I have only ever broken one two cymbals in my life. One was my first ever cymbal- zildjian planet Z which lasted about 3 years and the other was a zht which lasted about a year so it was due to brake.
I broke a used paiste signature in less that a year (playing way too hard on stage and it may have had a microscopic crack when I got it) and I'd pay that every year vs having to play B8's for 3.5 lol.
@johndoe1027 Lol I dont know what the hell youre talking about bro Ive used Zildjian, Meinl, Paiste, Wuhan everything and Im telling you, the B8 16" Crash is still the prefered Crash for its price. Its cheap, durable and sounds awsome. Plus the B8 Pro ride and Hats sound great and theyre cheap so you dont have to constantly worry about leaving your set alone at a show and some prick walking off with your cymbals.
@RaininLuck Hey man if they sound good to you do it to death! Have you recorded with them? I dont' worry about my gear because when I'm done playing I load up right then. Then I buy a PBR so I don't have to worry about some prick walking off with my beer. ;-)
@johndoe1027 Nah im a guitarist but my band bought a drumset together and I was in charge of picking a dec one out. Drums are sick and i wish i was an awsome drummer
@Sentraman4 man same deal with me and those b8's arent bad hats i played mine since i was 8 and im 16 now and they only broke last year, since then ive gotten some k custom hybrids and theyre litterally worth every penny
I get annoyed by people who claim ZBTs break easily. Mine lasted me almost a year, and I wailed on it (18 Crash/Ride) like crazy. I know a year isn't the longest time, but they are pretty durable for beginner cymbals.
I was polishing them back then. Different sticks leave more marks than others too. In my experience white sticks leave tons of marks and some naturals do too.
Looks like my old 17" AAX Dark crash on the left and my 18" K Custom Fast Crash on the right. Two of the best sounding non-paiste sig crashes I've ever played on. I highly recommend both lines. I wish I had a K Custom 19" Fast but they don't make it.
BTW, the crashes are the highest cymbals in the frame. There are splashes between teh crashes and hats. The 17" AAX Dark is the left most cymbal felt you can see and you can see the bottom edge of the K on the 18" Fast at the top of the frame.
I've been trying to get my snare to sound like that. I have a Yamaha Rydeen, (or however you spell it), it still has the factory head on it so i guess thats a factor.
BAx: From my experience, that slappy "deep wood-ish" snare sound is more about tuning than anything. Stock heads -- single coated 1 ply top, clear snare bottom -- are just fine. But to get that sound, you actually have to do something which sounds completely backwards. Tune the bottom head really TIGHT, and the top head a lot more loose than you'd expect. Crank the bottom first, then detune the top until you get the timbre you want. And yes, just a touch of moon gel near the edge.
the dark sound is ok, like a little of a washing sound when the two cymbals are very much clanging together but it sounded very clean at 0:39- 0:50 :D
I didn't like the closed sound nearly as much as I did the slosh. I'm done with Zildjian and Sabian for the time being since Saluda can do anything they can do for less money.
all comes down to preference... i always try to stay open to different brands. paiste's pst5s are very rich bright cymbals, i think i might get a crash next
I agree. At one point I had 5 different brands of cymbals on my kit. I counted 17 different brands all together counting heads, hardware etc. I have since gone to custom cymbals and won't return any time soon.
meh, reminds me of planet Z 14" HHs. I like my saluda mist 13" Rock HHs much better. I dont like that tin sound when they are open. I like some trash/washy sound in place.
These sounded NOTHING like Planet Z's. I've played PZ's. They were very nice hats ,very silky wash. But they were definitely jazzy sounding and I don't play jazz anymore. I traded them for some Paiste Signature 13" dark crisps which I in turn traded for some 14" Saluda hats. Diamond top, glory bottom. Those haven't come in yet but if they sound half as good as these K's do then I'll be happy.
I had planet Z HHs for a year, i can hear it in the 13" Ks, of course the Ks have all the other tones that the PZs are missing.
The saluda diamonds are comparable in sound to the K series, I think you will be surprised in the Saludas because they will have the quality sound that separates your K's from planet Zs, but also add a touch of overtones that make it better then you would expect.
My last post wasn't written well, sorry. I wasn't saying anything nice about the PZ's, it just read that way. Anyhoo, I love me some Saludas so far. I just have a 18" mist x crash and a 18" m loco china right now but I've got the hats, another mist crash (19), a 14" diamond med thin crash, and a 22" glory big bell ride on the way. Oh yeah.
I switched to it after 18 years of playing and within 30 seconds I decided I'd never go back unless my cable hi hat breaks. Then I'll have to crossover until the new one comes in. :)
I used to use any heads now I'm strictly aquarian. Super 2's w/ x rings on the toms now, trying the Coated Performance 2's next time. Focus X with dot on the snare and Superkick 2 on the bass. The drum set in my vids is a Tama superstar custom, I gig with a Gretsch catalina Birch kit.
wow, i was thinking about getting a hi hat like that, but now i'm positive that i'm going to get one! Thanks for posting this. p.s. do you have some special type of clutch on your hi hat? because it looked like you just pressed a button to bring the top cymbal down.
I actually considered making another YT profile to host vids like this so that my dear subscribers wouldn't have to be subjected to them. Glad I didn't I guess.
MAN! I love the sound of this thing.

Yep, factory heads are usually no good. Aquarian is what I use when I can get them.
johndoe1027 3 years ago
I would get Evans with the dampening ring built in. they sound very nice
rocklegend157 3 years ago
Yep, Aquarians version is called the Focus X. It's what I like.

I have a pair of 14" AA brilliant, 14" Paiste Sigs w/ sound edge bottom, and a pair of 14" Saluda hats. No Zildjians anymore.

how you get the hihats on op of the bass drum, clamp?
combo360 3 years ago
It's a remote hi hat stand. The cymbals have a clamp that attaches them to a cymbal stand or rack.
johndoe1027 3 years ago

It's called a drop clutch. Just a press of the lever lets the top cymbal rest on the bottom cymbal for double bass playing.
