  • @stonesteven90 Yup, i thought it would rev way higher. I have a truck w/a 383 w/4.10's w/35" tires and a 700r4 trans and i'm about 1700rpm at 60mph in over drive. My truck loves to run at 2500rpm and i'd think that V8 would too. Almost hard to believe that's the result of 4.10's w/little tire's.

  • I got 4.10s in my '02 and they are good for everything up to autobahn speeds... check out my drive to work video. the only way i'd change them out is if i was pushing more power and needed more top end. they are the funnest mod i've done, next to a short throw shifter.

  • @chakiya1001 Go with the 3:73's....I'm running 4:10's in my Cobra and they're just a little too steep, especially for the highway.

    A lot of fun around town, but 1st gear is useless.

  • i have a 01 GT with just the 3.55's and a AOD tranny. got it right before the weather got bad so ill get to play with it come spring time. has all the goodies, making 420rwhp and owner before gave us time slips, 11.1's. put a 4.10 in it and ill be in the 10's =)

  • I got 4.30's and their fine on the highway. 70mph at 2800 rpm..... you dont even need to do like 75 its pointless. you dont gain much time at all lol.

  • hi, i have a question for all you stang lovers. i had the 94 5.0 before i sold it and it was bad as hell. im about to get a 92 5.0 fox body with 4.10 gears and its a 5 speed. The only other mods it has is 18s staggered 9 in front and 10 in rear and MSD wires and cap/rotor, and it has shorty headers with flowmaster exhaust. what am i getting? what will be my hp and tq and what will the acceleration be like? and if you have a video closely related itd be great.

  • @GMurphSC06GT I've heard that if you have an auto go with 4.10's. But out of those two, i would go 3.73. I would either put 3.73 or 4.10's on anything. Nothing lower or higher

  • the temp is fine. mine runs at this and i have a after market thermostat and it reley dosent mater you might gain 1 hp from going to a colder thermostat if that a 1/2 hp maby and you dont want a to cool engion calls you need a little heat it burns off crap in your engion

  • To everyone who says you need a colder thermostat this is bad if you go too cold. In your engine the pistons when COLD are not perfectly round. When at proper operating temp your pistons are nice and round your. Oil is at the correct viscosity.

  • if you use a 160 it will run a little bit over cold in return giving you more fuel and better pick up..

  • wouldnt run a 160 on a NA engine, thats overcooling which will damage the engine. That heat is good for burning off the soot that accumulates in the oil.

  • Have used it for 3 years with royal purple oil and filter...never 1 issue and still get 20mpg.. Trust me,it makes a huge difference in the summer...your comment is incorrect

  • Actually the 4.6 SOHC is a pretty good engine. Very responsive to mods and very reliable. Thats why fleet cars (cops and cabbies) use them. Just because you don't like Ford doesn't mean you should give out false information. And I own a Camaro.

  • Actually the SOHC 4.6 is crap, ive seen a full bolt-on GT lose to a stock ls1, You wanna see a engine that respnds good to mods LS1, and i have a mustang, if you have a mustang and wanna hang with the big boys you need a DOHC 4.6.

  • you are right 4.6 does not respond to mods that well... i have a 98 mustang gt (pi swap, CAI, throttle body, tune, exhaust, tko500 tranny, sport clutch, etc. and it makes 260 to the wheels :( But i gotta admit it is hella quick. And how much does the stock ls1 makes whp even in auto model?

  • That's because Ford put low-restriction parts on the car. There cannot be a performance gain if there wasn't a restriction prior to modification.

    4.6ls DO NOT respond to bolt-on CRAP because it's just a marketing ploy. However, 4.6ls LOVE boost. They respond VERY well.

  • lol, i just bought a 02 t/a with the 6 speed bone stock. I havent driven it that much since i bought it because it needs to be insured... it does not seem as fast as some people claim it is...

  • If it makes you feel any better, my GT came over-rated by 50hp from factory. Claimed- 260. Actual- 210.

    No matter... It's double that now ;)

    But gears would DEFINITELY make your car jump.

  • If you are talking about a 99-04 mustang gt then it is normal for cars. Its "crank" hp is 260 but at the wheels it puts out 210- although i am not sure why yours puts out 210. Most that year gt's put 230 Wheel Hp bone stock.

  • what the hell are u talking about...do u even own one....i have an 02gt and it responded very well to the bolt-ons...u dont know shit...with just headers you can get 10rwhp or more since the stock exhaust manifolds are so restrictive...not to mention the intake manifold ,throttle body, and plenum which are to damn small stock..the heads are really restrictive...you dont know shit...i might have a factory freak 4.6 but with full bolt ons,gears, and a tune im putting down 312rwhp..

  • Yes, I own a 505hp GT with none of those stupid little bolt-ons. Heads are not considered "bolt ons." You are mistaken about headers. Most aftermarket headers on an N/A PI 4.6l cause you to lose torque and in many cases, LOSE hp. Also, please do not "add" gains. I doubt your "312" number is dyno proven.

  • headers do add hp if done with the proper mods...i never said heads were bolt-ons..backpressure is a bitch and is needed in different ways if stock....you loose Torque not hp though...like i said i might have a factory freak...ive seen 2 other gt's do the same and when they installed a comp xe262ah cam they put down 335whp...my 72 mach is pushing 650whp and im a certified ford tech. so i know a bit about stangs since i put the mach together and the gt also..when im done it should be at 600+whp

  • i think he has a supercharged gt, maybe kenne bell. Even so with only a kenne bell and no suporting mods, 2V gts only put down about 370whp on avg. That guy is a dumbass, he doesnt even have that at the crank, and thats if that car is even his....lol....I forgot to clown him on that before..

  • Actually, I never had 505hp with the "stupid little bolt-ons." I have an intercooled Kenne Bell 2.1l setup @ 9lbs and a Nitrous Express wet system running at 30 for a chemical intercooler. On top of that, I have the Kenne Bell big tube inlet kit which includes the 90mm MAFM and 75mm TB and various other modifications. Please do more research before running your mouth and making yourself look like a dumbass. The 2008 Project video is old.

  • There are numerous dyno sheets all around that show 4.6 and 5.4 NPI and PI engines with long tubes that gain 30+hp and 35+tq, if you think headers are useless and cause loss of torque you are WRONG. And bolt on's are anything that don't require custom fabrication, the supercharger bolted on, the heads bolted on, is it a stick on car?? That shit had to bolt-on, and I want to see this 505 RWHP 2v GT with 9 lbs, the stock cobra, with 4v heads that flow as good stock as any full port and polish 2v..

  • Don't trust all that you read on the internet. If you'd like to really prove me wrong, invest 1000$ in some headers and dyno your car. You'll lose torque. Trust me.

    Also, you're right about the whole "bolt-on" thing. By "bolt-ons" I mean those stupid little 50-200$ modifications that claim 20hp. Those are worth shit unless you're using FI.

  • If you believe that better cylinder scavenging, lower EGT, and reduced backpressure cause a loss of power, you are an IDIOT! I have done dyno tests, worked on race engines for Roush/Yates and Petty Enterprises, headers are ESSENTIAL. I can put $300 worth of headers on my Non-PI and gain 30+hp and 40tq, no problem. Check out the new K&N intake for the GT500, they advertise 53hp just from the intake, and it has been proven to produce 50+ hp to the tires! Bolt ons don't work, yea right! Try Again!

  • I should have said that you lose torque on a stock engine. Modified engines OF COURSE gain power. Sorry about that.

    But then again, when my car was stock it lost ALL torque with the cutouts open. Wouldn't that have the least amount of backpressure?

    I have seen numerous dyno sheets in which headers with larger diameter runners produce less torque than those with smaller diameter runners (and stock exhaust manifolds)

  • Still look into headers, maybe you are messing with shortys, I have never seen or heard of losing any torque with long tubes. And a engine requires some backpressure, you will loose torque with open manifolds or headers, and as for diameter. The tube diameter desired is dependant on horsepower and displacement(CID), bigger is not better EVER! Step tube headers will produce the most torque. If you lost torque with long tubes it was due to your lack of research and choice of headers!

  • I completely agree with you there. :)

    Personally, I have never lost torque due to headers because I'm running the stock exhaust manifolds. Ford actually did a good job on mine. Also, I was generalizing the whole header argument around my 4.6l 2v engine. Most engines pick up a good amount of power with headers, but my engine (in general) loses torque if the headers are too large for the power output (like you said above).

    Of course, FI applications warrant headers. I'm picking some up soon

  • I really don't thinks that's possible. 75mph@2600RPM = 180mph@6000 rpm, and with 3.73's close to 200mph@6000. My Z has a 4.08 and it tops at 160mph@7000. Unless it's an automatic tansmission, then this is possible.

  • he most likely is in his OD gear and i believe 4.10's run out at 120-130. the reason for this video i assume, was to see rpm's at highway speeds. any 4+ gears usually turn people away cause of this effecting gas mileage. i say go all the way with 4.30's

  • I guess that is feasable, 5th gear in a mustang is probably a little longer than in my Z due to a lower RPM range in the mustang.

  • well i know my 02 redlined when it was stock at like 5800 the powerband was 3500-5500. 5th gear usually isnt used in racing unless they do put 3.90-4.30's in. damn low revving fords. thank god mine can now rev to 6700

  • sorry but wrong. 4.10s will take you to just north of 160 in 5th near redline. thats just my experience though. and for the guy asking about what the 5th gear is in a mustang, its .62
