@dogtrainingtricks my 9 months old shit-zu can do this trick, it took us 3 days.. thanks for this nice video... im yuen from the philippines. thanks man... great job!!
The clicker is used so when the dog does somthing right it clicks meaning it's done you then treat the dog nd when you try do the trick again your dog will do the trick you taught him/her up too when you clicked it's just so the dog knows when to stop
How should it take a dog to learn this trick? I tried teaching him this trick a few minutes at a time for about an hour. He's not catching on as fast as your dog.
Thanks for the video, cute dog. I have an Australian Shepherd that I am trying to teach this to. I haven't used a clicker before for training purposes, so the idea of using the clicker is new to me. What kind of treats do you use for them? And why is the clicker used to train? Thanks, very helpful!
10 days, that's pretty long ... my shihtzu dog learned this in 1 day, not too perfect though, she doesn't want to lay down long enough to get her reward ;)
Your could say "click" but it's best to keep the sound unique, distinctive and super fast. If you can't get your hands on a clicker you could use a pen (one that makes a clicking sound).
It's probably best to avoid using your voice as an event marker - which is what a clicker does.
Keep in mind that I don't put every minute of our training sessions up on Youtube.
It takes us much more than a few minutes to learn a new trick. It will usually take a few weeks worth of short sharp training sessions for Macy to master a new trick/behavior.
Macy loves cheese so I simply purchase it down at the local shops. She also likes liver treats which I get from my local pet store. Another option is some training treats made my Kong - just find out what your dog likes best.
Hyper dogs are difficult when we want them to concentrate on a certain task. My only advice is to play some games or take him for a walk before you begin your trick training session. Another good time to try is when your dog is hungry.
what kinda treats are you using for her. i have a 8 week old shihtzu and i am having problems with her cuase of her teeth being to tiny or very lil teeth not sure which is the case and she also is i think scared of the sound of the clicker any suggestions
I would suggest using some soft cheese or small pieces of hot dog for your young Shih-Tzu.
Regarding the clicker you could wrap it in a bit of cloth or place it in your pocket, which will soften the "click". I'm sure your puppy will get used to the sound and will eventually look forward to it with great excitement.
hey man ur videos are really helpful and fun, if u have any more tricks up ur sleeve, please make more videos! ive done all ur lessons so far so i need some new tricks! cheers to you and ur very talented pooch
Great video! My dog just started obedience classes a couple weeks ago and we have both been introduced to the clicker training! I am in love with it! He has responded beautifully to it! I love your videos! I will have to teach these to him! I only had one dog that knew bang, and I always wished that my other dogs would be more receptive to it! Now I know exactly how, and what i was doing wrong before. Thanks!
Macy likes small pieces of cheese and also liver treats. The key is to provide the treats that best motivate your dog. In other words, the treats they like best.
Wow, i always wondered how u go about teachn a dog tricks other than sit (which is byfar the easiest). I have two 4mnth old gsd, cant wait to start practicing.. thanks
Hi, I was wondering if you have this on video, my sister has a dog and she really needs help training it. She doesn't have a computer & I've tried to download you video and can't.
If the vid was captured on camera buy some blank CD's from a local shop plug in the camera go on windows media player and download the file. (for ray's sis)
It can be harder teaching the Play Dead to a larger dog. One reason is their sheer size and another is that they may be more dominant and don't readily accept a very submissive position such as lying on the side.
Great video, I've been trying to teach my 80 year old MOM how to train her Jack Russell, without luck ( (maybe I should have used the clicker on her LOL). So I decided to show her your videos. She is now able to train her dog with them. If an 80 year old woman can watch your videos and learn, so can anyone, Thanks
Do you recommend mastering one trick before moving on to another or is it ok to work on different tricks, such as doing a session earlier in the day with one trick and then a later session in the day with another trick?
OK thanks. Here is another question. Using a clicker would be new for me. I have always used treats, hand gesture and voice. I'm getting 2 new dogs though and thought I would at least look into the clicker. After it seems like they have mastered a trick, should they do it just as well without the use of the clicker and only using the voice and hand command? Not really understanding how you get rid of the clicker I guess since it is probably not realistic to always have one on hand.
Yes the clicker is only used when teaching the trick (or any behavior) and is always faded out when the trick is mastered. The clicker gives great feedback to your dog during the learning process but is not needed once your dog has a firm understanding of what you are requesting of him/her.
I would definitely recommend that you give clicker training a go - it is brilliant!
Sorry to bug you again lol. As I said we are getting 2 new dogs within the next week, a 7 month old bulldog and 2 month old Shih Tzu. Our 4 year old Basset has the basic training, no clicker used. Since i will be using it on the 2 new dogs do you think it would be wise to do some with the Basset as well or should I just stick with what she has known?
If you're happy with the training and progress of your Basset I'd just stick with what you have been doing with him/her.
On the other hand it will be great to start out clicker training the Bulldog and Shih-Tzu. Please note that it can be tricky when using the clicker if there is more than one dog around - all of the dogs respond to the clicker.
thump up for everyone to see:::::_:::::: use your mouse to make the clicking sound

Hey mate.
I was wondering were and how much i can get the clicker for.
Also i have been training my puppy which is 9 weeks for over a week now and cut up her jerky snacks is that okay ?
Abela6 2 years ago
Yes jerky snacks are fine - as long as she really loves them and it motivates her during training sessions.
Just remember not to feed her too many at a time and also take whatever amount of treats you give her off her total food allowance.
DogTrainingTricks 2 years ago
where do you buy her treats? whats the name of the brand?
Also my shih tzu is really hyper and cant get him to pay attention to me what can i do?
thanks

mouse7993 3 years ago
It's much easier to work on one trick at a time. For most dogs it will become too confusing if you mix and match tricks at the one time.
Why not keep it as simple as possible for your dog by teaching and completing one trick at a time?
Then as soon as you are done, move onto your next trick. You'll have a wide range of tricks done before you know it.
