  • So we can use goggles when we are taking the test?

  • @muffinn28 no, well i wassent anyway

  • im from uk and im going to to my life guard course

  • 0:02 that is from paul nelson pool.

  • Hey, I am going to take this precourse test soon and I have been told you need to have the brick out of the water with 2 hands. Is this true?

  • @xForgottenShadowx yes it is, its sort of a latex covered brick. it sounds much harder than it is. i have seen people who are very out of shape and little swimming experience do it so don't sweat it. its easy

  • This stuff is all basic intermediate-level stuff. It's designed to weed out the obvious "you're out of your league" people from the ones who will pass the actual lifeguarding course, or "might" pass the actual lifeguard course. It's just a pretest. If it looks hard, consider signing up for adult swim, or even one-on-one swim training. Once you get into the actual course, you'll have a terrible time if the stuff in this video looks challenging.

  • this looks easy, but than again my Size 14 feet are like paddles

  • Thanks. I may have to do lifeguard training and now I know where I need practice. For rhythmic breathing is it breath in, go under, go above and breathe out, go under and resurface to breathe in again?

How about front crawl? Is that breathe in on one side, out on the other side?

    Thanks :~)

  • do a scissor kick along with pushing your hands down to your sides to get up out of the water then bring your weight down and keep your feet and legs together. when your submerged under water you use your hands and have them to your sides then raise them up above your head so it pushes you further down into the water and repeat that motion with your hands to further yourself to the depth needed. hope this helps i suck at explaining things :P

  • How do you surface dive?!?!

  • the girl doing freestyle i not correct

her head is not down and when she kicks she bend her legs

  • ya you can. i might have to do that if i really want to be a lifeguard

  • I was stressing so much but this is really easy guys no worries. I am a three sport athlete though, but never a water sport! good luck

  • is the brick ten pounds in this video?

  • just lean all the ways back and itll be soooooo much easier i just got recertified 2 weeks ago.. most the time you can even use one hand to swim and one hand holding it

  • Can you wear goggles?

  • @slpcharlieb ya

  • @slpcharlieb yes u can.

  • this helped so much .

  • That's cool I looked it up and it says on their website that the training for city life guard starts in January! Is that true? So there is no way I can start my classes now?

  • This really isn't that bad. This is the American Red Cross training. I am Red Cross and YMCA trained. I am a YMCA Lifeguard and we require participants to swim 500 yards along with the brick retrieval and treading water as a prerequisite. I also work at the YMCA.

  • They neglected to mention that you're not actually allowed to use goggles for the brick retrieval test, only the 300 swim...

  • 300 yards... SHIT

  • After my first class I do not take laps as easy as I thought lol I still love swimming though

  • My class starts on Friday this week :) I'm super excited!

  • I passed it 2 days ago and did 2 extra laps by mistake. My will power is to strong to Give up ;)

  • i'm a petite 5' sixteen year old girl. i can swim 300 alright. will i be a successful lifeguard?

  • how deep is the water ?

  • @ninjaxELLY well it depends on the pool, most are 7-10 feet but where im doing my training it is 12 feet :(

  • @ninjaxELLY 7-10 feet. They'll do it at whatever the deepest end of the pool you're training at, though, so if it's deeper than 10 feet that's what they'll put you at.

  • ok 300 yard is only 12 laps and its never been called front crawl i would know cause im a swimer that like a pro swimmer and in FREESTYLE you have to breathe every three strokes its the rules nad 100 yard is only 4 laps

  • @22cameroon22 I passed it today, it was kinda hard. cuz by the end of my fourth freestyle lap, i was out of breath, breaststroke was such a relief. I dont usually say this, but that test overall was harder than wrestling practice.

  • really helpful. i got a question though.

For the 300 yards continuous, about the turns, does it matter if we do a proper turn or not?

  • I've been told that you can either do it with both hands on the brick or have it on your hip with a sidestroke, which is better? And I know that different programs tell you to do it both ways.

  • Thank You soooo much... I've been looking for something like this for awhile! I'm probably going to take the course in the next few months! This was really helpful!

  • @nooneuno9312 LOL no maybe ina few years dude this is the easiest shit in the world im 12 and I have been able to do that for years im training because im so advanced to be a lifegaurd though but its a lot more tough than that i start out with a 750 yard swim and pick POEPLE off the bottom of a DEEP pool and/or put them on a board thing i forgot the name from a spinal hold at the bottom too

  • @Robplayscod So are you even a Lifeguard?
