  • His father is malaysian-chinese and mother scottish-irish. Woooooooo :D

  • Doctor Who brought me here. Beat that!

  • @AKBF3WIN I was watching a Doctor Who video and this song was playing in it. It was this artist's version so I researched him.

  • its a great song that has been done justice my favorite is Glen campbell and jerry reed sadly the tossers at ovation found a way of taking it off you tube

  • Eva's is best.

  • david. your country hates you!

  • ed sheeran brought me here

  • I really don't like this version :\

  • I like this one, but have you heard the Johnny Cash one?

  • @WWWAKATheTruth no...but i will now...johnny cash is the shit. the original...no one can ever copy that man's musical genius :)

  • @WWWAKATheTruth Of course we did, hear the Eva cassidy's version too, I think Ed sheeran's amazing personnaly, & Eva's aswell! Cheers!

  • great vocals. how burial thought you know what im going to take these deep soul vibes and turn it into some dark drum and bass is beyond me. but shietttt hes got a good ear. glad to hear the original is so different to the burial remix. great contrast.

  • amazing xx

  • I saw him 2 hours ago in the melkweg amsterdam. It was great!!

  • @kwakiutlthunderbird so jealous.

  • Tymz..

  • how is this guy not bigger?

  • very soulful indeed

  • love jamie..the best

  • what a kiesh

  • anyone know what toaster he used to film this?

  • Wow, what emotion in his face...

  • uuuuuuuuuuur... christmas advert.

  • Ed Sheeran brought me here. =)

  • This is real music.

  • We meet again.. 240p

  • Dr. Ralph Stanley's version > Johnny Cash's > Pretty Lights w/ Dr ralph Stanley > Jamie Woon's > Ed Sheeran's

Great song, all these versions are great, some just a little better.

  • marry me jamie :)

  • i prefer this one to ed sheerans. although this is a very old song, woons cover is original as an acapella. Ed's version is pretty much exactly the same as this one! all the harmonies are the same. it would have been nice if he'd put his own twist on it.

  • I thought that it was impossible to replace Johnny Cash's version as my favorite for this song. It has the suggestion of a deep south black baptist church to it. Johnny's is mountain music.

  • THIS SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING!

  • 2:38 - he stopped time? woah o.O

  • Best 240p video on youtube?

  • 240p

  • both are awesome in their own right

  • this is a great song no matter who dings it i like both versions but i like eds better only cus i like the way he sings like you can tell he puts his whole being in it and sings his heart out...but jamies version is very mellow i like that too...both great singers

  • Jack White from the White Stripes has a good version of this song.

  • i love Jamies one and Eds one i dont get why people have the need to say that one is better then the other at the end of the day its music and we should be lucky we have people like ed and jamie to listen to.

  • i love ed sheeran but this guy just gave me goosebumbs! WOW!!!

  • Hello, Im Writing This In Hope That Just 1 Person Will Read It,

I am a passionate 18 year old singer who loves music and those that follow the same road. Its just not everybody gets there break, dreams are not meant to be easy to accomplish, hence why you may only dream about them,

But you, all of you, could help me take a singular step closer to mine

all i ask is for you to browse my covers, and spread the word.

and if you can do that, then I will be forever in your favour.

    Love

    KarlLovellMusic

  • this is not a negro spiritual. We are learning this song in my voice class and i totally adore your version of the song. Great job

  • I thought it was a negro spiritual song (originally sung by the negro slaves) ??

  • LIKE from Serbia

  • who orignally created the song 'wayfaring stranger' ??

  • @winash10 Nobody knows - its a folk song. I may be entirely wrong though :')

  • ..I love this song no matter who sings it.. It is a good song.

  • From all of the WONDERFUL covers - THIS IS THE BEST EVER! W O W

But it's a matter of taste...

    :)

  • Prefering classic Johny Cash's version!!!It kicks ass

  • hey I recently did an acapella cover of this beautiful song :) It would be really nice if youtubers could give me any feedback. :)

  • Nice song, but I always prefer live music, and the way Sheeran actually builds the track on stage puts it ahead of this version for me. But I'm not a childish zealot like some so I'm not going to shit on Woon's in an effort to convince myself that I'm right.

  • 16 horse power!

  • does not understand why this absolute babe of a lad isn't more famous with a beautiful voice like this!

  • who made this song him or ed?

  • @qwertypluss Johnny Cash.

  • Comment removed

  • @qwertypluss its an old american folk tale. many people have sung it.

  • @qwertypluss Despite being sung by many people, and many different renditions, if you see the Jools Holland live show of Sheeran playing this, he actually says 'this is a cover of Jamie Woon's Wayfaring Stranger'. I heard this version second, and i've got to say... I think I prefer it. But that's just an opinion.

  • We're singing this in my choir and our teacher showed us this video, I don't even think we can top his voice.

  • original is always better. end of

  • Ooooh, he's good - I think of Lenny Kravitz when I hear Jamie's voice - am I alone??!?

  • jamie woon... legend!

  • this is very similar to the ed sheeran version but yu cant say either of them copied off each other because the songs 200 years old

  • Enter your text here :/ lol

  • ed sheerans version is better, this guy is weird

  • @andyscfc well without this guys version you wouldn't have Ed sheerans.

  • He is the best!!!!

  • @UlstersOwn oh goodness... he did not write this song. but i love his version!

  • @brandeesha I accidentally replied to you, ya dick head. your the one all on this video page commenting to everyone having "internet" arguments. Obviously you didnt catch that i was agreeing with you and maybe i just commented on the wrong post. I dont know how you got the vibe that i was trying to start a fight.. Get a grip and grow up. TROLLING? what a nerd. bye

  • Is it just me who finds him scary?

  • Mate. It's all about Johnny Cash, that said, Jamie Woon definitely does it justice :)

  • Gotta be said that both versions are amazing, personally I prefer Ed Sheerans, but what a talent Jamie Woon is for producing such an intelligent and amazing remix

  • Personally I love this version the most. One thing we can all agree on is that Jamie's high notes are WAY more raw, effortless and more suited. Great spiritual kind of vibe in this tune.

  • Just seems to lack passion, probably would be better live though as he does have one hell of a voice!

  • sounds like he's REALLY bored

  • Comment removed

  • Mmmmm,beautiful.... We sang this for chorus class!(:

  • oh you beauty, i thought this was ed sheerans until recently, jamie and ed are by far the best artists in a long time, they both are pure talent, doing it all themselves, with amazing results. god i can't express how much i love them both <3333333333333

  • Prefering Ed Sheerans version

  • @OrangeSpiciii Totally agree, even if Ed's cover is from this one :)

  • @1996musicismylife well obviously that is concept of a cover

  • 1. How different/young does Jamie look on this?

    2. This video is trippy.

    3. I love the part where he snaps his fingers and the background changes/stops at the same time!

    4. Listen to the acoustic version of this where he uses the loop sampler, it's awesome! Better than Ed Sheerans version.

    5. Who cares who "owns" the song? He sings it well, that's what matters to me!

  • @UlstersOwn stop embaressing yourself

  • @UlstersOwn Jamie neither wrote this song or owns the rights to it, actually. Unless he was alive in the eighteenth century he didn't write it...

I suggest that before resorting to insulting people on the internet and calling them vulgar names you make sure you have a clue what you're talking about. Google it if you don't believe me, there were many covers made before Jamie's and I'm sure there will be many more made in the future.

It appears that you're the one that needs to "grow up" dear.

  • @UlstersOwn Ok I won't then....I'm sure you're 100% right and Wikipedia is full shit....

  • @UlstersOwn

"The Wayfaring Stranger" (aka "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" or "I Am a Poor Wayfaring Stranger"), Roud 3339, is a well-known British spiritual/folk song originating in the early 18th century about a plaintive soul on the journey through life. It became one of Burl Ives's signature songs, included on his 1944 album The Wayfaring Stranger. Ives used it as the title of his early 1940s CBS radio show and his 1948 autobiography. He became known as "The Wayfaring Stranger." FACT!!!

  • Beautiful voice to accent a beautiful song. Lots of love from Canada

  • Beautiful.

  • jamie should nut ed for the hell of it

  • @UlstersOwn

I hate to break it to you but Jamie didn't "make it his". Both Jamie's version, and Ed's version are great. They're both covers, it doesn't matter who covered it first, because there's hundreds of other covers of this song. Grow up.

  • I wonder if anyone realises that this is neither Ed Sheeran's or Jamie Woon's song, they're both a cover of a song written in the 18th century.

  • jamie HOW the fuck?

  • who gives a fuck who sings it better, what matters is that if you sing it half as well as he does then its always going to be a tune worth listening to.

  • Ed Sheeran did a cover of this song, Jamie didn't take it both amazing!!

  • eds is so much better

  • Song is so minimal, guys incredible

  • fuck ed

  • try too hard

  • the two highest rated comments are talking about other artists' versions :/ this is an amazing recording in itself! give credit where it is due!

  • Go and Listen to Ed Sheeran's version if that's what you prefer. I'm going to sit here and enjoy this version. Bye.

  • @Cheeedle or just like both versions because they're both incredible at what they do!

  • @Cheeedle this version is great and ed sheeran's one's great as well. Both exceedingly talented.

  • HIs beautiful voice reminds me of...... Terence Trend D'Arby, who by the way, had his very own genre 2 :)

  • ed sheerans tone of voice just makes it sound better

  • @LiamHatter17 ED SHEERAN FAN BOY ALERT. Go suck his ginger balls...

  • @christoboyyy why is there any need to be rude

  • @pinKstarzx suck my balls

  • @christoboyyy technically his balls aren't ginger his pubes maybe, not his balls.. so think about things before you say them you prick

  • I'm actually appalled that Ed Sheeran's version of this has more views than this one. Yeah, Sheeran's talented, but this is far more soulful and Woon's own adaptation of a song of a completely different style. Kudos to Woon for this arrangement.

  • not loving how the top comment is advertising another artist.. when i came here for jamie.

  • Comment removed

  • this is epic

  • Jack white wrote this originally so you can stop all the comments about the producer, and Ed Sheeran and Jamie Woon are friends so Im sure the cover wasnt made to be compared to this version but to experiment so stop arguing over who's you prefer, and most of all just chill the fuck out and enjoy the music.

  • @MrDuBsTep2o1o No he never lol.

  • @MrDuBsTep2o1o 'Jack [W]hite wrote this originally' - NO! It's an old english spiritual, and appeared on Burl Ive's 1944 album 'The Wayfaring Stranger'.

  • @DomPusey it sounds more like a slave song, definitely not english

  • @willo190 Yep, sorry! It originated in America, but in an area with a high proportion of English Immigrants. Hmm.

  • Million times better than Ed Sheerens cover. I hate how everyone thinks Ed wrote this :|

  • he looks really scary... but good voice!

  • He deserves a better video and more views

  • @ Bellypubes your bullshit so shut your trap it is a opinion you small minded SOB!!!!

  • I know dark clouds will gather round me , if i cant listen to this uplifting piece of a miracle

  • Comment removed

  • I wish you tools would stop boning Ed Sheeran. He's generic, boring and his version is A DIRECT COPY OF THIS ONE so shut the hell up and listen to Jamie, because he's better creatively, talent-wise and has his own ideas, rather than stealing other peoples' and having idiot fans who don't appreciate imagination.

  • jamie arranged the song awesomely and ed sheeran sang it beautifully. and because of that more people know about jamie. so in my opinion they helped each other.

  • This version is better than Ed Sheeran's, technically and vocally.

  • @chewlego thats bullshit and you know it

  • @Bellypubes It completely isn't.

  • Obviously i like this song coz this guys awsome xx but i still prefer Ed Sheeran's version <3 LOVE THIS GUYS HAIR! ITS SO FLUFFYYY! x

  • 240p? Is this Africa?

  • I forgot to say, the one from EmmyLou Harris is from 1980 ;)

  • EmmyLou Harris has a version that is unsurpassed.

Plus the real men would wanna listen to -16 Horsepower-'s (=name of the band) version.

  • does this guy have facial expressions?

  • Lol at all the Ed Sheeran fanboys... Obviously the original (and the Burial remix, for that matter) shit all over his shitty cover.

  • @uklumini sheeran's cover isn't shitty man, remember that woon only arranged this (however well it may be) and didn't actually write it.... they're both great though this version is brilliant.

  • @reallynaked na sheerans shit! No need to lie

  • @Mcjaffa1 mate he's obviously not shit, watch some of his life stuff the kid's got a lot of talent.... like some people have said, stop comparing people and just enjoy the music, it shouldn't be about comparing who is better at all.....

  • @reallynaked i know hes good dude. But we come here to listen to Jamie woon.

If i wanted to talk about Ginger ninja then id visit his songs

  • @uklumini the original was made in the early 19th century, and no it is not obvious that this version or the burial remix shit's all over ed sheeran's cover, it's just obvious that you think so.

ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) Y U NO RESPECT DIFFERENT TASTE IN MUSIC

  • Lets just remember that Ed Sheeran covered this, Jamie Woon actually arranged this and made the song better, Ed just made it better again.

  • Amazing!!

  • Both versions of the song are amazing in their own ways in my opinion, and both artists have stunning voices, so I don't see why people have to make it a competition between the two. Whatever happened to simply loving music?

  • beautiful <3

  • Sorry need to view the one posted by Jamie Woon - LOL

  • Come on Jamie fans we need to get the views up on this vid - Ed Sheeran's version has over 600,000 views and its only been up since April!!! We know Jamie's is better as it suits the style of the song, lets show them!!!

  • Prefer this version. His voice is just more suited to the song so the outcome is more natural.

  • Wow...amazing what he has done to this old British spiritual/folk song!!!

  • Cool Cover Version!

  • Ed Sheeran and Jamie Woon both do amazing covers, they are different - Ed's is more modern and well, this is just beautiful. Love them both, such talent :')

  • beautiful

  • To be honest I can't compare Ed Sheeran and Jamie Woon. Their voices are so different from each other. They are both very good.

  • Jamie woon is amazing, so is Ed sheeran.

  • Ed sheeran is much better Tumbs up if argeeed

  • Jamie got there first- what a beaut

  • This is better than ed sheerans version, because his voice is haunting like the song. it flows through your ears. i think ed's version is trying to hard. this is just smooth and amazing.

  • Hey Please check out my VERSION of this song "Wayfaring Stranger" Admitted its nothing on Ed or Jamies version, however I did loop the vocals and things like that, Please PLease Please let me know what you think, thanks guys x

  • this is brilliant :-) i do prefer the ed sheeran version though, he gives it more soul

  • why are we talking ed sheeran, its all about 16 horsepowers version

  • Jamie's version is much better than ed sheerans. Ed sheeran my ass >:D

  • this guy is good. i do prefer ed sheerans version though. this guy doesnt seem to have any emotion or anything, he makes it slightly boring. he does have a good voice though. i dont like the video though, it hurts my eyes a little

  • Burial's remix of this is fantastic. Definitely worth checking out

  • TOWERS!!!

  • like this if ed sheeran brought you here :)

  • i just saw this guy in shepherds bush last week and he was amazing!!! so amazing i can't really describe - if you get the chance see him live its so worth it. he closed with this song and the atmosphere was crazyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! it was beautiful and i'm in love!!!

  • You havnt heard Jamie batboy yet, or seen him live, did you also know he writes his own songs, producers them, uses a loop station live ?

  • talented in his own right, but in my opinion nowhere near ed sheerans class

  • @MiKeTho67 ed sheeran cant sing as good as this guy. i hate ed sheeran

  • @Mcjaffa1 Why?

  • @W0ntGoQuietly I just hate his voice. Im from london right. But his cockney style singing pisses me off! Jamie Woon FTW!.

Plus Ginger people dont have souls!! No matter how much it seems otherwise

  • I know people may not like it but frankly i prefer ed sheeran

  • jeeze, this guy gets around a lot doesn't he!

  • Its a rare talent to sing such an emotional song with no emotion on your fcae but in your voice, totally amazing!

  • 25 people don't know what wayfaring means

  • I heard the ed sheeran version first, then I listened to the jonny cash version then jack white's.Couldn't believe how different they were,THEN I heard this version and I now see where Ed got it from.Love ed's version and I love this too it's just good to hear where Ed got his inspiration from, the song wouldn't of been worth covering if not for this.

  • @sswwiinnccee aw why did you have to say that and make me respond?! lol. This is a really old folk tune, you cant say it wasnt worth covering until this guy did it because if people hadnt covered it before and down through the years it could have been lost! Thats the beauty of songs like this mate!

But as long as you like the words or the tune, then thats all that matters ;)

Though i have to say if i was jamie i'd be a little hurt the top comment is about ed sheerans cover of his cover...

  • Wow :) I love his opening to this, but equally love Ed Sheeran's too :) this is much sloooooooower but still delicious :D
