  • i think its so sad that ever video of anything to do with radiation has x box related game involved in the comments... get a life

  • I think chuck just had some diahorrea

  • Do they do that in Florida?

  • I think there are a few people on here that have the wrong idea. This is Portsmouth, one of the main naval bases in the UK. This siren would be to warn people if there was a nuclear accident regarding a nuclear powered submarine or ship. If it were to warn people for incoming bombs then they would have one in every major UK city. :)

  • @CharIiePresents "If it were to warn people for incoming bombs then they would have one in every major UK city. :)" <- lol would be to late anyway..

  • Great video, even with the wind its still easily audible. :D

  • Looks like the bombs hit it already.....looks very dishevelled

  • They used to sound these sirens off very briefly when the Dockyard finished for lunch and home time for the Dockyard workers. I grew up in Queen Street just outside the Dockyard as a young boy and always hear it day in day out for many many years. Then one day......nothing. Ever again.

  • Chilling, to say the least.

  • weird, I live about 10 minutes walk from here, I never hear the tests... If a nuke came I wouldn't even know :')

  • @NOWAYSKILZZ Amazing how many locals look for this stuff all of a sudden, and at the same time as me! Haha. Maybe we're just a minority? I may even know you if you live that close!

  • Very chilling. o.o;

  • Have to listen to this every poxy week.... & it still gets me looking out the window! Still freaks me out.

  • @LuiseB24B24 Do they still test this?

  • @oskaaron Yes they do. Used to be once a week, but now im hearing it once a fortnight.

  • Here in the US. siren tests are conducted only on wednesday at noon.....so if a accident happens on a wednesday at noon we are all screwed

  • @wtfareuserious now i know when to nuke you

  • if you can hear this, it would be too late. you already became a statistic.

  • I grew up with this sound. in the UK they were tested a lot during the cuban missile crisis, I thought it was lunchbreak siren at the local brewery, but once when it went off we had to climb under our desks at school and put our coats over our heads - when you're 7 years old you dont ask why. now Im a lot older I learned that it was to stop the kids screaming when/if the nuclear flash happened. Those were the days!!!!

  • @TheSSMusicChannel A simple layer of newspaper sheet can protect you. Keeping the children from screaming in true too, but the flash can blind people and the radiation can burn you. It would set fire to the coat and you could just ditch it if it caught fire.

  • @bf2lover42 Paper? thats not what I learned when I was in the RAF and did NBC training! lol

  • @TheSSMusicChannel Paper would burn and you could toss it out. Beats direct contact with the skin, if you ask me. Then it's up to you to leave the area.

The "under the desk" manoeuvre was to protect everyone from the blinding flash and radiation. Now I see my previous comment is a complete train-wreck, I mentioned newspaper and then coats.

Point is, those procedures were supposed to save people, not only to stop children from screaming.

  • Does anyone know how long there is between a siren sounding before a nuc hits?

  • @cadetgary The time it takes for you to realize you're dead. xD Nah just kidding, it can sometims be a minuite, it can sometimes be an hour, and it could even be a year if required (i.e.: evacuation).

  • @colabcalub If a ICBM was actually launched against us, we wouldn't know until we felt that "burning" sensation as almost all incoming missile sirens were de-activated at the end of the cold war. '93 to be exact!

  • @cadetgary (Correct me if I'm wrong) but... during the cold war era, The last estimate of a nuclear strike on the UK mainland from Russia, was said to take around 4 minutes from a land based silo, but I'd say that the time the news had filtered from Fylingdales to civil defence and then onto the general public would be a lot longer, so you probably wouldn't even hear one of these in reality.

  • @Shagnarsty @cadetgary I think you are correct. With everything ready to go during heightened tension (following testing of the system, etc), it was thought that all the sirens & BBC broadcasts could be started in under 60 secs from the decision being made, leaving around 2 1/2 to 3 mins warning. However, large parts of the system wouldn't have worked at all during a surprise attack (e.g. unmanned posts, some areas removed fuses from sirens if there'd been problems with vandals, etc).

  • @Shagnarsty @cadetgary Also, a surprise submarine attack would have made it unlikely there was any warning at all. The 'four minute' warning was really a propaganda tool (and to justify Fylingdales to the public) at a time when there was great pressure from many quarters in the UK to either abandon nuclear weapons or establish a comprehensive public shelter policy. Fylingdales was of more use to the US who would have had longer warning times to respond against land based attack.

  • As I watched, a pop up arrived on the screen...... "Find Your Happy Place" an advert for a home buyers guide...... D'oh!!

  • my town literally has one of these that go off everyday

  • its to fake you just added it to the background

  • My university building was about 10 minutes away from the docks, first time I knew Portsmouth had a warning siren was when I had just got out of the train station and the bleedin' thing went off.

  • I hear this sound every so often, I'm in folkestone, kent. (UK) I hate it reminds me of the war even though I was never alive during the war

  • @TwinsenRS

Friday test for the garrison at 12 pm.

  • this is fucking scary dude seriously

  • @GeorgeC1992 The sirens are kept incase of radiation leak from nuclear submarines. Found out the answer to your question recently. If there is a nuclear submarine berthed at Portsmouth at the time, the test gets cancelled.

  • @Campcowboy

i'd also imagine that the test soundings are preceeded by an announcment on local radio news "at 10pm today there will be a testing of the nuclear warning sirens, please do not be alarmed"

should one of the navy nuclear subs be in port and the siren goes off, there will probably be an announcment on local radio to give residents instructions on what to do "we interupt this program to give you important information......"

  • the most terrifying sound ever. But imagine hearing this for the first time back in world war 2. U can only imagine what it must of been like

  • Strangely, I find it to be a captivating noise.

  • @PS3Gamer10101 OMG me to! and i think the bathroom door is a blast door

  • This is the sound my toilet makes when I've gone!

  • Honestly, this sounds terrifying.

  • @Jdawg

They made the Silent Hill siren sound like the nuclear siren.

  • y would they make them sound like silent hill

  • siren plays: its a trap

  • why is there a siren to warn when there is an atomic bomb?

if your still going to die,it should rather be a surprise :)

  • If you hear that alarm go home to wash, you put your perfume and a new suit, then you're going to the cemetery :)))))

  • If i would here that siren, i would put my clothes off and run around screaming: 25 killstreak!!!!! YEAH bitches! VICTORY is ours!

  • @TheUnsolvebleProblem HA HA HA HA! Call of Duty right bro!! HA HA HA how did you ever think of that? Do you often think of real life situations that resemble Call of Duty? Can I have your phone nmumber so whenever you think of something this fucking awesome you can just call me? Bro we should totally play Call of Duty bro, bro. bro bro bro.

  • @stgm

Just blame his or her wild sense of humour.

  • Haha...the crappy wind in the mic makes it sound exactly the same as my old VHS recording out at Portsmouth/ Gosport. Weather was the same too... "continuing Sucky...with afternoon Shitty periods."

  • can anyone tell me if britain has a public nuclear warning these days

  • @mrrezdude1 Only if you are near any sort of Power Plant, Chemical Plant or Army Base. I live near a huge chemical factory and they test sirens on Tuesday Mornings, Creepy stuff

  • @mrrezdude1, normally no. only in places with a higher than normal threat/safety level

  • Badtrip

  • When you hear this, it means Chuck Norris is in town.

  • imagine if its foggy and they do this............

  • imagine its cloudy and they do this, id b hiding in my closet

  • i would shit my panties

  • Awwwww Fu *Explosion*

  • ."Osama, OSAMA! Where shall we attack?"

    "Fuck off, OSChrome. I'm dead."

  • scariest noise i've ever heard. now that we killed osama, we shouldn't be suprised when we hear this.

  • Thats the mating call of the moose.

  • When I was living in Northern Ireland during the '80s, they used these sirens when there was a fire anywhere. The sound of it still makes make blood run cold.

  • o i hate that sound im scare

  • There's a siren like this used at a local quarry to warn of blasting. Makes your heart thump when they decide to test it every now and again.

  • if i were to hear this i wouldnt be concerned about the nuke at all. i would have had a heart attack and died already.

  • For some odd reason i picture me walking outside and theres absolutely no one in the world....and this will be going off.

  • @Berkleighspellsbitch these alarms are hand-wound to function, we have one where i work. if it was jsut you left, this wouldnt be going off unless it was you cranking it :) so fear not!

  • @Berkleighspellsbitch

It's because of films lol. I also do that.

  • THAT SIREN SOUND CREEPS THE SHIT OUT OF ME I'M SCARRED JUST WATCHING THIS!!!:(??.....

  • Your's is a higher pitch than in our area.

  • Gah! silent hill all over again!

  • "Osama, OSAMA! Where shall we attack?"

"London, New York, Paris, Tokyo? Or Sydney, Rome or Ontario?"

    "Nah, PORTSMOUTH."

  • @OSChrome I guess Osama won't attack hes own city New York :P

  • @OSChrome Too bad he's dead now lol

  • @OSChrome It's ok, he's dead now!

  • @OSChrome

Portsmouth is an important place for the navy!

  • @OSChrome I like the random Ontario mention. Not hating, often I wish I lived in Canada, but I doubt anywhere in Ottawa was on the top of Osama's list. So awesome to be able to type "was" now.

  • @OSChrome to bad cuz that fucker is dead!! Muwahahahahha!!!!!!

  • @OSChrome its where the Nuclear subs go idiot.

  • @OSChrome portsmouth naval base would be a good target cause of the nuke subs if one of thsoe explodes while ready to go to sea and armed with the nukes good bye to most of that side of england from the blast and inital effects and the rest will be uninhabiatable if there still there becuase of the radiation

  • @kingnick104 a conventional blast would not set off a nuke weapon - eg leaving a grenade to explode next to a nuke warhead will not trigger a nuclear explosion! the laws of physics just dont allow it.

  • @topchef86 a big enough blast might

  • @kingnick104 unless they are visiting, they don't have nuclear subs in portsmouth naval base.

  • @OSChrome Hehe.

  • @OSChrome Portsmouth is a valid strategic target as a large portion of the Royal navy are based there, chopstick.

  • Ahh my good old Portsmouth but I only actually herd the testing if the sirens once in my whole life... mmm..........

  • sexy ship

  • @Meerkat218 HMS Warrior 1860. Well worth a look around.

  • tactical nuke inbound

  • air raid siren one of the most creepy sounds in the world

  • Two dates of major catastrophes:

    9-11-01 <-- NYC terrorist attack

    3-10-11 <-- Japan earthquake

Add the two dates together and you get 12-21-12

That's just a LITTLE bit creepy...

  • @KevinTheNoobie I can't beleive it would add up to that. That is super creepy. ;(

  • @KevinTheNoobie

If you bealive that is the end, you are stupid. Why is that such a big thing? Yes, so people can make money out of it.

  • @KevinTheNoobie

Wrong, the earthquake actually happened on the 11th of March, not the 10th. Sorry for making your entire claim worthless.

  • When you look at it, Nikes are just another way of sayin STFU and GTFO NOOB!

  • id love to see the people that didnt know it was a test and heard this :P

  • @jgfcawgfjcfwa Yeahh, like me when it woke me up! D:

  • shitttt the end of the wor....no more work yayyyyy

  • Christ this would scare the crap out of me if I heard this. It ruin day out for start chilling stuff.

  • BOOMMMMM

  • UK will get a bomb soon from Pakistan, if racism doesn't stop there.

  • @999humair shut the fuck up you fucking paki wanker.

  • @999humair Your the racsist one! Wanting to whipe out us english with a nuke sounds like racism to me! I gather you live here in england, you should think more before you write comments about the country that helps you and keeps you safe from the shit that happens in your own countries! If you don't like it here you can leave your not being forced to live here. And if you do live elsewhere then you should see the help we give to foreign people think before you type please!

  • wow that siren is so erie

  • it's not one minute before detonation its the 4 minute warning siren that lasts for a minute,it gives you just enough time to shite your pants and phone your loved ones to say goodbye or get into the nearset gov underground bunker that will probably already have been locked down for atleast 2 hours before you get there, best chance is get 100 miles from any major city or into your own bunker, everyone else dies from initial blast, burns recieved during blast or radiation poisining.RIP humanity

  • @luvu2luvme Well they probably they wouldn't be opened for health safety reasons by the caretaker or those c@@T councellors are already down there and don't want jo public in there to spoll things for them.

  • i can see my gaff from here

  • Just hearing that siren makes my heart drop.

  • Americans dont have any kind of sirens especially nuke ones. If theres a nuke heading our way we would know the last minute before detonation.

  • @1967beatlesfan Really? ;)

  • why would they have a nuclear siren

  • @MrNascarfan24 Incase a nuclear bomb goes off. We need them so we are warned that a Nuclear Bomb will drop and GO kaboom.

  • @BNfryer

    Sounds awsome lmfao

Call a north Korean or some where out there lol

  • Best Prank Ever!,

    Go onto MSN or Skype,

Talk to a Friend who is in another country (E.g. Penpal)

Play the Carter siren and fool them into thinking your having a Nuclear Fallout :)

  • If I heard this siren in person I would probably sh** in my pants -.-

  • MAN THE HARPOONS!

  • is it the same siren they used in WW2? it certainly sounds like a Carter siren

  • hey, is this the warning to let Portsmouth know... there electric is about to be turned off again... Southern Electric 4 Portsmouth 0

  • @FireySnipingMedic oh yes. i have heared it, as i was fishing with my boyfriend. and i get a panik-attac. i think i must die. it was terrible. but it was only a sirenen test. :D

  • @FireySnipingMedic I once lived right next to city hall in my college town..one warm night I had the door wide open when the 'air raid siren' went off. Turns out we were under a tornado warning.. Never saw a drop of rain though. :)

  • @FireySnipingMedic Um, duh? Wow, 48 people actually thought that was a funny thing to say. Retards.
