It's because of the assassination attempt. In the manga, the Black Fang doesn't exist. He just poisons him. Zephiel fakes death, and kills his father at his funeral. Murdock helps Zephiel fake death. The manga is Hasha no tsurugi, read it at Onemanga. They have it completed.
If you think this chapter is hard in HHM, wait till you see Cog of Destiny. After getting through that, Victory or Death is just grinding (although I guess if you're trying to get the gaiden, it's really hard) and the final chapter is disappointingly easy.

Your layout for this map isn't very wise, you should take out Heath and Florina since there are reinforcements in this chapter with lots of Archers and Snipers. Instead put in Sain and Kent since most of the enemies use swords and you need to get to Jaffar and Nino as quick as possible.
Legault tends to be a little better of a choice. Matthew has unneccesarily high HP for a thief, and that makes him sacrifice a little in damage and defense. Legault can actually turn out better than Jaffar if you go for it.

Karel moves and acts exactly like Guy. Guy's actually a stronger version of him if you chose to promote him. (As Raven is a stronger version of Harken.)
The difference is the supports... They can support quite differently, and even with each other. I plan to display all of his conversations eventually
In HHM.. the members that we once enemies get a 1-6 initial stat boost to all attributes except luck... that is 1-9 i believe... so both raven and guy fall in this category.. there for... should be better off than the prepromote counter parts...
get raven 2 lvl 20 be4 promotin raven and ull see raven having a great str,skill spd, and hp than harken does. man, i got raven's str, skill and spd at max by lvl 10 and his hp dat time is bout at 52!! i didnt use any stat boost items like angelic robe, energy ring, speedwing, etc.

I've always found that Harken has a greater strength than Raven, while Raven has better skill and speed.

that's not true at all...
Raven's growths outclass all of Harken's except Def and Res
in fact, Raven has a Str growth of 55% as opposed to Harken's rather paltry 35%
