -1 max c for 1 veiler?

  • @SenorSupremo I'm really not sure atm, need to playtest more!

  • its takes me forever to make a deck for a locals it just takes me like 10-15 minutes; for a regional ill say it takes me about 2-5 weeks just for the main deck for a ycs or sjc; it would take me about 2weeks to 2 months and i still cant decide like if i want a spirit reaper over a 3rd prison and little things like that bug me but i just say lets see how it goes and depending on the results i decide to change the deck or not

  • @SurprisinglingYGO Little tweaks like that are important but can also be fun trying to work through. Thanks for the feedback!

  • who's in the shower?

  • @preciousmrmrele Your mom!

  • Bro I'm so happy I checked out your channel it's amazing I like ur content and the way you Ask questions and interact with examples keep it up

Also I've been doing what u said before and it works good because you know what cards work and don't. F.e I was running Compuls in my Karakuri deck but I needed some more draw power so I added duality and put a piece of paper in the sleeve so i know if it was a Compuls in that specific situation

  • @DarkkINSTiNCT Thanks a lot! Hopefully my approach is really helping you guys. And that's a good way to remember the differences in your card choices while playtesting, good job!

  • I chronically mess up my main deck when I side in multiple cards for specific deck matshups.

  • @tcamp006 I'll address this issue in a future article!

  • When I build decks, there are 2 different time periods. If I want to try a deck from your video or YCS, it doesn't take long obviously. I do spend several hours trying to tweak the "net deck" to my style. When I try to build a theme deck it takes an average of 2 hours to think through the combos I want, to evaluate if the deck is accomplishing what I want, and to make card choices/changes. Maintaining deck synergy with the side deck is my biggest challenge and that takes weeks of play testing.

  • @tcamp006 I agree that it can be challenging to do correctly and will take time, but sounds like you're on the right track. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Good video. Chaos deck is good against Rabbit and Plants.

I have found that against DW it just gets pounded. Dark Smog hurts a lot and the DW swarms suck. Even with siding it is a poor matchup.

It is fun to play though

  • @tcamp006 How heavily do you side for DW? I admit that the g1 match-up can be bad, but g2/g3 are very winnable imo.

  • It takes me months to have a deck ready for regional. But that's the only time I get to play competitive. I don't go to locals because they are to far from my house. I play at my school but no one plays meta decks

  • @enagy5912 That sucks :(. If I had to choose between locals and bigger events, I'd prefer to have locals, so I feel your pain.

  • I try to keep my decks under construction for aslong as i have the deck. For me my deck are forever changing.

  • @Dirtywipeman Good!

  • Skyrim? Should have taken an arrow to the knee.

  • @JoseM2015 But then I would have stopped doing whatever career I was doing! I'd rather take an arrow to the face than to the knee.

  • i understood everything you said m8 :)

i spend a lot of hours testing my decks out, about 2-3 hours a day i would say

  • @teledadman2 I'm glad you understood, means I'm teaching things properly as opposed to just confusing everyone. Thanks for the feedback!

  • I use to spend hours on my deck when I first started out, but now I spend about 1 to 2 hours on it. Then I would be making tweaks here and there for about a week. My big problem was that I made so many teaks that when I was playing at the tournament I forgot what was actually in the deck and how the play style should be. By the way, what do you think about Dimensional fissure? It seems like my only counter to max c and veiler in Glads.

  • @yugiohtopmaker528 Maybe too much tweaking, lol. Or rather, tweaking too much right before a tournament. Dimensional Fissure's effectiveness depends on your deck, the meta you're playing it in, etc., so I'd need more information than that.

  • I don't go to locals and I don't have much in the way of resources (cards and money), so when I build a deck I'm tweaking it as I build it since I take forever to get the cards. But overall, if I'm preparing for a Regional I'll probably take around 2-3 days working on the deck then make last minute changes to my side.

But I have a question for you. Which is better in your opinion: Monster removal (to hand or deck) or monster destruction (to grave or RFG)?

  • @TheShoveler1887 As always, it depends on what deck you're playing, and the meta that you're playing it in. CEDs might be better for one deck/meta, or Prisons might be better. Just depends.

  • skyrim

  • I don't even play yugioh anymore and I still enjoy these videos. They just make me feel smarter overall.

  • @Brighttight Nice, glad I could help make you feel smarter! :)

  • Great Vid

  • @oconcrs Thanks! :)

  • 5 hours to 7 hours on mane 1 houre on exta and 10 minets for sid

  • @harlaquin666 Do you do that for every event (local/regional/ycs), or does it change depending on the tournament you're going to?

  • bill nye the sciance guy,, any one?'

  • @SmokyMcPot94 Wha?

  • I was going to get skyrim then I took an arrow to the knee

  • @MrAAMONDO I terrible tale, indeed.

  • Hey that first thing about Debris Dragon was my comment! <------- -_- Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • @GenzaiDandy If that's true, then thanks for the previous comment; I was able to use it for this video :).

  • you didn't take that arrow to the knee?

  • @MrAAMONDO No, thankfully not. Dodged that shit.

  • for a local it might take maybe a few hrs to put a deck together but when preparing for a regional event or higher i usually deck test for about week so i know the ins and outs of the deck and also the correct plays e.g when playing dark world i always have to consider the darkworld monster count in the deck throughout a match and able to drop around 11k damage in one turn so thats why it takes a bit of time to get comfortable with a deck for a big event

  • @DiamondGOYO Thanks for your feedback! And yes, I agree that it takes time to get super comfortable with a deck.

  • this is exactly what i needed to hear. im just getting back into the game and im having trouble with what cards to keep in and out of my deck. when i prepare for a locals ill prepare for probobally a few hours. a regional would be months and a ycs would be many months.

  • @TeamJewgioh Welcome back to Yugimans! I hope my videos can help you get right back into dueling shape. Thanks for the feedback!

  • @TheSandTrap thanks :D

  • I get to talk to you all the time Evan, but I really like your videos, your doing a great job. Honestly.

  • @rapedyourfan Thanks! I feel more motivated to make videos when I hear stuff like this :).

  • Deck Construction is most of what I do. I always try to be a little more innovative with my deck concepts so I try to see what is the most effective card choices. Testing of course is important so you can understand how the deck construction is doing as well as what kind of plays you can make and which ones you prefer in certain situations. So overall I feel Deck Construction is probably the most crucial for me so I spend probably half of my yugioh time with that and the other half playtesting

  • @GreatFailsMontana When you say half, how long exactly do you mean? For locals/regionals/YCS or Nats.

  • @TheSandTrap Well I've never actually been to a YCS or Nats. I just started playing competitively a year ago, but I do have two regional top 4's in that time. When I prepare for any event, I make sure to have roughly 10-15ish hours of both playtesting and deck construction time. That's probably low. I believe in order to be efffective at anything you need lots and lots of practice, but that's probably the music performance major influences.

  • @GreatFailsMontana Indeed! Thanks for your feedback.

  • @TheSandTrap Sorry I meant 10-15ish hours a week consistently.

  • i must say ive learnt a shit tonne of stuff from you man thanks very much

  • @EpicElectabuzz No problem! Hearing this kind of feedback motivates me to continue making videos, so thank you :).

  • when i went to ycs springs in 2011 i tested my deck for about 4 months before i took it and got raped with batterymen

  • @eman0011 That's a long time preparing for an event, nice! I'm sorry it didn't go so well for your Battermen deck.

  • Straight as an arrow in the knew........?

  • @TwilightsSonata In the knew? lol

  • I spent almost a year with my current scrap deck. I been playing with it since the release of it in DREV till now.

  • @ytxpikachu Wow, that sure is some dedication! At least you picked an awesome archetype to stick with ;).

  • evan> everyone.....................as for me for locals i usually just build a deck while im there and for regionals and ycs i spend probably more than a month to a month and a half

  • @slotsa22 Thanks for the feedback!

  • skyrim

  • I end up staying up all night doing mock duels and drawing mock hands and imagining the plays I would do depending on opening turn plays from popular decks. It gets out of hand lol

  • @aaronmakowski

    Me too! lol

  • @aaronmakowski Haha, I do that too!

  • Skyrim re-enactment? I thought it was Ghostbusters.

  • @YuGiOhCF so did i xD

  • @YuGiOhCF LOL.

  • Also, it does take different amounts of time depending upon which event. Locals, maybe 10-15 minutes before the event. Regionals, the week or two before. YCS/Nats, about a month minimum getting every single detail of the deck to be as perfect as possible.

  • @drummerjames91 Thanks for your feedback!

  • It takes me about 1hour to be satisfied with the decklist. And I probably test that deck for about 5-10hours before I think its small tournament ready.

  • @grabus45654 Is it the same amount of time for a regional or YCS/Nats?

  • Construction never stops for me. When I'm putting something together for the first time it will take a couple hours but I've never taken a deck to any tournament where I haven't come out of it wanting to make some kind of adjustment or deciding against an adjustment that I was thinking about going in. For example, 3 locals ago I took out an E-Con for a 2nd D. Prison, the one after I switched back and considered cutting Caius this week Caius is a definite stayer and I want to revamp my side deck.

  • @cleedow That's good that you continually try to make improvements to you deck. I do the same. And, personally, I enjoy thinking about the deck construction stuff anyways.

  • no that it's even worth side decking... but would u put in debris in a game two knowing they might side out max "c"? it's kinda pointless wasted side deck space but just wondering.

  • @TTSNUFF In my experience, people don't side out the Maxx "C"s all of the time, so I can't say that I'd bother siding Debris Dragon anyways.

  • THESANDTRAP will you marry me??? Looool best yugituber atm original, funny, good content, being yourself, you got it all man! Keep doing your thing!

  • @SuperHemou Don't forgot super sexy and well-endowed! ;). And no, I can't marry you, I already have a beautiful wife :).

  • I actually have a problem i think alot of people have i almost always just throw a deck together minutes before a tournament begins

  • @renouncedhero I think a lot of players have that problem, too. I'll cover this in a future video.

  • i spend about 1 and a half if i have time and still tweak it everyday for about 30 mins

  • @TeamFKO Thanks for your feedback!

  • tragoo tragodiya tragooodiea holy shit LOOOOLL

  • @Meateldog123 Haha yeah...I'm retarded.

  • you make me laugh so much ahh

  • @buska904 Thanks! :)

  • lol did I hear skyrim in the background?

  • @WoodsyMermaid Yes, yes you most certainly did. Good ear :).

  • @TheSandTrap Turtle beaches hear everything!

  • Nice video, but the 's' is silent in debris :P

  • @drummerjames91 I know, I'm retarded. At least I caught myself later on in the video.

  • 45 minutes just beacause my locals is a bit of a joke so i always try to make a new deck weekly... and i go about at least 2 hours for regionals and about 4 hours while driving to nats last year

  • @eldolceable Thanks for your feedback!

  • straight as an arrow to the knee?

  • @kendosoldier2 jajajajajaj nice

  • @kendosoldier2 As long as the arrow's straight, sure!

  • It sucks that we think alike, everyone thinks I copy everything you do :(

  • @dubkdad1 Maybe you are my long lost twin! But, if so, my mother has a lot of explaining to do...

  • Love your videos Evan

    full homo

  • @murkdd Full homo accepted...er, I mean rejected! Yeah, rejected obviously!!1!

  • Very interesting topic. I have been more recently been delving into the act of building and tweaking my own deck, so this is very important to me as a duelist.

  • @VenemousCat Glad to hear the video's relevant to you. I wouldn't want to make a video on a topic that you guys didn't care about.

  • BTW arrows bend ALOT In midair xD

  • @AldosYoDaddy ...Damnit. Someone figured out the truth...lol.

  • dude i wanna duel you!! Dueling network or real life? :D Where do you stay at man?

  • @AldosYoDaddy I live in Houston and go to the StrikeZone cash tournaments every weekend if you're in town.

  • first

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
