No. It was on the streets of Salvador city center (Pelourinho) - kind of a parade headed by Olodum, and I just happened to be there so I followed the parade. At the end, the ladies just started to dance and form a circle. watch my other video on youtube... i pretty much taped the whole thing. I didn't even know who Olodum was at the time... Cool place. Cool people.

More often than not it will be a cultural show where one see this. It is also performed in some night clubs. Rarely at certain street feastivals one can see it done more impromtu by the people celebrating.

This is Samba de Roda it a secular dance that draws much from the bantu candomble originally but, then later as many secular dances do started taking on other mostly african cultural elements. There are versions of it done by Capoeira groups as well. It is VERY rare to see spontaniously performed in Brasil.
