  • Accordng to Mel Torme, they co-wrote it during a god-awful heat wave in New York. They were in an apartment with no air conditioning, and thought that if they wrote a Christmas song, they would think cool thoughts. Appearance on Johnny Carson.

  • @cyndilee5529 As singergal57 said, was co-written by Mel Torme and pro song writter Bob Wells in 1944. The song was first offered to Bing Crosby who passed on it. It next went to Nat who recorded it 2 years later in 1946.

  • this one is preatty cool for christmas i guess and for classical

  • THIS SONG BRINGS SO MANNY MEMORIES

  • This is the only version people should listen to. Justin Bieber? Lord help us.

  • He's the best

  • I don't understand how anyone (let alone 2) can give this a thumbs down.

  • I'm in agreement with all the comments that Nat does THE best version of this song. Guess it's a good thing Bing Crosby passed on it, when it was offered to him first.

  • @sucmylefnut Of course King Cole sings it best; he wrote it.

  • @cyndilee5529

Nope it was Mel Torme that wrote it.

  • no one does it better than nat (the) king..

  • I went to type this in the Youtube search engine and the first thing I got was a version by Justin Bieber. I don't want to live on this planet anymore. -_-

  • @ShaneRBeacham I checked it out, that is really bad.

  • @ShaneRBeacham same thing. i actually had to put his name in to get it. :areyoufuckingkiddingme: lol

  • I have to agree with everyone else. Nat's version is THE BEST EVER!!! It always manages to bring a HUGE smile to everyone's faces. And that's coming from a 23 yr old :-)

  • 1961 Nat King Cole Version....

  • @DeconPossessed This is for sure Nat King Cole, but it is the latest version of the song. Most other youtube postings are of his original version.

  • @maynardcat How late a version can it be? Nat has been gone for so long. There are just certain elements of this recording that don't ring true to my ear. I'cve heard Nat's re-recordings and I know the original. This one doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

  • @DeconPossessed It came from my large CD set I have of Nat King Cole, and is the latest stereo version Here is the info you need. The Christmas Song Cole recorded that tune four times: on June 14, 1946, as a pure Trio recording, on August 19, 1946, with an added string section, on August 24, 1953, and in 1961 for the double album The Nat King Cole Story; this final version, recorded in stereo, is the one most often heard today),

  • @maynardcat Thanks for the info. I am guessing that Nat was just trying hard to recreate the original sound. That must be what I am hearing. Thanks.

  • @DeconPossessed Sometimes when you are use to listening to a certain version of a song anything other than that sounds really different to you. I noitced that when I recently posted the song Silver Bells by Doris Day, and heard an earlier version that she recorded it sound completely different, and liked the later version. The same with It's Magic by Doris Day, I liked the later one best, but it is all really a matter of taste. I'm glad I was of some help on this & enjoyed the comments

  • @maynardcat hey this definitely is nat cuz this is the best version of this song ever!!!! i love it!!! steven spielberg even used this version in the movie "catch me if you can" (thts a good movie by the way!!) this is the best christmas song ever cuz it makes u feel good if you have had good memories of family during the holidays. christmas is the best ever!!! and this will be my first xmas with a girlfriend im so excited for the new memories and love with her and all my family and everyone!!!

  • Respond to this video... this song is so awesome spielberg used it in "catch me if you can" personally this is the best rendition of this song and the best xmas song period!! it makes u nostalgic of ur christmas memories no matter what ur age or generation or race or beliefs. thts why the whole world celebrates xmas its so cool. family, special someone, friends, and the memories to look back on. im only 20 and this song sparks nostalgia of christmas as far as the 1950s lol...

  • @maynardcat AGREE! this is definitely Nat King Cole! even the radio stations play this version of the song too and they say its Nat King Cole so yeah. i HIGHLY DOUBT, radio stations would play a song by a Nat King Cole impersinator..

  • @DeconPossessed You've obviously hit the eggnog a wee bit too hard. This is the most difinitve recognizable mix of Nat King Cole singing THE CHRISTMAS SONG. Happy holidays to ya anyway.

  • @DeconPossessed if thats the case then its a damn good impersonation

  • @DeconPossessed you fool ! this is nat king cole ! no one can imitate such a unique voice. and the recording has just been cleared with today's technology

  • Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Blessed New Year to everyone :3

  • This is the Best Christmas song that i ever heard,it melt my heart.

  • @allendale1962

    Agreed, no one :o)

  • This brings you into a fine Christmas spirit ! Very much enjoyed it ! :>)

  • Brings back lots of old memories of Christmases when I was a kid back in the 1950's!! Love it!!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

  • I make a point to keep christmas in my heart all year long. Most times it's the only thing that gives me hope and peace.

  • i am so freakin excited for christmas, i still cant sleep on christmas, i just love the atmoshpere! its 61 days 2 hours 8 minutes and 8 seconds till christmas

  • This is really beautiful. I could stare at that picture all day. That's the version of the song that have too.

    Merry Christmas! Thanks.

  • Very nice! Merry Christmas! We are finally getting some cool weather in Fort Worth-high of 45 tomorrow! Hey, my RCA Orthophonic keeps making a purring noise between songs-I hit with wd 40 on record spindle and under gear spindles-what else can I do?

    Sammy J

  • Very nice, makes me want to put the tree up !!

  • This sounds like a re-recording or alternate take. Nat's singing is very close to the original, but the arrangement sounds different.

  • Hi vwestlife I think you are right this is not the original 1946 version, it is a later version, probably 1950's or early 60's

  • @maynardcat

Where can I find this DVD?

  • @Majabjerring Hi This is not a DVD,this is just a video that I made, and I am not sure where I obtained this scene to create it. Now if you meant CD for the music, I believe it is available at Amazon.com. Due to the popularity of Nat King Cole you might check locally for the CD they might just have it in stock this time of year , and if they don't I am sure they can order it.

  • @vwestlife yes. you are correct. This is the version currently played by ALL radio stations, and found on ALL Christmas compilations. The original version is available only on the original 45RPM record, and 78RPM.

  • @vwestlife +1 - I agree - I've been looking on youtube for the real one for about 20 minutes now... :(

  • our local PBS ch would show a nice fireplace scene whilst playing christmas songs. we don't have a fireplace, so I just left that ch on the TV, cuz the music was really nice too.
