  • has anyone seen a tyre "implode" ?...no me neither !!

  • There goes the concorde and its taking all the respectable pilot wages with it.

  • xHurrendous, I never said I landed at Heathrow after taking off from New York - I stated clearly that I flew from Manchester on this aircraft, and that we did an amazing parallel landing at Heathrow with the concorde arriving from New York.

Please take the time to read comments properly before accusing strangers of lying - it's extremely rude.

  • i ♥ manchester

  • Concorde lost its license due to the FAA no renewing it.

The accident in paris was not the first time the tyres had imploded, it just so happned to be fatal this time around.

America (not the 'people') never wanted concorde to fly across the pond because they did not invent it.

  • why in hell do people clap for stuff like this? are you applauding the pilot? this isn't a performance here.... ugh

  • @bluestang302 Its being british clapping its rule of the sky and the best plane has ever been in production

  • no other plane could get a round of applause.......well execpt vulcan 558

  • @tractorboydavidbrown

    What about an SR-71?

  • MIA Tower: Speedbird Concorde, your cleared for take-off. We hope to have a moment of concorde here again someday. Have a nice flight.

Concorde FO: Cleared for Take-off, Speedbird Concorde. And Thanks.

    Everyone else: 4, 3, 2, 1, Full throttle.

God I wish I was in Concorde rather than my Brittania 767, near it.

  • I was lucky enought to be on this flight... Picked the back row, right above the engines! :-D

What a trip, ending with a fabulous parallel landing at Heathrow with the Concorde coming in from New York.

Lovely Speedbird, much missed. An emotional day and very happy memories!!!

  • @LadyCirrus i dont understand why people lie on youtube... You clearly weren't on this flight if you landed in Heathrow taking off from New York, when it clearly states this was filmed at Manchester Airport which is in the North of England... Why lie on here? It gets you no where, and just annoys people.

  • @xHurrendous If you knew anything about concorde, you would know she was talking about being on this flight from manchester to the row. So stfu next time.

  • @TheLn14 I'm not a plane enthusiast, so why would i know where its last flight was from/to? And never in that comment did she say she took off from Manchester.

  • what they could of done just add more technology into it like all the new aircraft have

  • they should of kept the concorde flying cuz it wasn't really concordes fault when that metal piece on the runway blew up tyre n caught fire

  • @TheAbds2000 I agree. Bloody stupid french groundcrew not doing their jobs properly. Thanks to them we have lost yet another british legendary aircraft.

  • @DJPaulgee1 although the crash and subsequent refit was costly, Concorde was "lost" due to rising oil prices and the fall in passenger numbers following 9/11 that led to both Britain and France withdrawing the aircraft long before her time. She would and should still be flying otherwise. May we one day see her fly again.

  • stupid, all because of one incident which wasent even the planes fault....

  • The world stepped back generations when they retired Concorde.

All we have now is ugly same old, same sounding planes. Yes we now have the A380 and some of the other stuff, but all they seem to focus on is keeping the designs the same.

Concorde was master of both speed, comfort and elegance. When you look at it compared to other craft it seems so delicate, elegant yet powerful, from a time when all cars were the same, now we focus too much of safety equipment and efficiency give back concorde!

  • Yep, was there that day too, at the end of the runway.

Was at Knutsford in a field to watch it came back, last flight into Manchester...with my 2 young girls so they could see a Concorde in flight :)

  • i was stood on one of the elevated LSG SkyChefs trucks on the last take off of SSC from MAN, and was also there when G-BOAC came "home" to MAN a week later

  • Miss you speedbird! You don't belong in museums :-(

  • I never seen so much commotion over a plane lol

  • I believe the US decided they were noise polluting because of the sonic boom during landing, basically sour grapes that we, UK as usual led the world in jet technology

  • you gotta love concorde eh?

  • No one has the guts to build a bird like this, anymore.

  • @331RBD EH EHM......tu-144

  • @benspreen I repeat myself: No one has the guts to build a bird like this, ANYMORE. And, the TU-144 pretty much ended up as a heap.

  • i remember these they look like space shuttles...i used to think they had rocket engines...

  • Brilliant aircraft, but it was just too colossally expensive to operate.

  • Save Concorde Group:

    save-concorde.co.uk/

  • some one put that concorde retired because it was European. Airbus's are British and there decent planes for gods sake!

  • @emilyxellis They retired because they were becoming not cost effective to run anymore.

  • @emilyxellis Lol since when Airbus are British? They're European and even more French than British... but well, they're awesome planes...

  • I remember the day well having arrived early and ready to take a few photos the police telling us to move. They then parked there car out came the cameras and they clicked away our day was spoilt by those prats.. Hence the expression Its a bobbys job.

  • @Backpacker1uk Not actually supposed to take photographs of airliners, jets etc for terrorism reasons. Police were doing their jobs.

  • What a great aircraft, shame we cant see it again.

  • concorde does not exicist anymore

  • Concorde: By far my favorite airplane!! I wish they would bring them back!!!!

  • I don't see why they don't make a new concorde. one with up-to-date technology that costs less to run, is quieter, better for the environment etc. one hell of a shame they grounded and retired these awesome monsters! I was also lucky enough to witness this last flight before she went into retirement.

  • Concord did eventually make money on flights, In America 202 were ordered but it was blocked because thef US plane makers wanted it blocked, The US Air force had engines that made more noise but this was used as an excuse, The fact is Concord could not be matched any where else in the world, The likes of Concord will be seen again, Maybe with a Chinese Flag on the side ?

  • She is such a beauty. I had to cry seeing her taking off for the last time. The best plane ever build. This time will never come back. Today everbody is talking about "break even" and stuff. This plane was never constructed to be like this. It was a vision for the future. This grace will be immortal. I saw/heard her. Nobody will forget seeing/hearing her. RIP Concorde !

  • @Slaterator I could not possibly agree more with what you said... Yes, I would've cried as well. Goodbye, beloved, cherished "Queen of the Skies"!

  • @NA734

Thank´s. I always said she is like a swan. Beautiful in the sky AND on the ground. She always looked like she was flying. Even on the ground. I guess we will never see a plane like this again, because of money. To loud, to much fuel needed, a bad cost-value ratio and simply to unreasonable. Like I said, it was a vision. I think Boeing and Airbus don't have the guts to build something like this again. Sad fact. So she will stay the "Queen of the skies"!

  • I went to Manchestern Airport on her goodbye flight,It flew a circle of Manchester then landed back in the airport and said goodbye by bowing her nose.It was so emotional!I love you concorde :)

  • I went down to Cheadle Hulme that day to watch it fly over for a final time. Very sad day. A big image from my childhood.

  • I refuelled her at Manchester on that last flight she did out of there

  • Many years ago, my girl friend saw it in Heathrow and she said "we are NOT flying to NY in that small thing, I hope" Ah ah girls

  • I miss airwinging those planes

  • Great catch! Wow, that KLM Fokker 70/100 was DIRTY!!

  • @onesiteonly LOL, Just a bit

  • @onesiteonly lol another plane sees it and heres the ATC conversations...

ATC: qantas 3475 cleared for pushback do you have the KLM fokker to your right in sight?

pilot: control...ive always wanted to say this...ive got the little fokker in sight!

  • at :40 its been replaced by that little gay crj that just taxied by.

  • @buschbeer100 The nose makes it look like an E-jet...

  • Ive been on the tour of concorde at manchester, fantastic piece of engineering, well in advance of its era,and yes there is 1 french concorde that has its engines turned over regulary and could possibly fly again, its about money.

  • become a fan on faceboook group

    Bring Back The Concorde!

  • Ha. You really think a few thousand people can bring back concorde? Look at it this way, Richard Branston asked to bring them back. He said he'd pay to bring the fleet back into action. He was just laughed at. Face it, it's not coming back.

  • Yeah, with fuel costs.....it's not coming back.

  • I'm sad

  • They should totally have just ONE concorde still flying. I'm sure people would be willing to pay for a flight on it. Doesn't have to be in daily service, just every now and then when they get it fully booked.

  • No the Russians copied the Concorde, Concorde was one of the safest aircraft but got wiped out by run way debris shredding a tire which in turn caused critical damage. Have a look on wikipedia

  • Very interesting story, as is the story of 'Concordeski'.

  • no its British

  • @mmaannuukk123 no its french

  • @maxrdhw It was a joint venture between BAC of Britain and Aerospatiale of France. So it is both

  • British and french made.

  • :O look at that KLM at 1.03 :L dirty planeee!

  • lol oh yeah! Probably has air-brakes that extend out from the tail, making the exhaust go over the plane's body. Have a look at a Tornado jet and the reversers do the same to those.

  • The reason for concorde being taken out of service was cost. The 747 for example could take far many more passengers for much less cost. Also the concorde was considered to noisey for some airports, Brazil for example banned it from landing due to exessive noise. Read wikipedia......All the answers are there

    Peace dudes !

  • The 747 issue killed off sales, but not the aircraft being in service. Concorde had and would still have a unique niche that no 747 could cater for. BA made a LARGE profit.

Several aircraft are noisier than Concorde, including the 707's that were once used as Air Force one. The Brazil issue was in the early 60's like many other countries - they all eventually gave in, accepting it was quieter than they made out and gave in to the allure of Concorde.

Wikipieda can be a pile of crap sometimes.

  • So where did she finally touch down??

    =[

  • Well... Heathrow.

  • still a sexy design.

  • damn 1 day their gnna put thiz back in service.diz iz a legend if not im goin 2 make 1

  • I hope they really really do put this back in service. Nothing to describe put pure british motoring perfection! It would be also gurrd in the 2012 olympics if they could do a low fly by with this.

  • no, too expensive and the french stopped supplying parts for her, and all the blueprints and casts had been destroyed after all of the aircrafts were built

  • No they haven't you moron.

  • NASCARRELIC :

That, and I think also the higher fuel and mainteinance costs. Two space shuttles have been destroyed, but the others are still flying.

  • Beautiful, gorgeous bird!!!

  • I have never seen a concord in real life before

  • i'd loved to have flown on the concorde if i had the opportunity its such a shame

  • Why did they retire the concorde anyway?

  • it never retired it cos of a bad crash its cos it was costing to much to run

  • no way they only had like 8 of the things mate

  • The crash helped seal the deal for sure though.

  • @blimp221 Only BA and Air France purchased them, and they were subsidized by their respective governments....

  • @blimp221 damn your written english sucks man

  • @blimp221 Update the Engines, Avionics and the interior and she'll be like new.

  • @blimp221 Ermm, yes it did retire..

  • Comment removed

  • @blimp221 and because it was European.

  • @blimp221 with not much income right???

  • @blimp221 Concorde just as much to run An A380

  • @blimp221 They never said they retired it because of the crash correct it was because of cost's also its age

  • bring the concorde back!!!

  • yeah bring it back

  • @guffy18 Not cost effective I'm afraid.. it's not coming back!

  • @guffy18 WHO!!

  • if i won euro lotto about 100 million euro i would defo buy it and cut the price down to make it huge sucess and make it environment friendly if i can

  • Okay...

    Um... you do that...

    ?!

  • You seriously need your brain looking at.

  • It's either sarcasm, or agent has no brain at all.

The Concorde was and will always be an important piece of aviation history.

  • I LIVE NEAR MANCHESTER AIRPORT :)

  • ummm.....

    wow?

  • im going to faliraki on june 3rd take off at 10am be sure to give us a wave lol!! I live in chester so not far away!!

  • Unfortunately, many of the regular concorde customers were killed in the 9/11 attacks. Then the downturn in the economy, plus the increase in fuel costs, sealed the deal. Both Boeing and Lockheed Martin have discussed making their own supersonic passenger jets recently.. that tells you the business model could still work.

  • No, Boeing and Lockheed Martin have NOT discussed supersonic passenger jets recently.

  • unfortunately it was the fat cats a b.a that sealed her fate she would still be flying now if richard branson was allowed to buy them but b.a said no and she was scraped.they new he would make it work where they could not.its a god dam shame i was there at fairford when she was doing the last flight test before taking passengers, now shes gone for good.

  • Concorde was not scrapped. 18 of the 20 built are still here today... one crashed and one was used for parts by AF - but this sadly corroded and had to be scrapped in 1994.

  • P2)

That unfortunate crash occured in year 2000, and concorde retired in 2003. Reasons for concordes removal from service were, september 11th attacks, low passengers, rising maintenance and fuel costs.

  • agree wid you....

the reason for concorde shutting down was purely financial....prices were three times more than a 777 in a trans atlantic flight and after 9/11 with the airline industry going in a slump it had to shut down....if i am not mistaken concorde, even with their astounding prices never really had profits worth showing

  • BA made around £50 Million a year during it's peak. Air France less so, with it's peak around the equivalent of £2-3 Million.

Ticket prices were generally First Class + 20%. This was to differentiate it from First Class itself, however and could have been marketed for less, but it would cannibalize the more profitable First Class services.

  • If Virgin took it on (That's a huge IF, because they had pretty much no chance, sadly), I guess because of their lack of First Class (Having Upper Class as top service which is business class), they could have sold tickets with lower margins, got more people to fly and ultimately make Concorde work again.

I'm not saying I'm right, but it makes sense.

Anyway, AF wanted out after sending millions on mods after the crash, BA weren't doing too well either, so Airbus pulled the plug.

  • P1)

what an earth are people talking about, concorde crash rate???!, concorde crashed only once in its "27 years" of service, and that "1" crash happened because of a strip of metal fell from the reverse thrust of a DC-10, which took of moments before the concorde. So when concorde started its takeoff roll and as it ran over that metal strip lying on the runway, it punctured concordes tires and rubber pieces from that tire hit concorde's fuel tank.

  • woww, so beautiful when the concorde went around..i luv it

  • y concorde dnt fly anymore??

  • production costs and not to mention the high crash rate and the matinence costs

  • High crash rate? Are you an idiot?

It only crashed one time! And that was the paris crash! Production costs aren't an issue on the fact that there is no production. It all came down to spare parts and maintenance!

    And a decline in passangers

  • no im not i just got from a guy a few pages over :)

  • not only one crash you idiot read about it...

  • It happened once. One crash. No more than that.

  • the Concorde is stil in Manchester Airport i wos there last month it is so good when you fly past it but the Concorde shud go past us stil in the skys R.I.P :(

  • nooooooooooooo dont leave us concorde ur da best i flew on u a long time ago

  • she's now permanantly parked there. at least she was 2 years ago :)

  • Yeah she's still there. Next to the runway.

  • @ChrisHamer can she still work? or is she dis-abled..

  • @PuffMac: she still is.

  • CONCORDE FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • when was this taken?

  • Concorde is not as good as the DC-10. Long live the DC-10

  • DC-10 for the masses...........CONCORDE for the classes!

  • dc 10s suck and have horrible safety records. Concorde is much better!!

  • omg

dc-10...... this was not a plen this was a trash can

  • DC10? It made the concorde crash

  • In a way. Long story, look it up on a reliable website - i.e. BBC news ect.

  • i remember goin to Spain i was flying from manchester airport and seeing a concorde in like 2002 what a magnificent sight shame it was took out of surface a big let down for aviation

  • It was probably around the same time i took this video. It was around late 2002, late 2003 i think.

  • So beautiful - slightly spoilt by those ugly manc accents in the background..

  • I LOVE THE CONCORDE!!!!!!

  • personally 777's are alot more comfortable with alot more room

  • haha nice to see the good old dirty fokker F100/70 tail in that vid :]

  • hehe :P thats KLM:D

  • I love that plane, looks like the same one that comes from Newcastle, the fokker.

  • ive been on concorde, its tiny but its a great aircraft

  • Concorde was the best, Period!

  • i was lucky enough to get into the cockpit of this beautiful plane

  • Thankyou ChrisHamer, I had a tear in my eye as I watched this. Never did a plane capture the public's imagination and affection in the way Concorde did, I work at Manchester Airport every day and whilst it's always nice to see everyone run to the window when a 747 comes out, to see people applauding an aircraft's departure is simply wonderful. I thank my Mum every day for taking me to see her take off when I was 8, I'll never forget it. God speed Concorde, the world misses you!

  • farewell beautiful Lady....

  • is this the seconnd 1 if so this was the 1 me uncle flew

  • What other airplane gets an applause when it takes off? I love Concorde.

  • when boeing launched the 777, seattle cheered and clapped.

  • yes, but does the 777 go faster than sound.

  • no, but first class on the 777 IMO out sells the concorde any day. The love affair with the jumbo jet imo is far easier to grasp than a pencil shaped plane that hauls ass,imo

  • I would fly on a concorde over a 777 any day. There were only ever 3 concordes made.

  • 3? they made 20 Concordes, 14 went into service, 1 crashed, 1 was dismantled for spares. the other 4 where prototypes

  • I mean use by BA.

  • That would be 7 then
