One of my all time favorites, after playing bass for 30 plus years, then putting it down for a number of years I got a new axe, this was one of the first songs I "attempted" to jam along with as we always played this song. The rust showed in my playing as I tried to keep up...lol, But, now a while later I am able to run with it....Toy Caldwell was such a great guitarist....this song kicks ass, nuff said.
This is an awesome clip. Seeing Toy and Tommy and George doing what they did best. And Charlie Daniels is the icing on the cake. Sad that the boys are lost :(
I saw MTB at the Capitol Center in Maryland outside of D.C. with Charlie Daniels and Wet Willie...best concert I have ever been to... they all played their sets and then got up on stage together and played for another hour or more...MTB's harmonizing vocals live are still unsurpassed...they were the precursor for so many of the present day Country acts...way way ahead of their time.....
Hot diggity Dawg, tap deem toes, jangle that gear shift spur and snap deem fingers. If ya don,t watchin, this band live ya must be dead or just plumb dumb !
Ich liebe ganz besonders die Versionen mit Charlie Daniels. Schon in den 70er´n bin ich besonders auf 24 Hours abgefahren und bin nun glücklich, dass ich das ganze auch mal sehen kann. Dem Internet sei Dank!!
I believe so. It might even be around the album era that this was released on. the gray cover of an old man drawn. Or just from another time charlie played with them.
Buckshot's probably got it about right, maybe slightly earlier. The 'gray cover' album is 'Where We All Belong', a double-LP with one studio disc and one live disc; the studio cuts were recorded at Capricorn in Macon '74, presumably the live cuts around late '73 or '74. The instrumental transitions on this 9-min version are a bit rough; for me, MTB 'mastered' their live version of this awesome song with the blistering 13-min version, as heard on 'Where We All Belong' and 'Stompin' Room Only'.
These guys were Southern Rock WAY before it was cool...three lead guitars, Toy and Ty Caldwell, Jerry Eubanks singing with Charlie FREAKIN Daniels showing up to wail on his fiddle... these guys were tight and under-appreciated..I'm from the North, but as the C.D.B. said, "be proud you're a Rebel, cause the South's gonna do it again!"
Awesome! Thanks for posting this video. I live in Spartanburg, SC, we all(including the local rock stations) refer to The Marshall Tucker Band as "The Home team" This great footage, thanks for sharing.
in the 70'si was hith hiking out west. in eastern new mexico i was picked up by some sheep guy's. i rode about 100 miles in the back of their pickup with their dogs. this song was playing in my mind the whole way. not a cloud in the sky. temp in the 70's, late spring.
one of the best s__ stompin, kick a__ southern fried country rockers ever in my mind. To me it ranks up there with Free Bird and Hide Tides and Green Grass. I love M.T. aways have and always will.
I like Tommy Caldwell (the band's bassist and front man from 1973 until the time of his death in a JEEP) Bi IMO they really found a gem in 'Thunder-Thumb' Toy! His vocals were so strong and fumm of emotion the only flaw is there were not more..then vocal issues (operation needed) and then tp pass on WAY to soon. These were gread days for honest suthern and other music..I would give my left nut 4 a time machine
Great video, saw MTB 7 or 8 times in the early and late 70's, Though the new mtb has been around longer than these guys were together, The new band with Doug can't wear these guys cowboy hats. Nice try trying to keep the dream alive doug.
This IS the MTB. Love it!
