I like how the writers turned the whole abuse thing around to imply that there was actually "No" abuse, for his friends repeating this and concluding this and for Gerald to be asexual is just, the way he is. No sexual trauma, nothing in his childhood. It's just the way he is.
Go Shortland St! They are so spot on with many of the points about asexuality eg. how there doesn't have to be a reason for someone being asexual, they just ARE asexual.
