Woah thank you so very much YEAROFOX never seen him speak before and I-ve followed him since I first heard SPIRAL. Pure talent and a big statement to defy all those who insist on electronic music being cold and inexpressive. Great posting.
I'd been listening to his music for years but amazingly never hard his voice before also ,why can't you buy his live concert dvd's apart from Mythodea?
Nee klopt, ik werd even op het verkeerde been gezet door de muziek en riep wat me het eerst te binnen schoot, maar ben driftig aan het zoeken! :) zodra ik het weet geef ik een gil ,
I remember one summer long ago, walking on the hot summer beach alone with my prized new "portable" Sony Pro Cassette Walkmen and headphones and listening to a tape of Vangelis's music. I suddenly had this euphoric feeling. What a special memory - I can still bring back that perfect combination of sun, blue waves and Vangelis's music going through my head :)
I remember listening to a minitape my dad had on the very first stereo headphones available,1980?It was Antarctica.Switched on Bach too.Really made an impression on me.
Same here, same age, remember missing the metro to spijkenisse after this show. The parents of the friend i stayed with had to come and pick us up, they were not amused, we didn't care, the show was awesome. Same scenery was used in Jackie Chan Who am I. They used Pakhoed building for a great stunt. Vangelis used it for laser projection.
vangelis is the man, his music is all known all over the world, his melodies are very evocatives but his character is quite close shy and misterious, like one of his themes, vangelis is the unknown man....
Wait, Jon and Vangelis actually appeared live together in '91? There had to have been some serious "burying of the hatchet" after the whole Page of Life debacle for *that* to happen.
the rift between the two only occurred after Jon released his version of "page of life" in 1998 which used some variations of the tracks without Vangelis's approval..and this led to the issues.
Actually we both have it wrong: Page of Life came out in August of 1991 (according to Amazon, anyway). If this event was in June then perhaps the shit had yet to hit the fan regarding what Jon had done. This event was probably the last time the two worked together. Shame, really...
nop... the original "page of life" was released in 91 ..Jon released a version of it in 98..there are two versions..each have differnt covers and slightly different to very different versions of the tracks, and indeed different tracks alltogether.Vangelis never gave the 2nd version his blessing and is what lead to the problems.
Jean Michel Jarre', Tomita, Tangerine Dream, Enigma, Delirium, Pink Floyd...all greats. But no one is as prolific, as celestial, as grand or as great a composer as Vangelis. His music transcends all words. It's wonder and depth consistently describe the true emotion and awe in life. And, he rarely...if ever...repeats a chord sequence, a melody or a sound. True genius! I've created my best artwork whilst listening to his music...since 1976.
Vangelis is probably the best living composer! I could lose myself in my mind listening to his music!!!! Jarré and the others are great as well but, personally, I consider Vangelis a step higher. Most of the composer cited by Nadaaf reached the excellence with some songs, but Vangelis did it more constantly!!!! A living Genius!!!!
It seems that, for you, if smbd's playing the keyboards, it's the same shit, right? Wtf has to do Kraftwerk with Mike Oldfield? They have nothing, but NOTHING in common! (except the "keyboards" thing). Or you have an "electroniclate70s&early80s" category, where you put all of these? And Giorgio Moroder was never conceptual. Funny and melodical - kind of. Successfuly comercial - YES. Deep? I don't think so.
and remember...Tangerine Dream and Isao Tomita.....but they are all different styles. The best sounding ones in the 70s were Vangelis and Jarre. Moroder's From Here to Eternity is one of my all time favorites in the synth world. Great piece of music.
Thanks for posting this. I remember reading in Lighting & Sound International, just after the concert took place, that for this concert they had a 7,500K sound system ! That is HUGE. I would of loved to of been there.
You never know with electronic music that I love and have collected over 20 years and more. Not sure about Vangelis but I get that feeling with Jarre and the crowds he usually takes onto stage with him.
I read the review of this gig in Light And Sound International. They used 7500kw of sound. Thats HUGE. Jean-Michel Jarre's 1990 Paris La Defense concert used 2500k, to put it into perspective. Thanks for posting this video. I wish they would bring it out on DVD. Think again.. 7500KW of sound system LOL !!!

BRING THEM BACK!
Thousands of pieces of Greek antiquities are hosted in the British Museum. Our campaign does not ask for the return of those.
We ask for the return of the Parthenon Marbles in Greece and the Reunification of the Monument.
We, the users of the Internet obtain power and we are able to mobilize the international public opinion. Our goal can be achieved this way.
Do you believe this is fair? If yes, help this goal come true.
Say your own BRING THEM BACK!

I remember this, I was 18 years old back then, the weather was bad that day, his synths got wet real good.
In that same year, only a couple of months later, I joined the Dutch Defence Forces...good times.

Led Zeppelin in their heyday used a 70,000 Watt sound system and were often branded as too loud. How does 7500kw compare to 70,000 Watt? Lol! :)
