Wait...wait...wha...0:26. Why is that plane taking off with covers over his intakes? Is the other main intake open, and that one closed? I can't imagine why. Is he flying with auxilary intakes over the LEX's? Really strange. What kind of plane is that, anyway? I don't recognize it.

Thats Yak-130. It has auxillary intakes up and those below are closed to prevent any object or bird striking into engine during take-off. Same thing is when he is landing. MiG-29 has that same system like Yak-130.

They also retract up. I uploaded video called Rusian air force - Yak-130. Here it is watch?v=Ye7jQN0212I ..... at 1:42 there is scene on runway when he is lowering those doors/covers. There are also aux intakes on upper side of fuselage. Its same like on MiG-29.

@15thsquadron01 Heavily upgraded you mean, and the E isn't meant for air combat, its a multirole, you're thinking of the C... also, its never faced off in real combat against a worthy adversary, pilot or aircraft wise. It wouldn't stand a chance in a close range dogfight against the newer Russian stuff though. The newer Su-30 and Su-35 Flanker models will outright fly circles around the F-15.

F-15 needs to be upgraded with thrust-vectoring at the very least, not to mention electronically.

There one test plane that was an Eagle with trust button broken here nozzels and canards. Of course the E is a two person multi role. the silent eagle looks so cool.

@15thsquadron01 You're thinking of the F-15 ACTIVE and F-15 MTO-STD. They were testbeds awhile back. The thrust vectoring nozzles worked beautifully in that thing, but the canards had some issues.

Why they never upgrade the F-15s with just the thrust vectoring though... I don't know. Just more stupidity out of Washington I suppose. Probably the same idiots who said "dogfighting is dead" shortly before we went into Vietnam, lol.

@YaHuyeyuNna I thought it was interesting that although Cold War Western media made it out that NATO was waiting for a massive Russian armored assault, the evidence pointed the other way. Many NATO war games, equipment were biased towards the assault, not defense. A Russian tank can depress it's gun far more than an M1 Abrahams, ideal for firing from a "hull down" defensive position. Russian planes are mainly for point defense with ground control, not attack. Curious, isn't it?

I rather liked the trip back in time at around the 1 minute mark. Those were the planes that could literally darken the skies with their numbers during the Cold War. The newer planes are amazing and exceptionally capable but significantly less in numbers.
