@fatimmortal Apple definitely dropped the ball with it. There is a lot of potential with it, but they want to make what they want; not what their customers want. The fact that you HAD to buy the usb (why not firewire?) superdrive separately was lame. I have a love hate relationship with Macs.
@fatimmortal I use both and both have their shortcomings. Its definitely a good thing to know how to use both systems... and buying a intel mac that dualboots both systems is a definite plus... but I dont have a spare $2000 lying around.
If you cannot afford a shiny new mac, like me, then you really are not missing too much. Windows 7 is an excellent OS and spending half the amount on a PC will leave you with an ultimate system.
Well, tbh, I've used Mac OSX before and I didn't like it. So I bought a few laptops in the past years with Windows and felt as if I just went into Paradise.
Currently using Win7 with my Asus laptop that I bought for 1k with 3 years unlimited warranty and it feels so much better than OSX.
Of course, it's just a personal preference for me. I just love messing with hundreds of settings on 7.
@fatimmortal My first time using Seven was just like my first experience with XP... completely awesome. "An operating system that works? Is someone pulling my leg? Can't be real." But it oh so is.
I hand built my desktop. Gigabyte mobo, AMD Phenom X4, Nvidia DDR3 graphics card, 4 Gigs of Ram, Coolermaster Mid Tower Case, 22" AOC LCD screen.
$180 for the processor and mobo, $40 for the ram, $125 for the screen, and $50 for the GPU. Everything rates about a 6.0 and up on the windows benchmark.
@fatimmortal I love using my G4 Powerbook. OSX is definitely something to get used to... it does some things easier than windows and some things harder... the biggest complaint is the lack of supported peripherals... either it works or it does not. Windows will get something to work even if it is half ass.
If you have ever messed with Linux or Unix based OSs, OSX works the way you would want them to work.
Do you have the Asus jet fighter laptop? Cuz the new Asus laptop is badass.
@tigresslover My first XP wasn't so great, it was a budget 300 dollar build with a Celeron, 256mb ram, IGP, 40GB HDD.
My first Vista...Don't get me started on the crap I had to endure.
My first 7, this laptop....I sweat day and night for a week over how awesome and fast it is.
My first OSX....uh....was an iBook that some dude just randomly gave me. It was awesome, until I realised that I couldn't do much on it other than Photoshop and surf the net. =.=
@fatimmortal Though I didnt have vista too long before I upgraded to 7, I really didnt have too many problems with it. I found it to be very resource hungry.
I had one gig of ram in my desktop when I first built it, Vista almost always ate up the gig just doing normal tasks. I added two more gigs later and saw a marginal increase.
7 just works better and will work with what you have.
I went into the apple store with three of my friends and we booted all the ipods into recovery mode and he put some idiotic youtube video on the apple television xD
@Bizzozeron lol that is funny. What i did was i inverted all the screens on the macs, and when the ppl went on it they were confused as to y all the colour were messed up. But he most funny part was when one of the employess was trying to fix it for quite a while and couldnt. btw this was done with my brother i was not alone.
i like that thing... if it would come down in price by 200-300 dollars and include the optical drive and the Ethernet usb adapter, then i may look into one... otherwise it is way over priced by far..
Clock speed is a correct term -- it is a bit of an older term, but it is indeed correct. The 'system clock' was the main clock on the motherboard, and all the timing came off of that, or were multiples of that.
Correct. You are paying for the looks (translates into paying for the ultra thin form factor) -- exactly. I totally agree. To pay for the 'feature set', you get yourself into an 'FF' class MacBook Pro. And for price/performance, the MacBook. They have all bases covered. The ultimate combo? An FF-class MacBook Pro, and then the Air for travel. Nice (and expensive too!).
your the fucking shit one as steve jobs said no one is going to miss the optical drive and the reason it hasent got one built in is because its so think and you can buy the external one if u want so do your research
Maker - the phrase "Yes, I'll take two of 'em' was a joke. I typically say that when I see something that is very expensive, but highly desirable. With regard to why I called the video "MacBook Hair" -- well, I got a HAIR cut, and then I went to the Apple store to see the MacBook AIR -- I thought that was kinda obvious, but there is your answer!
and its such a waste of money too. I mean, i got an HP Pavilion Notebook, it works perfectly, its got a 103 gig Hard Drive, and the ram is 2 gigs. It's about an inch thick when closed, and it was about 700 dollars. And if something goes wrong, u can talk to an hp assistant and they will fix it up for free!
Alex, yes, it's expensive. A MacBook gives you a better 'bang for the buck.' The Air is a 'second laptop', oriented towards an executive traveller who needs it to be VERY LIGHT!
Congrats on the partnership, Al! I guessed you were applying when I saw your channel was having a makeover! Good luck to you, no one deserves it more than you, having entertained us royaly for over a year!:)

I know you're going to get one of these things...seriously. You have a MacBook Pro 17 inch 2.4GHz. Now with something like that, everyone needs a bit more aluminum notebook in their life.
Jacob, while I did not buy it (I was joking about the 'take 2 of 'em'), Adam B did say "Oh, Al, once you get your hands on one, you will want one." As a second laptop, it's very cool, very light, very sturdy, and very thin. We'll see. Oh, and the MacBook Pro is 'FF' -- yes, I got it at 2.6 ghz.
Regis, in the Boca mall. Ask for Melia. She is off on Thursdays and Sundays, and is in after 3 pm the other days. Tell her Alfred sent you. She will get a kick out of that.
you know, of all the reasons I tune into your videos, the main one is I can be guaranteed a laugh... keep the videos coming man (and good luck with that batman symbol ;))
My friend Larry. I bumped into his wife and three daughters at the mall. When I told Larry about the MacBook Air, his oldest daughter said "Ohh, Daddy, I want one!" and I replied back with the classic "NO."
Hi Naton - I'll tell you, I was looking at an 'FF' class black MacBook to replace the Pismo. And then, yes, I looked at the air. But, damn, the Pismo just lives on. It looks like it is from the future, and the upgrades make it fully functional. This comment is coming to you -- from the damn ratty old Pismo!
I played with one at our apple store. It is thin but sturdy. It really is nice. But it just isn't a full featured laptop. I agree with Al. It is a second laptop. With only one usb port it can't even handle a portable hard drive (needs two for power) etc....

It depends. Will it be your main computer or will it just be a travel computer? How much damage will it face?
If it's going to be your main computer, get the Macbook Pro.
If you need something light, tough, and easy to carry, get the Macbook air with the SSD.
If you just need a simple notebook for travel and it won't get thrown around too much, get a Macbook.
