I love discovering new art museums and galleries,i'm an art lover and collector my self....during high school i spent most my days hopping from one art galleries and museum to another.Berkeley and San Francisco California is an art lover paradise..if you live in the Bay Areas.Nothing pleases me more than ar,we all seek happiness in something, for me it's art.Its where i find beauty and creativity, there are no greater mental stimulation. What in the world isn't art right Dennis ??
Are you a collector? This blog was set up for you tipsforartcollectors.
I like what he said about collectors being the caretaker of the art for the future. You've got to take care of it and pass it along to the next generation in good shape.
So much has been written about Hopper's substance problems, temper, divorce situation. None of this matters. He had an incredible eye and a passion for art that is only rarely encountered. I hope his extraordinary collection will end up in a museum, in its entirety, not broken up to satisfy anyone's financial desires. I'd love to see it at the Geffen Gallery at MOCA.
I somehow don't want those pictures to be taken by others, even if they are his heirs. They belong to him. But I guess there's no use complaining, he is gone.
Perhaps the most cliche art collection I've ever seen. Schnabel's portrait is horrible. And Kenny Scharf's work is childish to say the least. Just a matter of opinion. Thanks for the post though.
Amazing Method Actor, and as it would appear a Connoisseur of Art. The rich and famous tend to buy Art for investment - he seems to have a great love and appreciation for Art doing what it is supposed to do - Jump out and smack you right betwee the eyes lol I mean evoke emotion in one - whatever that emotion is as long as it stirs the human soul. Great Post.
Thanks for this video. The Campbell Soup he bought in 1962 at the Ferus Gallery in LA was one of only 5 that sold during the show. Warhol was so disappointed that he asked the dealer Irving Blum to buy them back, which he did. Blum kept them as a whole and in the 1990's sold them all to Moma for 15 milion $!
Thanks for posting this interesting insight into Hopper. He collects art for the right reasons: inspiration. He knows when a painting speaks to his soul because it rings as loud as a church bell. He never needs to ask why; he accepts it as Truth. He's plugged in. A true collector.
Great actor, great collector and he had impeccable taste and integrity.
A sad loss. R.I.P.

I think it would be a great tribute to Dennis for his family to keep his collection together, but that will never happen sadly.

..."I don't care about the artists' intention. Either I get it or I don't". I so believe in that! Thanks for sharing this video!

I didn't think it was possible to like him more than I already do--good video, loved especially the portrait of him with the broken glass.
