Hi I am 20 been suffering from floaters for about a year and can't get over them it has caused me to not go out in the day because all I see are these floaters I live in NYC and went to some of the top specialists here. But none of them thought this was a safe surgery they said it could cause pressure in the eye which could cause RD. Is this true and if not is there any doctors that practice the YAG in NYC that you would recommend?
@pstampone Your young age makes it less likely that you will be a candidate for the laser treatment. That said, your doctor is mistaken about the procedure. Although elevated eye pressure is a risk, it is rare and elevated eye pressure does not cause retinal detachments. Period. In fact, over the last 20 years, I am not aware of any retinal detachment being caused by the laser treatment for eye floaters. - Dr. J
@marcostyle1971 Please people... go to my website where there is a complete discussion about about the treatment, expectations for success, as well as risks of the procedure. This procedure is all I do as a licensed medical professional. I could not do this if the risks were common and devastating. - Dr. Johnson
my Eye doctor just recently told me I have eye floaters in my left eye and very high pressure in my right eye... should I be worried about either of these?? I also have a little grey spot in the back of my left eye ...he doesnt seem to think its anything to worry about... I do have alot of headaches and I am going to a neuro doctor in a few weeks to see if I have MS...if so.. could that explain some of these symptoms/problems.?
@VitreousFloaterSolns so in conclusion, the strains, headache, pain in eye with a feeling of pulling pushing, eye veins being more visible with blood and black marks/spots in white bit of the eye. All these happened after i saw the floater and i can guarantee 100%, even through pictures i take regularly that it wasn't there and i was just perfectly normal. After the temperature got hot, dehydrated for working hours and hours (13 hours) and sleeping late sometimes then i started seeing floater,

@VitreousFloaterSolns She said they cant do a pressure test, because of my age which has to be 40+. Also I see BLACK spots/marks on the white bit of my eye. It is visible and its like a dot pen mark. It is black and stands out. She said that was normal too, Is this because of me getting really nervous and curious and happening naturally or is this because of the Floater and triggering something else? As i said earlier, i never had problems, my eye sight are +0.25 and -0.25 kinda wired.
@VitreousFloaterSolns I've visited Optometrists, and they said my eyes were fine, i told them about one of my eye having a feeling of pressured/tightness and something pulling-pushing and aching they said its the liquid in your ear or something causing it, i didn't believe it that much because all these stuff like headache/strain and bloody veins on eye happens after the floaters, and she wasn't convinced about what i said. What would you say? I had no eye problems never did surgery what so ever
@VitreousFloaterSolns I'm 18, and during 40 °C/104 °F day, which was about 3-4 days ago. I developed 1 Floater, transparent not fully black, and can be ignored. Im worried about flashes, how do they appear, are flashes on one spot or the whole eye. And if i have tearing or retinal detachment and i get like blind can that be treated anyhow after a certain age, so i see normal again? Is there any risk of being blind forever by having floater in my case? And floaters increase in hot/cold whether?
@blizzaroxx Not enough room to explain here, but the laser has a cone-shaped energy profile and can only deliver to one point in space. As long as the focus is far enough away from the retina and lens, usually nothing happens. Dr. Johnson
@globalman new-onset floaters can Be a sign of an impending or progressing retinal detachment. More often, though, floaters are a sign of floaters.
Said floaters should be checked out by a qualified eye care provider to make sure that the retina is healthy and that there are no holes or tears or other serious pathology. The laser treatment for eye floaters has been around for almost 20 years and I am not aware of a retinal detachment caused by the laser treatment.
I have read and been advised that floaters are sometimes a pre condition and warning sign to detached retina. Can this treatment prevent or increase this risk or condition. I have now infrequent flashes at periferal vision.
@mynuttsforu It is not like LASIK. LASIK is superficial, automated, and dialed in before the procedure and controlled by a software program. This is taking place inside the eye and each shot is aimed, assessed and fires. This is technically more difficult and usually requires more than one treatment. - Dr. Johnson
Not officially approved by who? What agency officially declares what procedures can or cannot be done? The FDA has officially gone on record that they are not in the business of determining what procedures can or cannot be done. There is always some risk, although it is relatively small. No procedure should be done unless the potential benefits well outweigh the potential risks.
is this operation risky? many comments on the internet said this kind of operation is not officially approved cuz the laser could harm the retina instead of floater.

I thought only a vitrectomy was the only permanent solution for this.

Hello. Is it true that most patients have the floaters return within 1-2 years after treatment or you don't have that kind of information?

@izzyandcarrie Get the eye pressure treated and managed. That is a bigger threat to the health of the eye.
