@Shadzan Most likely the shows you see here are kinnescopes, most of which were in black and white. Some TV stations did not have direct network feeds and were sent filmed copies of TV shows (much cheaper than video tape). A common practice from the 1950s to the 1970s.
This was exactly almost 22 years before she played Lynn Herring's gaudy aunt Charlene on GH and PC later on. Cheatham is also a motion picture star appearing in "Wedding Singer" and "Roseanne" R got a lot of famous people in history to guest on her show. Rosie Rocked!
@entertainme3000 my favorite role for Maree was Stephanie on SFT--she was the nemesis to Mary Stuart's Jo, much in the tradition of Dorian/Vicki, Jill, Kay. LONG long feud.
@SoapsGoldenAge Indeed. She played the wonder, slightly vixenish, sarcastic, but ALWAYS entertaining Stephanie from 1974-1984; and then she was replaced with Louise Shaffer until Stephanie died in 1986, a few months before the show itself ended.
@AlbieGray Louse Shaffer OWNED the roles she played on Edge and Ryans. She was the first "split personality" story I ever saw--brilliantly done. You hated her and felt sorry for her at the same time. And her Rae, opposite such incredible talents like Helen Gallagher, Nancy Addison, was a revelation! Women's lib indeed. But as Stephanie the whole experience was sad and forgettable. She was killed by a serial killer (mercy killing, imo) .Heard Maree has a feud with the exec p du jour--Ellen??
What's so cool is that Marie Cheatham is back this week for the passing of Alice. I actually was there for the first year, all of 11 years old, and I caught it during Christmas vacation, and got hooked, and then continued watching it on school and summer vacations and thank God when the VCR was invented. There were whole months and even a whole year I missed, but I filled in the blanks with YouTube posts, and written summaries.
RIP Frances. You were loved my millions of fans who will miss Mrs H and her killer doughnuts!! You reminded me of my own Grandmother and how much I miss her. God bless and Godspeed!! Mac is waiting to welcome you!
RIP Francis Reid. This June so many people will be returning to Salem to say goodbye to Alice. Even the lady in the blue (Maree Cheatham), Marie Horton will be returning! Days definitely will never be the same without her
I just love the clothes the women wear in this one.
Alice is so elegant, without being fussy about it. Her outfit just screams timeless. That divine double strand of pearls....sigh.
And Marie's dress is that kitschy square 60s look that grownups expected a young woman to wear at the time. This was how a young woman balanced fashion with her parents' expectations--just a perfect selection for a character who is grown enough to get married, yet still eager to please her parents.
This clip shows what crap we have to watch today. Would love to get a hold of Days 1968-69 videos with Julie (Susan Seaforth) and Susan Martin (Denise Alexander)---oh, for the good old days!!
This is awesome. The show just isnt' the same. They've gotten rid of MOST of the characters i care about::John, Marlena, Patch & Kayla, Tony, etc. I could care lessa bout the others.
Is that "Julie" supposed to be the "Julie" who is married to Doug?

Why would the first episode be in colour, when the others are in black and white??

I guess Marie didn't marry Tony because in the bios of her character it says that he called off the engagement and she ended up with his father.
Frances was so great here. I'll miss her. RIP Frances Reid!
